Newbie here, who'd like to join the thread. 😊i started IF today, and am hoping the group support and accountability will help. I'm easing into 16:8 and am starting with 12:12 (minimum) fasting for the first few days, or longer if I'm not too hungry. I plan to extend it gradually over the next week/10 days. I'm trying to make it as easy as possible, so have eaten fairly normally today. I plan to cut right down on the fattening stuff, rather than cutting it out entirely. Last time I successfully did 16:8 I found to my amazement that I didn't crave the junk like I normally do, somehow it just happened as part of the process. I've had a few health scares in the last couple of months, and it's made me realise that I really need to address my diet. I'm now at the age where I can't get away with eating as I have been for much longer.

I'd ideally like to lose 2 1/2,stone to get back to my last "happy" weight. I've set a first goal of losing 9 pounds to get to the lower stone mark. I consistently lost 3 pounds a week last time, but now I'm post meno I know it's probably not going to fall off me that quickly this time! I'll be happy with 1 1/2 lb a week, that should be doable.

greengreyblue · 12/02/2025 07:04

Welcome @OnDaysLikeThese . Gone a bit quiet lately on here but hopefully you’ll find the accountability helps. I use it to log what I’ve eaten and keep track of fasts. It also helps to see others having similar struggles and then success. I’m post meno too and I’ve been pleased to lose over 7 months, slowly but steadily. I have only skipped breakfast and mostly eaten as I normally do. I didn’t have so much to lose- 10st 6 to 9st 6. I started in June/ July and made it to 9st 5 on Christmas Eve. The last few pounds were slow but I haven starved or massively gone without either. I’m now around 9st 8 ( last week) so trying to get back down to just below target to have some wiggle room. Good luck.

24 hour fast went well, had a bowl of beef and beans chilli, with rice and avocado as OMAD at about 5pm. I find I fill up so quickly after a long fast so it was also fairly easy doing OMAD and not eating later on.

Feeling hungry this morning, but gonna fast until lunch so that'll be 18-19 hour fast.

Weighed in at exactly 62kg, which is 9.8 stone. Would like to get back to my lowest last year which was 60kg or 9.4 stone. Slow and steady again though - but hopefully will be at TW for spring/summer.

lechatnoir · 12/02/2025 14:24

Well done @jumpintheline and welcome @OnDaysLikeThese. It takes a bit of getting used to not having breakfast (I assume that's the plan) but once you're in a routine it's actually not too bad especially as I've realised my morning eating was purely out of habit rather than hunger.

17 hours today (if you ignore the 2 x white coffees needed after a ridiculously late night). Lunch was sautéed mushroom, courgette and onion with scrambled eggs which I'm hoping will keep me going as we're out for dinner tonight. It's a curry which I'm fine with (chicken dish and dahl - avoid the naan bread!) and will be a bit later than I'd like but have a clear day wfh tomorrow so aiming to still fit in a 16 hour fast.

jumpintheline · 12/02/2025 14:32

Yes agreed on the habit thing. I am totally used to not having breakfast now - it feels quite odd when I do occasionally have it. I feel like my digestive system / metabolism has adjusted to it.

Every now and then I see some health influencer type videos on instagram saying one thing you should NEVER do is skip breakfast!!! In a slightly alarming way, but then I remind myself that actually fasting has got proven health benefits.

greengreyblue · 12/02/2025 18:18

Yes I don’t even question it now and that’s after 53 years of eating breakfast! More time in the morning is great plus I feel sharp. No tummy rumbles until around 11 and then I know I’m eating at 12 so it’s not an issue. Plus I have never enjoyed my lunches more!
18 hr fast today
lunch: mixed salad incl peppers, cucumber, tomatoes, mixed leaves, avocado, sunflower seeds, crumbled feta and some red grapes. An apple.
dinner: 2 skinless, roasted chicken thighs, bulgar wheat and some roasted veg.and a dollop of yoghurt. A satsuma.

OP posts:
jumpintheline · 12/02/2025 19:50

Ha yes I enjoy lunch like never before too!

GameOfJones · 12/02/2025 20:15

Welcome @OnDaysLikeThese, I started with 12:12 too.

23 hour fast for me today but then a very unhealthy OMAD of bacon baguette, crisps and a G&T! I must eat a piece of fruit shortly and then I'll start the fasting clock again.

greengreyblue · 13/02/2025 17:41

18 hr fast
lunch: salad with leftover bulgur wheat and chicken. An apple
dinner: chilli with rice, guacamole, yoghurt and a satsuma

Only managed 15 hour fast, had some sourdough toast in a cafe at 1130! Couldn’t resist.

DH is doing this steak with butter beans dish tonight. Will have some vino too.

I am up 1lb after doing absolutely nothing different! It goes like that sometimes doesn’t it? Hopefully will be back to usual after a day or so.

I have the week off work and no real plans. Will be sticking to 18:6 and maybe a few OMAD days thrown in if I go out for lunch. Think might be heading to Spitalfields market with DS so will probs get some yummy street food.

Not eaten yet but will be 18 hour fast and having spinach and chorizo omelette for lunch. For dinner DH js making beef stroganoff that I will have with a small portion of rice.

greengreyblue · 16/02/2025 20:31

I was up again on Saturday @Rollergirl11 . I haven’t been so active . Long dog walks in the dark are not so appealing so she’s been getting 20 mins twice a day- she’s getting on now anyway.
Went to London today to see my DD. Did OMAD and broke fast at 3pm so 21 hrs. Had a lovely roast chicken in the pub and a few wines. Fasting clock started at 6pm.

OP posts:
greengreyblue · 20/02/2025 20:22

Back from a few days away. I managed to fast until 2pm each day as we were so busy and then ate out late so fasting started at 8.30/9pm. Did over 20,000 steps a day and had a great time. I was 61.5kg on the morning we left but I'm not weighing for a few days so I can level out again

OP posts:
jumpintheline · 20/02/2025 22:24

Sounds like a lovely break @greengreyblue

In my usual fasting rhythm here, haven’t been weighing as much but also been quite relaxed in my eating window, so have no idea if I’m losing or not! Really want to get back to 60kg so need to refocus really.

greengreyblue · 21/02/2025 07:02

You and me both @jumpintheline!

Hi all, checking back in as I really want to get back on track with my eating choices. I've been keeping up the fasting, managing 16 to 18 hours most days but food choices haven't been great and my weight loss has really stalled. With better weather this week I want a concerted effort before summer.

Today:

18 hour fast

L - M&S superfood salad with added walnuts and pumpkin seeds.

D - chilli con carne bowl topped with sour cream and spring onion.

S - peanut butter pretzel bites and some grapes

GameOfJones · 04/03/2025 14:29

Today - 17 hour fast

L - cous cous with roasted veg, goats cheese, pumpkin seeds, walnuts plus a latte

D - two pancakes with bacon

S - protein shake and some peanut pretzel bites

jumpintheline · 04/03/2025 20:09

Well done getting back on it @GameOfJones

I’m still sticking to my fasting but I don’t feel like I’m losing at the mo. Hopefully am not gaining!

All this sunshine is motivating me though - nice reminder that spring then summer will follow.

greengreyblue · 05/03/2025 06:52

Oh hi you two. I’m still keeping on with fasting. I’m 61.3kg at last weigh and quite content with that . I do intend to shift that last kilogram and know I probably need to ramp up my activity and cut the alcohol out at weekends. My food is good and always fast 17/18/19 hrs so that’s the only thing I can adjust. I don’t want to eat much less as I’m very aware of the need to get my 5+ a day and eat a wide range of foods .
Yesterday 18 hr fast
lunch: salad with chickpeas, loads of veg, crumbled feta, seeds, an apple. Lots of water, green tea .
dinner: lasagne with salad, blueberries with Greek yoghurt.

Rollergirl11 · 05/03/2025 18:29

Hi everyone, hope all is well. Not too much to report here. Still pretty much doing 18:6 with the odd OMAD/24 hour fast thrown in if I’m eating out. Have consistently weighed 9st 5 for the last 8 weeks or so and I think that is where my body has settled. I’m cool with that. I don’t feel like I need to lose anymore and I don’t really want to cut back on anything else either. So will just keep going with 18:6 to maintain the weight that I’m at.

SW: 10st 9
TW: 9st 7
CW: 9st 5

I have also dropped a dress size and have gone from 12 (pushing 14) to 10 (sometimes 12). Other benefits are that I feel alert with much more energy. I also think my acid reflux has greatly reduced. I have gone from taking my medication every other day to as and when needed which is like once a week or so. So I really do think that this will be my WOE now for the foreseeable.

greengreyblue · 06/03/2025 22:16

That’s great @Rollergirl11
