I don’t tend to do that but I think it’s really healthy that you’re recognising a pattern in yourself and reassessing if this way of eating is a fit for you. If it’s triggering unhealthy habits, perhaps it’s not the best. Or maybe it’s just you’re under the weather. Have a rethink when you’re feeling better maybe ?

Edited

Good advice, I will give it some thought.

Cashew1 · 24/01/2025 17:55

17 hour (ish) fast
L: polenta, tomatoes, sweet potato and cottage cheese (leftovers)
D: will be roasted veg and tofu curry with rice

A gentle gym as certainly getting a cold.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 24/01/2025 22:16

I've not had a good day! I decided I was going to have a day off fasting cos it was The Traitors final and we also had a power cut so I ended up eating loads all day and evening 🙈😳

18.5 hour fast

But then I had:
Lunch- ham sandwich, crisps, grapes, solero ice lolly (freezer power cut!)
Snack- more crisps and some tablet
Dinner- homemade pesto & choc Magnum ice lolly (freezer power cut!)
Traitors snacks- more crisps and 5 Toblerone truffles 🙈

But hey I've been fasting since the new year so I'm ok with one day off. Back in the game tomorrow!

And what a Traitors final too!

pearldiamond · 24/01/2025 23:13

Sounds delicious!

I managed a 16.5hr fast. I was so hungry by the end of it! Broke it with a chicken salad plus one bite sized brownie. Chicken en route with baby potatoes and veg for tea. Also managed to watch the Traitors without snacking!

I weighed myself yesterday and after being stuck at 11st 9 for a while, the scales said 11st 5!! I mean I'll take it as a win, but 4lb down in one day!? Not sure how that happened Confused

Still necking the 0% gin and tonic though! Must buy slimline....

greengreyblue · 25/01/2025 08:16

Well done @pearldiamond ! I love a Solero @Ilikeyoursleeves ! Damn that storm eh!
I ended up having one glass of white wine last night and I felt very sleepy so didn’t have another.
Weighed again this morning and I’m down to target once more of 60.5! 🥳 Let’s see if I can stay there this time. Got a party tonight - will stay true with fast and food but there will be a few G&Ts no doubt but hopefully offset with a boogie. 🕺🏻

OP posts:
jumpintheline · 25/01/2025 08:22

thats brilliant @greengreyblue well done getting back to target. Enjoy your night!

I’m dipped slightly y under 62.5kg to 62.3kg so it’s very slight loss but the right direction. Am in the second half of.my cycle now so will be retaining more water.

DH made burgers last night - with cheese and bacon, so good. But had salad with it instead of chips / carbs. Had one paloma cocktail and a small glass of wine.

enjoyed the Traitors final! What am I gonna do without it??

greengreyblue · 25/01/2025 08:55

You can do it @jumpintheline! it’s frustrating but what I’m learning is that your body tries to maintain a weight if you’re not technically overweight but if you keep on it will relent and drop it. Podcasts with Dr Jason Fung talk about this- it’s the body’s survival mechanism.

Re Traitors, I haven’t watched but did hear The Apprentice is coming up in that slot and that always gives me a laugh!

Rollergirl11 · 25/01/2025 09:04

Congrats on the losses @greengreyblue , @pearldiamond and @jumpintheline.

I have maintained all week at my lowest weight of 9st 5 so hoping I will stay at that now. I think a week of early starts at work and being extra busy has helped me to keep it off. My tummy was rumbling really loudly in an exam yesterday morning though which was very embarrassing. That hasn’t happened since I’ve been fasting and can only assume being on the go earlier had an impact on my hunger. I managed to hold out for lunch at the usual time.

Hope you enjoy your party tonight @greengreyblue.

greengreyblue · 25/01/2025 09:11

That’s great @Rollergirl11 hopefully it will stick now My tummy has been noisy when breaking my fast at work, it’s pretty quiet before that. Is it swishy party this weekend?

Hi All ,
Lovely news on so many losses. Well done on sticking to your goals everyone who has done.

Interesting what you've written about how the body tries to stick to an even balance as a safety mechanism @greengreyblue . This week has felt like that so me. And I've really needed to channel my thoughts so's not to get lost in negative talk and give up.

This morning I'm finally seeing the kilos shift down after a week of staying the same ! It's lovely that my efforts have finally been recognised by my scales!

Hope you enjoy your Saturday everyone. I'm still 16/8 ing today. I'm less confident about holding on today because I'm in my own and not at work... Another learning curve eh ...

SeekingTreasures · 25/01/2025 10:46

"Thank you and well done with the loss. I do think I struggle with a binge and restrict cycle, anyone else? I'm worried about this diet long term for me because of that." @Cashew1

Thanks for bringing this up. I have been thinking about what you've written and I don't want to mess up my long term relationship with food and my body either. It's intricate, I think.

À big thing that is making a difference to me right now is that I'm very cautious about eating sugar and carbs. Because I'm eating very few at the moment, it's having a big effect on my blood sugar levels . They are not giving me highs and lows. That means I'm not getting the powerful mind-numbing cravings that I used to do when I was eating lots of carbs in the past.

This is helping me not to find myself with sensations of extreme hunger. I get a bit hungry and want to eat because I like eating. But, I can manage those feelings easier than in the past and I'm pretty sure that it's because my blood sugar is not giving me highs and lows.

See what you think...

jumpintheline · 25/01/2025 12:17

Interesting discussion, reading with interest.

for me, I like the way fasting has reset my relationship with food and my appetite. I can sit with hunger now whereas I would give into it and see it as a need to fix straight away before. I also appreciate the food I eat more.

also caught this item on radio 4 yesterday on food and exercise. They talk about your body having a “set point” it tries to maintain depending on how much energy is being spent. Sooooooo interesting and many things I didn’t know before about your metabolism and how it works.

jumpintheline · 25/01/2025 12:19

Don’t think that attached - it was a screenshot of the BBC podcast I mentioned. It’s the latest episode of the Food Programme - Food and Exercise: A Puzzle

SeekingTreasures · 25/01/2025 13:40

Ooh ! Thanks for that @jumpintheline . I'll listen to that asap. I think it's great to understand the science behind this.

At the moment, I'm checking in to see if I'm hungry because I'm going to be ending my fast soon. It's doable right now.

I'm going to go to the shops and have a cuppa when I'm back. That should keep me going.

Did you manage to read The Glucose Goddess stuff I posted before. Interesting tv series about it too. Sugary snacks cause a dip 2 hours later so you crave more. She says if you want a sweet thing, have it after lunch or dinner when your blood sugars are higher anyway. Eat savoury snacks if you need to eat between meals- a boiled egg, some nuts .

OP posts:
greengreyblue · 25/01/2025 15:20

19.5 hr fast today as went somewhere to collect an eBay purchase and didn’t get to pub to eat lunch until later . Shared a ploughman’s platter with DH.

OP posts:
SeekingTreasures · 25/01/2025 16:29

@greengreyblue Yes I did look at the hacks from the Glucose Godess. Thanks a lot! Smile

It's very interesting to be living the experience. I've broken my fast with something savoury and a warm drink. It's amazing that I've not been feeling starving!

I'm wondering if the roller coaster glucose journey might be a big factor behind binging...

greengreyblue · 25/01/2025 16:32

I think it must be. I find iif I eat the staffroom chocolate I want more. If I don’t, I’m fine. In the TV series she gets people who are trying to lose weight to wear a glucose monitor and keep a diary and you can see the graph of their blood sugar highs followed by the crash where they reach for more sugar. When they switch to savoury and healthy, protein rich meals their blood sugar spikes are shallower and their cravings disappear.

This is really logical when you think about it. But, so fascinating too. And, another story for me to integrate it - both in mind and ( maybe even more so) in body !

Ilikeyoursleeves · 25/01/2025 18:02

After my Traitors binge last night today has been better...

15 hour fast

Lunch- 3 fish fingers, beans and slice of toast
Snack- tangerine and a mini size packet of buttons
Dinner- chicken cacciatore & garlic bread, 2 Xmas chocs.

The timer is ON and I am not going near the crisps tonight!

Ilikeyoursleeves · 25/01/2025 18:07

Interesting discussions re sugar highs and lows and hunger etc. I've really noticed on the days when I don't have carbs at lunch (eg a Greek salad or something) I'm not hungry for ages. It's rare for me NOT to have carbs as my lunch is usually a sandwich or something.

I'm also reading the book 'ultra processed people' which is quite fascinating, has anyone read that? It really puts me off some UPF's (ultra processed foods) and want to reduce them.

(After I finish the Xmas chocs though 😳🤣)

greengreyblue · 26/01/2025 11:45

Enjoyed the party, several Proseccos were drunk. Broke my fast earlier today as didn’t really eat a meal after my late lunch yesterday as I wasn’t hungry . Had a pick at a few party snacks.. So at 11iam today had a poached egg on sourdough toast with a smashed half an avocado.
