@ChinOfThanos Even Gin Stephens says that you don't have to be perfect all the time. Life isn't the same every day/week/month and some days we are hungrier than others. Being too restrictive/strict with yourself will only lead to undoing all your work completely.

I have been trying to go as long in the day as possible (before dying of hunger) before opening my eating window, but I met a colleague for a work meeting yesterday later morning and despite my plans to have a mint tea when I got there, she had already bought me my usual cappuccino so I wasn't going to be rude and say I didn't want it.

FreeButtonBee · 28/01/2022 15:09

Covid has hit us so slightly taking my eye off the ball. Still trying to avoid evening snacking but having an earlier breakfast when I feel like it plus medicine when needed obvs. Not doing too bad but no point in making myself miserable when under the weather. See you in a week or so!

twinkydink · 28/01/2022 17:04

@ChinOfThanos go easy on yourself, it's one day and we have all made really big changes in this last month we are due some wobbles! I'm having some prosecco tonight and usually I close my window at 7 but my partner wants a drink and so do i so I'm not going to beat myself up about it or try to make up for it tomorrow. If this is going to work it needs to fit into our lives and sometimes we need that chocolate or that prosecco but I've noticed I need it less. Maybe it's the same for you?

SydneyCarton · 29/01/2022 08:47

Weighed in today for the first time since starting 16:8, and rather disappointed to see I am only one pound lighter than when I last weighed myself in mid-December; 10 st 7 to 10 st 6. But then I realised that Christmas would have meant a gain of at least 2/3 lb (I didn’t go crazy but definitely ate and drank more than I usually would and did less exercise), so my starting weight on 16:8 was probably more like 10 st 9 or even 10, so an actual loss of 3-4 lb over 3 and a half weeks.

Don’t beat yourself up @ChinOfThanos, it’s a marathon, not a sprint! One day won’t undo it all Smile

twinkydink · 29/01/2022 09:43

I've weighed in and another 0.5lbs gone.

Starting weight 13st 9
Current weight 13st 1

So 8lbs gone in January which I'm pretty happy about. I'm considering taking a look at 5:2, but still sticking with my fasting window. I just think I need to lower my carbs on my non exercise days.

Good work @SydneyCarton Christmas definitely needs to be taken into account!

SydneyCarton · 29/01/2022 10:51

Thanks @twinkydink and well done too, 8 lb is amazing, that’s over two pounds a week. I used to do 5:2, and there is a great series of threads here for support. Pre-Covid I worked two days in the office and two at home and I found the office days were great for my 2 fasting days as I wasn’t surrounded by easily accessible food all day! Full time home working rather scuppered it for me but 16:8 is definitely doable.

twinkydink · 03/02/2022 06:31

It's all gone a bit quiet on here hows it going for everyone?

I've been doing what someone suggested and weighing everyday and teacking it on Libra. It's interesting to see the downwards trend and its give me an average loss for the week. For the first time this morning I moved into the 12stone Mark- 12stone 13.8, but it's the first time I've seen 12 on the scales for well over a year!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 03/02/2022 08:37

Plugging away. Lost 4.4lb in Jan (which I used to lose in a week when I did LCHF!) but....

2 inches off my waist, 1.5 off my bust and 0.5 off my hips (always stubborn to come off there) and my clothes definitely feel less tight.

Had another 1.6lb drop over the last couple of days, so 6lbs in total.

Need to remind myself it's about consistency and the long game. If I can do this for the next few months (and it hasn't generally been that hard apart from a few days) I'll be at target! (6 down, 27 to go...).

Sunshineandflipflops · 03/02/2022 09:47

I'm still going ok. Generally trying for a small an eating window as I can manage, without starving myself or it having a negative impact on my life. Most days I generally do 1-6/7pm but other days it's an 8 hour window, depending on what the day looks like and whether I'm eating with my partner or kids.

It's got easier the longer I do it - I couldn't have entertained not eating breakfast at all a few weeks ago or drinking black coffee but am now happily doing both!

No idea on weight loss as don't weigh myself but clothes are definitely looser, which is more important to me.

lu9months · 03/02/2022 21:09

hi ive just started 16:8, but im starving by the end of the fast, and overeating in my window! i need advice on how youve over come this please

twinkydink · 03/02/2022 21:15

I've found it easier to go longer too, think I've almost hit 20 hours a couple of times and had a couple of OMAD.

I think the slow and steady results show this is a lifestyle change and not a fad. I've ordered gin Stephens book so looking forward to getting stuck in to that.

@lu9months no specific advise except I think I just got used to it. I couldn't imagine getting to 1pm with out eating at thr end of December yet here I am happily doing it or longer or most days. First week I would say I was in a very similar position to you but I was then quite quickly able to push back my window to 1pm. But there's no rush, I think lots of advice is to ease you self in. Maybe move to 14:10 if you need to and then gradually push it back from there?

Sunshineandflipflops · 03/02/2022 21:43

@lu9months Same advice really-it gets easier the longer you do it. The first couple of weeks I was desperate to eat by 10am but now I’m 5/6 weeks in I am able to go longer quite easily. I have also made myself drink black coffee, which I didn’t think I liked so that helps a bit in the mornings for a caffeine boost.

twinkydink · 04/02/2022 09:24

I also find it easier on the mornings I'm busy, is there something you could do to distract yourself?

Hello Everyone- reading with interest.

I have lost nearly four stones on the Jenkinson eating plan over the last 18 months and still have another to go.

After a hideous debacle around Christmas ( have almost lost the weight I gained now) I decided to give IF a go too, and combine it with Jenkinson, in the hope it might kick start further weight loss.

I am enjoying it so far ( day 5) as I rarely eat breakfast so am finding it relatively easy. I am finding myself super productive and focussed at the end of the fasting window, which again works for me as I wfh and start work very early.

Portion control has always been my downfall. Much to my surprise I am finding myself already eating smaller portions, and eating less meat too, both of which are good.

I don't want to take it too far though as I don't do well at all with calorie restricted diets - they tend to stall weight loss for me fairly quickly - I love cooking and food generally and calorie restriction is counter productive and a miserable experience.

Even if IF doesn't result in accelerated weight loss, it does so far seem to suit me - as long as it doesn't affect my exercise programme. So far so good on that score.

I use the Fastic app, fast from 630 pm to 1030 am, and am drinking about three litres of water a day, along with my usual gallons of black coffee in the morning.

Apologies for spamming the thread!

Back from my walk. A short one for me of about five miles but with a very steep ascent at the end. Didn't stay out longer as was feeling a bit light headed - in final two hours of fasting.

I think when I know I am going to be out in the hills next day I will try and eat earlier the night before so I can break my fast sooner ( take food with me.)

lu9months · 06/02/2022 09:47

well ive done 1 week of 18:6 and put on 1 pound! im obviously eating too much in my window though im trying not to. i didnt expect to loose anything in a week but didnt expect to gain. ill give it another week or 2 but perhaps this isnt right for me. any advice appreciated!

FreeButtonBee · 06/02/2022 18:08

Hello. Covid kicked my butt for two weeks. I managed to keep fasting for most of that period but zero exercise was a bit of a killer and the last 3-4 days I haven’t managed to fast at all. Not going to weigh until Wednesday or Thursday as don’t want to depress myself. I am back in the office this week so it’s going to be a very weird reversal of life after so long isolating! Need to manage the work biscuit/ temptation situation 😬 which hasn’t been an issue for the past two years.

Words · 06/02/2022 19:54

Hi 9 I am new to this also. What are you eating in your window?

twinkydink · 06/02/2022 21:25

Hi all, I did calorie count my first 2 weeks of trying 16:8 beacsue I was very aware that pre Xmas I was overeating so I really needed to keep an eye on my calories. Could you give it a go to give you an idea of what you are eating? But also 1 week is very early on I would really try not to get too disheartened.

I've just demolished the Gin Stephens books Fast feast repeat and I would really recommend. It breaks down different schedules you could try as well as the science behind fasting.

I'm 5 weeks in and now at 12st 12.8 which is 10.2lbs down from my staring weight on January 1st. I had a big loss the first week but I also had a huge change in calories that week coming from my Christmas calories!

Some people also chose not to weigh themselves could you base how its going on how your clothes fit? Maybe take a selfie and then in a month's time do another one in the same clothes?

twinkydink · 06/02/2022 21:26

@FreeButtonBee be kind to yourself after covid! Take time to recover as it sounds like it was horrible Flowers

Llamasally · 06/02/2022 21:58

I struggle with binge eating if any junk is in the house at all, I want to give this a try as I like the simplicity of ‘kitchen is closed’. Has 16:8 worked for anyone with similar issues? I’m literally always hungry

twinkydink · 07/02/2022 06:29

Yep worked for me, I dont eat before 11 (or 1 most days) and 7pm kitchen is closed. It was just like a switch for me in the evenings. Once I'd mentally shut the kitchen that was that

Sunshineandflipflops · 07/02/2022 11:10

Yes it helps for me to as I am terrible for picking. Once I know my eating window is closed I don’t eat. Simple.

I am also finding my appetite is reduced when I do eat and I’m happy to leave a bit of food if I’m full.

I’ve just done a 5 mile run after 14 hours fasting and it felt good (as good as runs feel 😄).

twinkydink · 07/02/2022 19:38

Well done sunshine!

Which gin Stephens book are you reading? I've been dipping in and out all day and finding it very interesting. Managed a 19 hour fast today after reading it!

Sunshineandflipflops · 08/02/2022 15:12

I read the Delay don't deny book. Very easy to read - thank I finished it in a day!
