Well done @Piglet89 currently cooking up our roast for when the kids get back from the park and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it!

ZubinB · 10/01/2022 07:55

Ah, I have been doing this since last Tuesday - so weigh-in day tomorrow - am dreading it! My window is 11-7 but I am having tea and soya milk before 11 - absolutely no way I am giving that up at the moment! I'm also sticking to 1,200 calories; I have 1.5 stone to lose. Good luck everyone!!

anungratefulwretch · 10/01/2022 08:49

Oh well my optimism has deflated a wee bit this morning as I have put back 1.4 lbs and had appalling indigestion last night after eating too much chocolate in my eating window Grin. I ended up having to get out of bed at midnight and have a cup of peppermint tea and some liquorice before I could sleep. So that's broken my overnight fast which is a pain, but I'll try and stretch today's out a bit to get the benefit.

good luck today everyone!

Sunshineandflipflops · 10/01/2022 10:56

@anungratefulwretch how often are you weighing yourself?
I don’t use scales as they have too much impact on how I feel about myself but day 10 today and I think I am feeling a bit less bloated. I also managed a 5 mile fasted run this morning and wasn’t even desperate for my breakfast when I got in but had it for the refuelling.
Meeting a friend for lunch so looking forward to that.

SydneyCarton · 10/01/2022 14:35

After complaining about tiredness on a fasted run I had almost the opposite problem yesterday as we had a McDonalds lunch, and my quarter-pounder was still weighing very heavily on me when I went out. Can't win!

I ended up starting last night's fast early (about 7.15 pm) as I went to bed with DS and fell asleep with him, although we had a rough night and he was up and down a lot. The Simple app told me I could end the fast at 11.15 am, but I went through to 1.50, albeit with a couple of cups of tea. Have bought some instant coffee to try and get to grips with drinking it black - I'm not even that fond of it with milk and sugar, but the green/mint tea just isn't cutting it.

anungratefulwretch · 10/01/2022 15:26

@Sunshineandflipflops I weigh every day but it's more out of curiosity than anything else. Despite my previous post, I don't really mind seeing the odd upward fluctuation as I know it's normal. As long as the long-term trend is down that's the main thing!

Still fasting, will probably break it at 5pm now as that's when my last work meeting finishes, and close my window a bit later.

SydneyCarton · 12/01/2022 11:41

Two hours to go until my second clean fast ends - nothing but water and black coffee so far today, and until 1 pm yesterday. The black coffee is....OK. I'm on an IF Facebook group, and a poster there said something along the lines of "I'm never going to love it, but if I see it as a tool to help with the fasting I can manage it", which seems good to me. I'm having two cups in the fasting window for that caffeine boost and to give me some energy.

Did a fasted run yesterday, fuelled by the coffee, and it was much better than before, though not sure if that's the coffee or just me getting used to running on an empty tank.

Bad night yesterday as children just wouldn't stay in bed, so I did fall into the crisps and wine as soon as they had finally gone down. Nothing horrendous though, and not feeling heavy or sluggish today.

anungratefulwretch · 12/01/2022 12:14

Well done @SydneyCarton!

The black coffee gets easier I promise; I used to be a 'cream and hazelnut syrup in coffee' person, now I drink it black out of choice!

All going well here. I'm managing about 18-19 hours every day which feels really good. After my blip at the start of the week, the weight is dropping and I feel lighter and more energetic. In fact, I'm actually finding that I don't want the 'bad' stuff now! There are still a lot of Xmas chocolates etc hanging around the house, so last night I just had a couple of chocs after supper in my eating window and then quite happily stopped. Usually I'd have been picking at the box all night. Win!

twinkydink · 12/01/2022 12:35

I was so sceptical of IF before I started and thought there was no way it would work for me, but 2 weeks in and I easily make it from 7pm till midday before I break my fast. I dont drink hot drinks so I guess I do a clean fast?

I did a run today, only 30 mins but fasted and I felt good so definitely want to incorporate running more into this lifestyle change. That's a lot easier to say when thr sun is shining though!!

@SydneyCarton could you suggest the Facebook group? I would love to join!

That certainly a win @anungratefulwretch
I am doing similar. I've bought a box of malteaers and having a handful each night with some Greek yoghurt. Feels like a treat to end the day!

SydneyCarton · 12/01/2022 14:41

Thanks @anungratefulwretch! It's definitely an acquired taste - drinking it too hot burns my mouth, but if it gets too tepid it seems to be even more bitter, so I have about a 10 minute window to chug it back. Well done on the chocolate resistance - we still have loads of stuff hanging around which probably won't get finished till almost March, just in time for Easter chocolate....

@twinkydink It's a FB group linked to the fasting tracker app I use, which is called Simple. It is American and you get the odd hyper-enthusiastic poster who fasts 20 hours a day every day and praises God for every pound lost Confused but it's not too bad for support and advice. I have only been a member for a few days though, and a lot of posts are from people complaining about the food logging options the app gives you, or the clean fasters v the dirty fasters (yawn), so I'm not sure how long I'll stick around.

Sunshineandflipflops · 12/01/2022 19:11

I’m on day 12 and doing ok I think.

I can’t get used to black coffee but am enjoying hot water with a slice of lemon in the mornings until 10/11 when I eat.

I close my window at 6/7 pm as I’ve had dinner by then and it’s the evening snacking I needed to lose!

ZubinB · 13/01/2022 05:14

so first weigh in, I've lost 2lbs in my first week! Not bad, but was hoping for 3lbs. Now down to 10:11 but aiming for 9:8.... I have been using Nutracheck to keep any eye on calories. Slightly alarmed by the amount of times my daily sugar count is WAAAAY over. It's mainly fruit sugar, but still - should I try and reduce that a bit too? I was 50g over yesterday for instance!

twinkydink · 13/01/2022 14:19

Well done @ZubinB 2lbs is still a great loss! I'm hoping to be hitting between 1 and 2 a week and I know the big 4lbs of last
Week won't be repeated often!

To be honest i don't know about the sugars. I dont look too kuch at my nutracheck breakdowns - mainly because I can never get anywhere near my protein target! Do you feel that sugar is an issue for you or do you generally eat a lot of fruit? Could you swap one piece of fruit out for a veg? Other more qualified people koght come along soon but for now if you're losing and you're happy I would stay as you are.

SydneyCarton · 13/01/2022 16:11

I agree 2lbs is very good, especially as it doesn't sound like you have much weight to lose. I've not weighed in yet but have set MyFitnessPal to lose 0.5 lb a week - any more than that and I'll starve!

Fasted run today fuelled by black coffee - took a turn on a whim and ended up with a longer route than expected. Had to take a couple of walking breaks to get me up and over hills, but managed just over 4 miles running in total, which I'm pretty chuffed with at the end of a 16-hour fast Smile

twinkydink · 15/01/2022 07:42

Just done my early morning weigh in and down 3.4lbs so 7.4lbs in total.

Starting weight 13st 9
Current weight 13st 1.6

Haven't been quite so strict with tracking calories this week as life has got in the way so very happy to see another decent loss. Its scary to realise just how much I was over eating though 🙃

Hows everyone's weeks been?

ZubinB · 15/01/2022 08:55

congratulations @twinkydink! that's a fantastic loss! this fasting diet is really helping me think about what I actually want to eat - and also how cravings really do pass after a few minutes!

twinkydink · 15/01/2022 11:16

Yes @ZubinB it's completely stopped my mindless morning snacking! I'm still snacking during my eating window but knowing that I'm not eating during that big chunk of a morning makes so much difference!

What day are you weighing in?

dudsville · 15/01/2022 11:34

Hi all, I just wanted to comment as I'm finding your thread helpful. I started the 16:8 a couple of weeks ago and I really love it and hope to live this way from now on. I'm doing 10am-6pm or 10:30 - 6:30pm depending on when I can actually have that first meal on work days.

I love the feeling of hunger in the morning; it's mild and I see it as reassurance that I'm not over eating. The hunger has also eased over this period and isn't intense or preocupying. I look forward to breaking the fast with a delicious breakfast. I don't tend to have sweets so I've nothing to cut out there.

It's my portion sizes that the main problem. I find I'm following my body cues a lot better and am as a result often not eating again until about 3pm and then reducing the amount I'd normally have. I'm not sure how this is going to go in the long run as I feel "safer" having a meal before the wondow closes. I've only had one really hungry night, so it isn't a big problem, but yesterday and I did just eat some plain cheese biscuits (I love these so it is a treat for me) in case I got hungry later. I need to play around with that.

Also, I'd wanted to do dry January but haven't for various reasons. I am enjoying a glass of wine in the 5 - 6/30 window and then having that window close, and that feels good, and it's not daily!

Finally, I'm not weighing in! I started a few changes in mid december and I took my weight then. I'm going to weigh again until at least the end of Jan, but might wait longer. I want to go by how I feel in my body and look in my clothes and then weigh. But I gather I've lost a little as my trousers are fitting differently.

I've gleaned a few tips here and there from you all so I just wanted to thank you. This has been a real eyeopener!

twinkydink · 15/01/2022 12:19

Nice to meet you @dudsville welcome to the thread!

Sounds like you've had a really good start. I wish I could not weigh in but I know I have to.

I think we are all still learning here so we can figure it out together. And everyone has difference vices and different cravings so timings work differently for each of us.

If you had told me 2 weeks ago that I would be comfortably getting to this point in the day without eating I never would have believed them!

Does anyone have any recommendd reading for understanding the benefits of fasting other than weight loss?

ZubinB · 15/01/2022 17:23

@twinkydink weigh in day is Tuesday but I need a sneaky one today and have lost another lb - hopefully I can keep that off until next week. 🤞

I DID a sneaky weigh in I mean. Down to 10:10 🙌

Equimum · 17/01/2022 07:48

Has anyone else not lost any weight in their first week of 16:8? Just weighed myself and am 100g heavier than when I started! I've really stuck to the hours and have mostly eaten carefully during them. Sticking to around 12-1300 calories and no success. I've also been doing at least an hour, and some days, 2 hours of dog walking! Feeing really deflated and wondering what the point is. DH is doing it too, eating far more than me, and has lost 1,5kg!

Sunshineandflipflops · 17/01/2022 10:31

Well down to everyone! I am on day 17 here.

No idea on weight as I don’t use that as a measurement but I am feeling better in myself and that and reducing my blood pressure are my main aims.

I just managed a fasted 5 mile run, followed by breakfast when I got back at 10 and a nice hot bath.

10-6/10.30-6.30 is working well for me as evening snacking was a big issue.

I haven’t drunk alcohol since NYE either-partly because I do dry January every year any way and partly because my eating window closes at 6/6.30 pm so I don’t think anything other than water and mint tea after that anyway!

twinkydink · 18/01/2022 06:58

I've stretched my fast so now it's closer to 18:6 I'm often busy until about midday and I don't want to eat something right before lunch so makes sense to wait until 1ish and break my fast with my lunch.

@Equimum do you have much to lose? If not I think it can always be harder. I was carrying a lot of Xmas weight so the initial loss was higher! Also I think men lose weight easier than women especially at the start - possibly hormone related?

Am due on this week and I feel heavy so not feeling hopeful about any losses! But I I loving the will power that fasting has shown me I have. I was listening to a podcast about how important it is to get sunlight in the mornings and I am really trying to incorporate that into my day.

Aiming to get a peloton ride in at some pojt today as today is my busy day driving people everywhere so I always struggle to get my steps in!

Keep going everyone

twinkydink · 18/01/2022 07:02

I usually start to self sabotage as soon as I stop seeing results so it's going to be a challenge to get over this week! Am hoping see other people's success will keep me motivated!
