Quick question from me, how many calories are you all having a day if you're tracking?

ZubinB · 21/01/2022 16:12

I'm aiming for 1,000-1,400 per day, not too difficult being as I'm technically skipping breakfast and not drinking booze at the moment...

FreeButtonBee · 21/01/2022 17:59

I am not counting calories at all. I just can't. I never have and I think I would actually go insane if I tried. I am also a very pinch of this/handle of that cook so it would be super annoying. But at a guess it's not much under 1800 a day. I am definitely aiming for the fasting to do the work not the calorie level!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 21/01/2022 19:24

@FreeButtonBee

Hello I’ve been lurking since NY but finally getting on board with posting. I am currently 12st3.5, have lost 6 lbs since 3rd January doing IF.

I mostly do 16:8 but try to throw in a few 18/19 hour fasts if I can. Weekends are generally o ku 12/13 at most.

I was feeling my best ever just before Covid struck - in a place where I was exercising regularly and happy with my weight. It all went to shit over the past two years so am starting out again.

I find this WOE relatively easy to manage. If I eat breakfast it starts me on a path of eating all day - much easier to delay for me than deny.

I am eating ‘normally’ in my eating window - but aiming for decent food rather than junk. So proper whole meal seeded bread and veg fillled soups for lunch with a bit of cheese or scrambled eggs. Then one snack (might be fruit, might be chocolate) then normal dinner of pasta/chilli/roast but again concentrated on good quality meat/fish and lots of veg. I don’t like tea or coffee or sweeteners so fizzy water is my go to drink all day. I haven’t quite managed to switch off Friday night wine though.

Hoping to get just below 11st (5’3”) and see where I am. I have always weighed ‘heavy’ I must have bones of steel or something as even the top end of the healthy BMI would be very light for me. At 11ish stone 2 years ago I was prancing around in a bikini in Ibiza with not a sign of cellulite.

You've inspired me to delurk as well, we sound remarkably similar!
  • weight this morning; 12 3.5 stone
  • lost since Jan 3rd: 5.4lb
  • height: 5f 2
Also run "heavy" - I can wear a size 10 at 10 stone and look really guant at 9 stone...

Found the first 7-10 days really easy, doing 12-8 or 1-9.

Then the next 4-5 days: OMG, I wanted to knaw my arm off!

Settled down the last few days and seem to be getting into more of a rhythm now.

Not being extreme (I've done keto and LCHF before but hard to maintain and fit in around family life.

I do use some of the principles though eg I'll have some pasta and courgette, or cauliflower rice instead of rice. A nutritionist told me to focus on getting around 90g protein per day - have found some nice protein yoghurts etc.

twinkydink · 22/01/2022 08:19

Good morning everyone!

Weighed in with a 0.2lbs loss which considering I have felt so heavy all week and started my period yesterday I I pretty happy.

3 weeks of consistent IF and it's really starting to become become habit.

Welcome to all the new posters its great to have you here and add to the accountability! @TheWayOfTheWorld you've reminded me of the cauliflower rice I have in my freezer.

I am calorie counting and aiming for around 1500 but haven't been overly strict at calorie counting this week so it feels good to get a result without it.

Starting weight (1st Jan) 13st 9
Current weight 13st 1.4
21 days IF

Have a great weekend everyone!

ZubinB · 22/01/2022 08:39

well done @twinkydink! That's super impressive especially given it coincides with your period. I'm always so much heavier around that time!

Sunshineandflipflops · 22/01/2022 18:28

I’m not calorie counting as I wanted to get away from the obsessiveness of it and any other ‘counting’. I would guess I am eating roughly 1400 a day though as not really snacking or drinking any alcohol and am being mindful when I do eat.

Having said that, I went out for a pub lunch today and really enjoyed a pie and chips in my window. It was preceded by a 3 mile walk and followed by another 3 mile walk though and only had weetabix and a banana other then that so not feeling too guilty.

FreeButtonBee · 22/01/2022 22:40

Having the day off 😄 too much wine last night and opened my eating window with prawn cocktail crisps! Will try to get back to a proper 12/13 hour fast tomorrow and then properly on it on Monday

On the exercise front I can do a hard core spin class fasted if it’s first thing in the morning but doing something right at the end of the fasting period is more of a struggle.

twinkydink · 23/01/2022 07:16

I hope to one day move away from the calorie counting but I know I was massively underestimating how much I was eating and was in complete denial. Although saying that I haven't counted the last 2 days and I'm fairly sure I'm still around the 1500 mark.

@FreeButtonBee I'm the same, exercise in the morning or not at all for me!

@Sunshineandflipflops no need to feed any guilt for that! The pub lunch sound lovely Smile

Planning a lovely roast to break today's fast, have a great Sunday everyone!

twinkydink · 23/01/2022 12:42

I've started listening to the gin Stephens podcasts where she talks to people who have been successful with IF. They are really easy listens and helped keep me motivated during todays food shop. I'm going to have a look at her books shortly I think!

FreeButtonBee · 24/01/2022 09:40

Hungry this morning I must admit. But nothing that I can’t handle. I also find doing batch cooking when I’m hungry helps displace the feeelings of wanting to eat. Slightly weird but it seems to give me the comfort factor. I sometimes use it to push out the last 20-30 mins to lunchtime by prepping dinner or making a soup for the freezer.

That and my soda stream for home made limitless sparkling water are getting me through! Son is home I’ll today so no spin class which is a bit a young but might try to squeeze one in one evening

RealHousewifeOfPontypandy · 24/01/2022 10:19

Gosh aren't weekends at home harder than fasting at work in the week!!

Thanks for the comments re cal counting, I am roughly counting them, trying to keep to around 1400 which is easier as not drinking much at the weekends but means I can still have a bit of chocolate if need be.

Not even been a week for me so all a bit new but I feel like its easier to stick to than other diets for m, due to family and three children, means I can eat dinner as usual with them without having to make anything separate. My aim at the moment is just for the numbers to go down when i step on those scales.

Sunshineandflipflops · 24/01/2022 10:44

I’ve just been for a run and listened to a couple of Gin Stephens IF stories podcasts (thanks for the recommendation above).

What struck me is that the two I listened to, their eating window is 4 hours, so they do 20:4. I struggle enough with a 16 hour fast so not sure I could go down to that!

Having said that, I just did a 5 mile fasted run and although I usually have a 10-6 window, running usually suppresses my appetite so I haven’t opened my window yet. Might try and go through to lunch time.

SydneyCarton · 24/01/2022 12:26

Did a fasted run this morning and managed a PB on a Strava segment which is short but uphill, plus a 3rd best effort on a longer steeper section, so pretty chuffed with that. I had my last proper "meal" at 6.30 pm last night, which according to my app means I could break my fast at 10.30 this morning, but I had a cup of tea and a bit of chocolate at 9.30 pm so technically should go through to 1.30... Might split the difference and have a cup of tea now but not have any actual food until 1.30

Still haven't weighed in, and not really sure why. Clothes feel looser (especially my coat, which is weird as it's not something which is really supposed to fit tightly, but it was definitely pulling a bit before Christmas), but no idea how much I have actually lost.

ChinOfThanos · 24/01/2022 22:09

Am finding I'm quite full even though I'm trying to snack less in my eating window.
Need to drink more water in my fasting window but I usually drink squash so water tastes so bland in comparison 😩

TheWayOfTheWorld · 25/01/2022 15:35

I use LoseIt to track my cals (a bit like MFP but with more features) - one feature is it tells you what your good eating habits are.

One of my "good habits" is eating chocolate Grin

Apparently my overall calorie intake is lower on days I have choc.

twinkydink · 25/01/2022 15:40

@TheWayOfTheWorld thats so interesting, I may have to look at that! I'm doing a week without calorie counting, just focusing on my window so will be interesting to see what any losses look like!

FreeButtonBee · 25/01/2022 20:32

I too had a tiny bit of appetite correction this evening had lamb and salad and pitta for dinner. And I left a quarter of my pitta because I realised I didn’t want it. I am normally a gannet so that was a proper moment.

Made it though to 12pm today easily but had a late-ish dinner tonight so will only be 16 hour fast tomorrow. Might get to 17 hrs if I get distracted by work. I might weigh in tomorrow - trying to limit it to twice a week and focus on the fasting windows mostly

Sunshineandflipflops · 26/01/2022 07:54

Hi all - I bought the gin Stephens 'Delay Don't Deny' book yesterday and have read about half of it (really interesting). I don't weigh at all (don't even have working scales) but she said that if you are weighing yourself then you should do it daily and take your average weekly weight as comparison, not a same day every week weight. You are more likely to see a downward trend that way.

I am gradually trying to reduce my eating window from 8 hours to 5/6 so skipping breakfast entirely (which I thought I could never do but it gets easier) and going until 1/2 pm.

I'm going for a run this morning, which always helps to curb my appetite for a while!

ChinOfThanos · 26/01/2022 09:18

First week weigh in and have a 3lb loss. Need to lose 1.5 stone to get into healthy range, 2 drone would be ideal.
Bit deflated but one step at a time and all that. And it's only been a week! Why do we always want immediate results?!!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 26/01/2022 11:20

3lbs is brilliant! I need to knock off a couple of stone and am 5lb down after 3 weeks (hoping a bit more once period kicks in and goes away again).

I'm pretty happy with that As I'm trying to be more balanced about things this time

so this month I've had afternoon tea, brunch out, a takeaway but fitted those into my window/not gone mad with other food during that window.

Feeling rather hungry today though (period related I think, it's due to arrive at any time).

twinkydink · 26/01/2022 16:34

@ChinOfThanos 3lbs is amazing! You should definitely be proud of that.

I'm just about to order that one @Sunshineandflipflops so glad to hear you've found it interesting. I'm really enjoying her podcasts so I think I will like the book too.

swampytiggaa · 26/01/2022 18:56

Been back on IF since 1/1. Weight is a bit up and down but the trend is down. I had less than a stone to lose so I’m more than happy with my progress 😊

After seven days of going ok I had a complete wobble last night, Fasting window was fine but then had a crazy craving for chocolate so had some at nine then felt sooo hungry so had a bit of cereal. Did have a headache in the day so not sure if that was after a week of reduced sugar. Trying to keep fast til one today and I know it's only one day but a bit disappointed. Drinking water is the hard thing when fasting as I drink squash usually
Onwards and upwards 😬😄

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/01/2022 09:11

@ChinOfThanos you are not a machine! There's always going to be some wobbles, don't be so hard on yourself.

I track my fasts with Zero and can see that out of the 25 days I've been doing this, I've lasted less than 16 hours 4 times (13-15 hours). It's not the end of the world, just keep at it Smile
