@MistySkiesAreGone Oooh I wondered how the shakes are - any good?

Well done @Addidas!

Closing the kitchen at 940cals & 28g of carbs. Protein was lower today at 49g & I’ve been starving all day + period arrived with a bang. Early night tonight I think!

Anewagain · 05/01/2023 21:04

9 days in and I’m feeling very unwell today with a headache etc. wondering if it might be keto flu or perhaps I just haven’t drunk enough water…?

Tunneltiger · 06/01/2023 09:21

Morning all. Day 5 and another whoosh brings me to 10lbs down - hugely motivating but I have a good bit to lose. Feeling much brighter today after 4 days of fuzzy brain and fatigue. Hasn't helped that all the work tasks I left undone over Christmas have now become super urgent and I can't remember my thought processes from last year. Like starting a new job.......
@PhoenixMama thanks for the suggestion - I have found a bacon and brie frittata recipe - going to try that today for supper and cottage cheese Waldorf for lunch (in addition to Christmas cheeseboard, am trying to use up Christmas nut bowl).
Good luck today everyone!

QuiltedBear · 06/01/2023 10:38

Congratulations @Tunneltiger - that’s fantastic progress.

803 calories yesterday, and a 200g loss this morning. I’m now 50g off 60kg! Fingers crossed I’ll have made it by tomorrow - I haven’t weighed under 60kg since March 2021.

PhoenixMama · 06/01/2023 10:45

Morning all! Well done @Tunneltiger that's a great loss!

@Anewagain 9 days in is very late for Keto flu so might be water, might be an actual bug? How much water are you drinking - I find I need to drink around 4L/day (definitely no less than 3L) on this way of eating or my body just doesn't function properly!

Friday's my official weigh-in day so even though it hasn't been a week yet
I took my measurements - I'm down 7lbs/half a stone in 5 days (which I'm thrilled about) and in total have lost 3 inches, including a whole inch off my hips, and body fat is down 1.7%. And keto sticks showing I'm properly in ketosis now which means I just have to stay here lol.

Still not feeling 100% but that could be down to a bunch of different things so am going to be gentle with myself this weekend. Usually when ketosis hits I feel like a fog has lifted and I don't feel like that yet but hopefully soon!

Anewagain · 06/01/2023 13:11

Amazing work @Tunneltiger @PhoenixMama - great results. Hope you get to 60kg soon @QuiltedBear

@PhoenixMama
I think I may have overdone it on coffee and tea while working from home so it was likely too much caffeine as well as lack of water. Trying to do better today and keeping doing.
Day 10 and -9.25lbs total today. Wish I’d taken measurements too.

Addidas · 06/01/2023 17:04

Closing on 900 and 60 carbs
feeling full today. It’s day 4 for me. Got a low key weekend so be able to stick to plan. Will weigh in on Monday hopefully back to pre Xmas weight!

PhoenixMama · 06/01/2023 21:23

Closing the kitchen slightly over today at 1080 but 23g carbs, 82g protein.

Will see the damage tomorrow lol. I’ve got a pretty lazy weekend so hopefully that will help staying on track.

QuiltedBear · 07/01/2023 07:22

804 calories yesterday, and down another 200g to 59.75kg! First time I have been under 60 kilograms since March 2021.

I’ve now done one week on the programme, and have lost 3.25kg or 7 pounds.

I have to say, it’s been a lot easier than I expected. I do feel hungry, but haven’t been headachey, shakey, nauseated (my usual hunger reaction) since day 1. I’m guessing that’s the low carb element helping to stabilise my blood sugars, and honestly makes it feel worth doing for that alone.

I've also managed to kick my one a day full fat Coca Cola habit which I thought I’d struggle with much more.

Looking at Nutra check, my averages for the last week have been:

Calories: 810
Fat: 46g
Carbs: 60g
Fibre: 16g
Protein: 37g

I’d really like to up the fibre and protein. I’ve been getting more than five portions of fruit and veg a day, so I think it would be hard eat more fibre on this calorie allowance. And I’ve been mostly eating vegetarian (had one meal with tuna this week) so of course that will make the protein harder.

I’ve ordered some Purition sample sachets and will give those a go next week, maybe replacing breakfast or lunch.

Best of luck to everyone else over the weekend!

PhoenixMama · 07/01/2023 11:08

Well done @QuiltedBear !

I’m down another 1.4lb today for 8.4lb loss this week so far which is great.

Waking up everyday with a headache though which is really annoying. I’m drinking so much water so I’m not quite sure what exactly it is? It’s really not fair to feel like you have a hangover with zero booze or sugar!

Out tonight for the first time since starting (a play rather than dinner) but I’m still used to doing it with wine, crisps, sweets, etc. I’m thinking of taking 30g of cheese in a little bag with me so I’m not starving & give in!

QuiltedBear · 07/01/2023 12:17

@PhoenixMama - congratulations on the great loss!

And your idea with the cheese is inspired.

I’m having my first meal out. Doing the food shop after DS’s gymnastics class so we’re at the Tesco cafe. I’ve opted for a kid’s meal with fish fingers, veg sticks, and carrot and swede mash (looked like the lowest carb option next to chunky chips and garlic bread). 240 calories all in - really appreciate the itemised calorie listing on the menu!

PhoenixMama · 08/01/2023 12:05

Morning all - still feeling fragile - really hoping it's something else other than keto flu cause this is going on forever. Bit down this morning - I think I had a bit of a reality check as to how bad my diet was last year. My daughter bought some sweets for a party today and there was a mini pack of love hearts so I thought oooh I might like that - looked it up and there were 30g of carbs in EIGHT love hearts. I would normally have had a couple of packs so clearly that is why I've gained so much weight over the last 2 years! I had 4 of them and a J20 last night and it's taken me down a level of ketosis. Just a lot to take in and think about how I'm going to manage some sort of balance in the coming year with the combination of how busy I'm going to be but also this year is the most important year of my career probably ever and I need to focus and I don't want to spend it hating every photo. Ugh. Maybe I'll go back to bed lol.

QuiltedBear · 08/01/2023 13:02

@PhoenixMama Sorry to hear you’re feeling down today. In the summary you did for me a few days ago, you said the plan called for no more than three weeks at the highest level of keto. Could you maybe plot out in your calendar blocks of three weeks when you have no social commitments and go hard at it those weeks, and then stick to the 3:4 pattern the rest of the time?

It depends how much of a social butterfly you are though!

QuiltedBear · 08/01/2023 13:35

I found yesterday tough too. Ending up cracking and having a snack of 100g Greek yogurt around 3pm.

Ended the day on 862 calories and a 100g loss this morning.

QuiltedBear · 09/01/2023 09:17

Had a much better day yesterday, and finished on 770 calories. But this morning I was up by 150g 😭.

I’m hoping it’s down to PMT. I had a really bad night’s sleep and insomnia is also a common symptom for me, so fingers crossed it’s just water retention and will go again next week.

PhoenixMama · 09/01/2023 12:26

Morning all! @QuiltedBear I feel your pain. Up by 0.4 of a lb this morning which is annoying but I'm quite bunged up so this and my cycle probably have something to do with it - better than usual and when I go crazy at least.

I was starving yesterday and I think it's related to the fact that I had some straight carbs and the knock on effect was I wanted MORE carbs - definitely interesting learning for me. I don't get cravings like that from protein (although protein is definitely less fun and sweet!)

Having to tweak my meal plan slightly which always makes me feel weirdly unsettled lol. But the bircher muesli today for lunch and dinner is Korean chicken. I've got some extra cals left and some bacon in the fridge so probably have a couple rashers as well to get my protein up. Hopefully happy scales tomorrow!

Tunneltiger · 09/01/2023 16:06

Scales can be traitorous friends @QuiltedBear and @PhoenixMama in my experience and not to be trusted in the short term. My approach is only to believe them when they show a loss - always true and accurate.
I managed to get through the weekend without popping any corks despite having steak for dinner on Saturday which was screaming for red wine. As a result the keto stick is a pleasing deep pink this morning and I have slept like a baby for two nights.
Today a handful of walnuts for lunch due to lack of time and imagination and bacon and brie frittata with salad later on. Good luck everyone!

Addidas · 10/01/2023 07:44

Still got 2 of my holiday weight lingering. Been doing 60ish carbs which is too high but massively cutting back this week to 15-20 so hopefully get it off and more. I’m so sick of teetering around 11 stone al year!

QuiltedBear · 10/01/2023 08:57

@Tunneltiger I love your method of weight recording. Unfortunately we’ve got those scales that automatically send your weight to your phone, so I can’t discriminate. Even if I have my phone turned off it records the weight and adds it the next time I weigh!

@Addidas I’m averaging around 60g carbs a day too, but hard to see how I can cut it without also affecting my fibre intake (which already feels pitifully low). I’m still trying to get my five-a-day (or more) but that does up the carbs.

My period started this morning, a couple of days earlier than predicted. I’m now 150g down on yesterday or 50g down on Sunday. So things have moved in the right direction again.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days. Early period is usually when I’m afflicted by low blood sugar crashes and scoff chocolate to self medicate. I want to know whether the diet helps my blood sugars to stabilise.

Addidas · 10/01/2023 10:11

@QuiltedBear yes hard to keep fibre. I’m upping green veg and cutting out fruit just for this week so I get a motivating drop. I’ve been up and down around this weight so long I just need to get firmly into the 10s before a big bday celebration coming up!

today eggs and smoked salmon and brolley
dinner is brocolli soup from keto book - tasty but def recommend half the amount of ginger!!

Tunneltiger · 10/01/2023 10:18

Another ½ lb down today and an astonishing 5 inches from my waist measurement! Maybe I did it wrong the first time, but I'm taking it.

@QuiltedBear for extra fibre you could try konjac supplements in capsules before meals. Helps with hunger and is supposed to absorb carbs too. Can't do the konjac noodles personally because of initial fishy smell but I do use the capsule form.
Today going with Bresaola parmesan and rocket for lunch and salmon traybake later.

PhoenixMama · 10/01/2023 12:46

Morning! @Tunneltiger your scale comment made me laugh out loud - thank you!

Down another lb this morning so that's good & going in the right direction.

Made the Korean chicken bowl from the Keto book last night and everyone loved it & dd asked for seconds so that's a keeper!

I'm getting my fibre from green veg which has been pretty good (and keeps my carbs down!) definitely helps but I couldn't do 5 a day on low carb for sure!

I made it through a milestone last night - I saw a guy I'm seeing at his place for a catch up and just drank water and didn't snack as I'd already eaten - AND didn't feel like I should just to be nice so that feels like a significant win!

Addidas · 10/01/2023 20:14

969 and 29g carbs. Weirdly peckish and think the soup just doesn’t fill me as realises my protein is only 45…need to up that tmrw
will weigh tmrw and hope I’m down!

PhoenixMama · 11/01/2023 09:39

Closed the kitchen yesterday at 724 (without realising it!) and only 6g of carbs - 64g of protein which is probably why I wasn't starving lol.

Down another 1.2lb this morning - now only 19.4lbs to my goal weight which feels really doable over the next 2 months.

My moods are definitely all over the place & I don't feel as resilient to stress but a friend pointed out to me that it normally feels like that for a month until you kind've get used to thinking about food differently which makes sense!

Tunneltiger · 11/01/2023 11:33

That's a very impressive macro @PhoenixMama. I can't seem to get my carbs below 25g even though I have no bread spuds rice etc. I am feeling great mood wise and energy wise but my feet and hands are really cold!
Today having cottage cheese Waldorf and Goan prawn curry from the book. Good luck all.
