@Twinkydink, can you avoid weighing so you don't possibly get information that would undermine your efforts?

ZubinB · 18/01/2022 08:11

Weigh in today and am down to 10:7! I was gobsmacked. That's 6lbs in 2 weeks. I have a chest infection so haven't be eating/on top form for the past few days so think that may have been contributed to the loss. I'm still making sure I only eat in my window and am keeping calories under 1,400. I'm so pleased! Apologies if this comes across as boastful, but I am honestly shocked it is working so well (for now)! XX

twinkydink · 18/01/2022 09:04

I think that might be a good shout for this week @dudsville just focus on my windows and not worry about the scale!

@ZubinB you should be proud of that, its amazing! Hope the chest infection isn't too rough.

ChinOfThanos · 18/01/2022 23:46

Marking place as starting tomorrow. Need to read the thread and add my details Smile

ZubinB · 19/01/2022 07:15

welcome @ChinOfThanos (great name 😆)

how is everyone getting on?

Sunshineandflipflops · 19/01/2022 10:42

@twinkydink This is one of the reasons I don't weigh myself. I don't even have any working scales at home. I know I am eating better and moving more, which has to be good for me. The scales don't necessarily always show this though for various reasons!

@ZubinB That's great - well done! I am certainly feeling my clothes a little looser at this point.

I went to the cinema last night so did have a coffee and share some popcorn with dp outside of my window but I figure this has to fit into my life and the fact is, I don't go to the cinema often and have no intention of never eating popcorn at the cinema again. Back on it today though.

swampytiggaa · 19/01/2022 10:50

Progress so far 😊 I reset happy scale 1/1 so this is weight loss since then. I’ve only got about 4lb to go to my initial target weight so expecting tiny losses going forward 😊

Well done everyone on losses/sts/keeping up with fasting 👍

Day one not too bad, am using MFP to loosely record what I've eaten/plan to eat within my loose calorie allowance. Have done low carb and SW before so will be a combination of the two.

Biggest change will be no snacking once kids are in bed, that's been the problem for me

How many days do people do 16:8 for? I'm planning on keeping to the fasting window strictly but relaxing the calories slightly at weekends if need be.

Also does anyone have tea with a sweetener in their fasting period without any negative effect. I need one cuppa when I get up at least.....

Thanks for the welcome, I have about 15kg to lose to get to perfect weight hut taking it one step at a time, happy to lose anything at this stage!

blodynmawr55 · 19/01/2022 18:20

Can I join?
Have list 4lbs so far since 3rd Jan.
Lost about 3 stone in 2018/19 following fast 800.

blodynmawr55 · 19/01/2022 18:25

blodynmawr55 · 19/01/2022 18:29

Drinks I have during fasting window:

~ Black coffee, no sugar
~ Sparkling water with slice of lemon or lime

On a Friday or Saturday night:
~ Low cal 0 alcohol gin tin from Tesco. Feels like a bit of a treat!

ZubinB · 19/01/2022 18:47

@blodynmawr55 - liking the sound of that Tesco gin tin! No calories and no alcohol??

currently do it every day, weekend I might treat myself to a bit of choc, but only in my 11-7 window. In the week I sometimes do 12-7 if I'm busy and not too hungry. I also have 2 teas with soya milk when I get up - there is no way I can cut those out. NO WAY! 🤣
ChinOfThanos · 19/01/2022 20:01

@ZubinB ooh soya milk, is that better than normal milk?
I'm guessing a bit of a headache and lightheadness is normal in the first few days?

Had a good day but a bit daunted at the prospect I won't eat until midday tomorrow now!

Do people keep the same eating window or they do shift slightly if need be?

SydneyCarton · 19/01/2022 20:12

I give myself a break at the weekend but try not to go overboard. My eating window is usually around 1pm to 9pm as my children are difficult sleepers and I prefer to eat once they’re in bed (I’m typing this as the 3 year old is dozing off on me and the 5 and 7 year olds are arsing about next door Hmm). At the weekend I do 9-9, or maybe 8-8. Learning to cope with black coffee for the morning caffeine hit rather than tea with milk. It’s okay, but I almost always break my fast with a huge mug of PG Tips Grin

ZubinB · 19/01/2022 20:43

I don't think soya milk is healthier, I just prefer the taste! 😆

ChinOfThanos · 19/01/2022 21:25

@SydneyCarton any coffee recommendations or secrets, for a fellow tea addict?

Sunshineandflipflops · 19/01/2022 21:28

I don’t drink anything in my fasting window other than hot water and a slice of lemon/sparkling water/regular water/mint tea.

I would find the morning fasting much easier if I could have a cup of tea! I tried back coffee but couldn’t drink it. Maybe I need to keep trying for that caffeine hit.

Weekends I have been sticking to my fasting but might slightly change my window to start and finish later. I’m not going to beat myself up about the odd day if I don’t stick strictly to 16:8 though as I need this to be sustainable.

Sunshineandflipflops · 19/01/2022 21:31

Also, I have an Apple Watch and have hit all my targets every day so far in January. I’ve walked/run approx 12k steps a day and not had any alcohol either. That’s a better measure for me than weight as I know they are things that will do me good.

SydneyCarton · 19/01/2022 22:03

@ChinOfThanos It’s only my second week of doing black coffee (third week of 16:8), I pretty much just gritted my teeth and gulped it down. I find there’s an optimum window where it’s not so hot that it scalds your mouth and not so tepid that it’s really bitter which is okay, maybe about ten minutes after adding the boiling water to the coffee.

I also read a Facebook post on an IF group which basically said “I’m never going to love it but if I view it as a tool to help with the fasting, then I can do it”, which is my approach. It’s only two cups a day and I do at least like the smell, if not the taste!

twinkydink · 20/01/2022 14:19

Reading all your posts about black coffee makes me really glad I'm not a fan of hot drinks! I can imagine giving up that morning tea is a killer- I would really struggle to give up my afternoon diet coke! But having my fasting window start at 7pm it has stopped me opening another can in the evening!

Someone posted on q Facebook group that they have done 20 days of IF and it made me realise I have too! So even if the scales don't move this week the fact that i have fully committed to something for 20 days feels like a huge win!

FreeButtonBee · 21/01/2022 09:04

Hello I’ve been lurking since NY but finally getting on board with posting. I am currently 12st3.5, have lost 6 lbs since 3rd January doing IF.

I mostly do 16:8 but try to throw in a few 18/19 hour fasts if I can. Weekends are generally o ku 12/13 at most.

I was feeling my best ever just before Covid struck - in a place where I was exercising regularly and happy with my weight. It all went to shit over the past two years so am starting out again.

I find this WOE relatively easy to manage. If I eat breakfast it starts me on a path of eating all day - much easier to delay for me than deny.

I am eating ‘normally’ in my eating window - but aiming for decent food rather than junk. So proper whole meal seeded bread and veg fillled soups for lunch with a bit of cheese or scrambled eggs. Then one snack (might be fruit, might be chocolate) then normal dinner of pasta/chilli/roast but again concentrated on good quality meat/fish and lots of veg. I don’t like tea or coffee or sweeteners so fizzy water is my go to drink all day. I haven’t quite managed to switch off Friday night wine though.

Hoping to get just below 11st (5’3”) and see where I am. I have always weighed ‘heavy’ I must have bones of steel or something as even the top end of the healthy BMI would be very light for me. At 11ish stone 2 years ago I was prancing around in a bikini in Ibiza with not a sign of cellulite.

slaybellsringing · 21/01/2022 09:12

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while but posting for the first time !
Can you have an iron tablet in your fasting hours prior to breakfast ?

SydneyCarton · 21/01/2022 10:42

slaybellsringing I think multivitamins and tablets are OK - MyFitnessPal logs them as zero calorie - but the chewy gummy ones would probably break the fast as they contain sugar and/or gelatine. Also most vitamins/minerals are better consumed with food, though I always take mine first thing in the morning and haven't noticed any difference since I started IF

FreeButtonBee · 21/01/2022 12:42

Nearly to 17 hours today. 18 mins to go and then I will have my lunch. .Either tomato and red pepper soup or a fridge sweepstake to use up a lot of bits and bobs floating about. I am home alone today which helps me push through to a later lunch. I am not ravenous and could probably go further but definitely a tummy rumble going on.

On the exercise front I am trying to build it up gradually. I am doing one really tough spin class a week and then prioritising getting out for a 30 min walk everyday as well. If I can fit in a swim or something else active then well and good but not too worried about that yet. After Feb half term i will look to up the exercise a bit more.
