Well done back at you @Tunneltiger !

830 calories yesterday and 350g down today.

DP has joined me in the diet. I actually find it harder now that’s he’s doing it, rather than when he was eating normally in front of me. He’s finding it tougher and keeps going on about how hungry he is! But my BMR is about 1200 and his is 1700 so he’s running at a much higher deficit than me. But the weight is falling off him so he’s happy to stick with it for now.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/01/2023 16:30

DH lasted 10 compliant days before he cracked and is now eating the same meals but adding toast in between. He's still eating less than he was, though - he refused to weigh himself so he hasn't got the impetus of watching the numbers coming down.

PhoenixMama · 19/01/2023 20:01

I posted this morning but it hasn't shown up - weird!

So far this week I've been up 2lbs and then down 2lb but hasn't really changed since last Friday which is bloody depressing lol

Definitely in proper ketosis - macros all low. Wondering if it's because I'm so stressed (work and life are insane right now) and so there's a LOT of cortisol in my body right now? Praying for a swish lol!

@QuiltedBear I think I would find it harder if someone else was doing it too - I can just think about me and everyone else can do their own thing & I don't need to worry about them lol. SOmeone else moaning about their lack of losses at me might drive me over the edge!

Tunneltiger · 20/01/2023 11:12

Morning!
Back from 4 days in London living off protein pots from M&S although the smell of toast in the lobby every morning was challenging. As a result 2lbs down.
@QuiltedBear DH has also joined me on this journey and like @TooExtraImmatureCheddar 's DH he is adding in his own snacks in between and infuriatingly losing more than me. He isn't however having a beer in the evening before dinner, which was always a clarion call for me to have a glass of wine and that was always the start of the great unravelling. So I can put up with his extra munching. I am planning to do a few months with no alcohol until I get to where I want to be and he is onboard with that.
@PhoenixMama I am in awe of your macros so surely your swish is on the way. May it be a large one.

PhoenixMama · 20/01/2023 11:23

Morning! So what a rollercoaster of a week - down 2 up 2 and down 2 so overall down 2lbs from last week.

QuiltedBear · 20/01/2023 13:33

@Tunneltiger and @TooExtraImmatureCheddar DP cracked last night and had two scrambled eggs while we watched The Apprentice. Today he is down 550g.

Meanwhile I stuck to my plan of 770 calories and only lost 250g.

Well, I should say “only” as I would be perfectly happy with that number without the comparison.

Also he has more to lose and a higher BMR, so of course he should be seeing greater losses.

Well done on the net loss @PhoenixMama

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/01/2023 15:50

Bloody men. I have a horrible feeling that once I settle into this it will be 2lb a week and no more. I’m only 5’2” so my BMR is low.

Going round to my sister’s tonight and have briefed her on food, but I will have a drink or two. I’m hoping that drinking once a week or less won’t have a huge impact!

Addidas · 20/01/2023 17:03

Hi everyone
mice been struggling to get my head I right place but I think it’s there! I’m only 7 pounds way from target but it’s literally taking my forever as I keep going off plan. Anyway today has been a good day.

eggs crème fraiche avacado
chicken feta from keto 800
almond milk in lots of coffee

comes in at 800 and 10g carbs and I’m feeling satisfied

tmrw I have a lunch at Wagama but I’m choosing prawn starter and miso soup and I’ll have to explain my diet!

willthatbeall · 22/01/2023 21:13

Hi all. I'm reading the blood sugar diet book with a view of getting started.

  • has any one used a meal box w that is compatible with it? I have a couple of busy weeks coming up and would love a hello fresh type thing
  • is the fast 800 online the same as blood sugar diet online?

Thanks all
I'm doing this for health first and foremost!

QuiltedBear · 23/01/2023 08:45

Welcome @willthatbeall . I’m afraid I can’t help with either of your questions but wishing you good luck with the program.

Saturday morning marked the end of my third week, and I had lost a whopping 5.6kg (12 pounds)! The weekend was not the best, however (how could it be with Chinese New Year on Sunday?) and I’m up 750g since then.

Time to knuckle down and hopefully turn this around again.

I’ve made the mushroom and vegetable biryani to take to work for lunches this week. It looks very carb heavy to me now. 250g rice total, which is only 50g per portion, but each portion is 19g of carbs. It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on my losses this week.

willthatbeall · 23/01/2023 09:18

Thanks @QuiltedBear
I'm also a little confused between the Blood Sugar diet and Fast800
I have both books - they seem essentially the same programme.

I found the books a bit disappointing in that I need a bit more guidance eg: are frozen cherries ok with my yoghurt or are they a 'tropical fruit', also coconut milk is this ok? I notice recipes have coconut flour in them is that low GI compared with usual white flour?
I need a list of low GI foods and I'd hoped the book would guide me more on ingredients I can use.

PhoenixMama · 23/01/2023 09:28

Morning!

I had a crazy weekend with meals out and take aways and house guests so it's a miracle I'm only up 1.5lbs. Happy with that really! Onwards this week!

@willthatbeall I'll try to answer your questions... yes BSD and Fast 800 are essentially the same plan, I think originally the plan was designed to help support people with diabetes and they realised everyone did well on 800. Yes coconut flour is low GI (basically anything that isn't a grain is), no cherries aren't tropical fruit lol But really if you're really worried about those sorts of things I'd be making sure I used something like My Fitness Plan which can properly track the nutrition and macros of what you eat so you know more details.

With the food boxes I think someone said Gusto have a low carb option - I haven't tried it myself but it's on my list of things to look into as I have a couple of crazy weeks next month.

Tunneltiger · 23/01/2023 10:36

Morning all!

Well done @PhoenixMama for reigning in your weekend gains to 1.5lbs - that will soon disappear. Hello and welcome @willthatbeall I think the BSD was the earliest iteration of this diet based on research into diabetes 2 prevention. The fast 800 and keto versions are refinements. I use recipes from the BSD particularly the caulicheese.
I am disappointingly up 1.2lbs static on the scales this morning but did some strength training over the weekend and hoping it might be DOMS as I was as GOOD AS GOLD all weekend and it seems horribly unfair. On the plus side I am down 15lbs overall in 3 weeks and have lost 4 inches from waist and 2 inches from bust. Hips stubbornly the same.
Today I am having sardines and roasted peppers from the book. Bought a jar to do chicken feta which was I thought was delish, what did you think @Addidas ? - and also a chestnut and mushroom pilau with cauliflower rice. Bit high on the carbs at 48g altogether but I was a keto princess all last week and where did that get me? Meh!

Anewagain · 24/01/2023 07:15

End of week 4 for me today and I have lost 18.25lbs. I can see the difference and I feel so much better. Lots more to go but so glad to be well on my way.

willthatbeall · 24/01/2023 08:21

Some amazing results and thanks for the help.
What's the situation with oats? The BSD book suggests some are ok but I dont see them on fast800.
I like to take an overnight oats as brunch to work. I've always used 0% fat yoghurt before so adding a fat yoghurt is a change for me. I naturally only have two meals a day as I struggle with early breakfast.

Also, if I buy recipe books is one better than the other? Or get both Fast800 or Fast800 easy?

My brunch bowl of oats fruit and yoghurt is 258 so I have about 550 for dinner. Thinking of inventing a Thai green curry with cod and veg meal. Full fat or light coconut milk?

Tunneltiger · 24/01/2023 10:15

Morning!
That is a fantastic loss @Anewagain . It is great to see big results in a short space of time. I have lots to lose too but am feeling very motivated.
@willthatbeall the books I use most are the Fast 800 and now the Keto book. I occasionally use the BSD book as there are some faves in there but although I have the easy book I haven't really taken to it.
Today I am out and about so a cottage cheese Waldorf for lunch and something proteiny with cauliflower rice for dinner. The merest whisker of a loss this morning is heartening. Good luck today everyone!

PhoenixMama · 24/01/2023 10:25

Morning! Back to my last week weight which I'm really happy with after my weekend. Determined to lose 2lbs this week so I can say a stone in 4 weeks!

Well done @Anewagain - That's a brilliant loss!

@willthatbeall Oats are ok in small amounts I think what you need to get used to is looking at your macros - cals, carbs, protein, etc. Also the fat in the yoghurt will make you feel fuller longer which def helps when you're only having 2 meals a day! I have most of the cookbooks and the 2 I love are the BSD and the Keto one. There are recipes in the BSD one that I made even when I wasn't strictly following the diet as they've become family favourites!

I'm doing the feta sundried tomato chicken tonight lol - my daughter has requested it every week since we had it!

Anewagain · 24/01/2023 14:44

Thanks all, it’s great to hear how everyone’s getting on. I think you and I have lost very similar @Tunneltiger.

I’m cooking the chickpea patties tonight. I can’t get them looking as presentable as they do in the book though - they tend to fall apart on me.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/01/2023 14:56

Oats are ok - the Fast 800 recipe book has porridge and overnight oats in it.

I spiralled into a bad hungover place over Saturday (bacon roll then takeaway, ahem), but have been back on it since Sun. Yesterday I made the easy chicken tagine and doubled it, so dinner tonight is sorted. I’m still 1.5lb up but hopefully that’ll be gone tomorrow. Lunch today was a Pret rye New Yorker roll because I was in a mad rush to catch a bus and needed something that I could eat without cutlery on a moving bus. It was 401 calories so ought to be ok.

@QuiltedBear I made the mushroom biryani last week and wasn’t v impressed - the veg went a bit mushy and it was all a bit bland.

PhoenixMama · 24/01/2023 17:46

I fell off the wagon today. I'm so tired that I've been mindlessly eating. Then chocolate happened. Oh well. Tomorrow is a new day...

Anewagain · 24/01/2023 20:41

Tomorrow is a new day @PhoenixMama - onwards and downwards!

I’m watching ‘how to keep a healthy weight’ with Michael Moseley on Channel 4. It’s a follow up to the programme where the participants lost a stone in 3 weeks. I’ve just started but can tell it’s going to be helpful. I’ve lost weight before and I’ve lost weight on Fast 800 before but I’ve never kept on track afterward - and I can see I’m going to need to pay more attention long term this time if I want to keep it off.

willthatbeall · 25/01/2023 18:56

So I've done a sort of audit of meals and many are plan friendly with small tweaks. Portion size will be the issue. How do I 'know' how much mince (bolognese with veg) to have with my cauliflower rice for example?

PhoenixMama · 25/01/2023 22:27

God I’m struggling this week. And everyone around me is struggling so loads of alcohol, chocolate and carbs around every corner. My housemate is the WORST influence!!! I dread the scale for the next few days!

@willthatbeall Are you measuring/weighing your food? I found that tracking for the first weeks was helpful/terrifying when I realised what my normal portions counted up to. If you don’t want to do that then I think the standard recommendation is that a piece of protein should be the size of your palm (not including fingers) and a portion of carbs is the size of a tight fist. I think when you break down the Fast800 cookbook recipes for example a portion of meat is usually around 125g.

I’m eating out on Friday lunch again and then also Saturday night but next week is pretty quiet so hoping I can hunker down.

Tunneltiger · 26/01/2023 09:06

Morning!
Bit carby here recently so cutting back today with tandoori chicken and salad and possibly OMAD.
@PhoenixMama sorry to hear it's a struggle this week - life gets in the way. Your posts are very informative and motivating so keep it up!
I think you are right about our similar losses @Anewagain and I meant to reply after an earlier post that I think we have similar to lose!

@willthatbeall I struggled with portion sizes so weighed everything at first, then I got used to how many serving spoons were involved, now I can judge by eye (I hope!).

Breaking out the bike today after 3 months of hibernation to go shopping instead of using car. It's electric so not that much of an improvement exercise wise but I feel very smug virtuous on it. Go me!
Good luck today everyone!

willthatbeall · 26/01/2023 16:49

So the bolognese I had with cauliflower rice and was lovely. My husband cooked it while I was at work so I couldn't weigh raw so would you weigh the cooked amount I put on my plate?
It's quite confusing!
Perhaps I'm over thinking about it as it's the carbs I likely overeat on rather than the meat.
