Fast800 starting today

Morning! Am starting Fast800 today. Anyone care to join me?
Any tips from those who have done it before?
I’ve only been up 2 hours and all I’ve thought about is food so far! I’m surprised how often I think about it!

@Motivateinmotion

Have spent all night in agony with what I now know is kidney stones. Does anyone know if Fast800 could be linked with them? I’ve been eating over the last 4/5 mostly fish/eggs/spinach/broccoli heavily seasoned with salt. A quick google shows high protein and salt can lead to kidney stones but wondering if it’s coincidence as it’s come on so quickly. Any chance *@BIWI* has come across this?
Oh no, have no advice I’m afraid, but get well soon.

@Greysofa I would run it by GP if I were you. Part of me thinks that if you’ve had your gallbladder removed then you won’t have a problem, but there may be other risks I’m not sure.

Kidney stones take several months and even years to develop so I doubt it had anything to do with diet.
What makes you think they are kidney stones? Do you have a history?
I would call Nh24 and hand a urine sample in to check for infection. Could be really nasty if left without treatment.

Motivateinmotion · 02/01/2021 10:58

Thanks @Dinkydody appreciate the reply. From googling I can see they take a long time to form so thought it could be coincidental but wondered if the heavy reliance on the proteins and salt had sped things up somehow. And reading on how to deter them it recommends eating a diet low in these things which obviously is against what I wanted to do now. I’ve not had them before but once the stomach/side/back pain subsided decided to collect urine in a sterile container and can see a small amount of stones. I don’t know if that’s all there was as the pain is still there so just trying to flush my body with water. Sorry for detailing the thread @Ihateme!

Ihateme · 02/01/2021 11:10

That sounds really painful @Motivateinmotion Sad hope you get well soon

Dinkydody · 02/01/2021 11:47

Some types of stones are caused by infection so if you continue to get pain I would still hand a sample in 😊

BIWI · 02/01/2021 11:52

Ouch @Motivateinmotion! Sounds awful.

I don't know anything about kidney stones, but I can't really see how you would have developed those after such a short time doing the Fast800. It's more likely to reflect the foods that you've been consuming up to this point.

some interesting info here

But I concur with PP that you should talk to your GP about this.

Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Motivateinmotion · 02/01/2021 12:52

Thanks for the messages and link. I will def be consulting my GP on Monday (it’s not so painful now that I need A&E amongst Covid). Hoping to be able to work around it to continue low carb high protein. Hope you all staying strong on plan!

Ihateme · 02/01/2021 13:38

Plan is going well today, I sacked off my 36hr fast after 20 hours as I was too hungry and cold! Just had 400kcals worth of yummy smoked salmon and omelette.

Anyone want to share packed lunch ideas? I am back to work Monday and convenience food for work is one of my downfalls.
I am pescatarian, and work has no microwave. Ideally I want to try to avoid fish and eggs at work as they’re pretty stinky for staff break area... any ideas?! I’m wondering if I’m better off trying to get a meal replacement alternative for lunch time.

Ihateme · 02/01/2021 13:57

Lettuce wraps?! Yum.

BIWI · 02/01/2021 13:58

If you go down the meal replacement route, you could always try the Fast800 shakes? I think they have four different flavours now, and at least two of them are vegan. They're specifically designed to be high protein and low carb, as well as nutritionally balanced.

Ihateme · 02/01/2021 14:11

@BIWI great suggestion. I nearly bought some earlier this week but the reviews aren’t great unfortunately. I could always try one pack, not much to lose really.

Greek salad? Lettuce, cucumber, cherry toms, red onion, feta & olives? My Fast800 meal plan puts this at 267 cals.

DoctorYang · 02/01/2021 14:17

1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
¼ lemon, juice
Sea salt
Black pepper
50 g cherry tomatoes, halved
15 g black pitted olives, halved
½ head baby cos (romaine) lettuce, chopped
¼ cucumber, chopped
¼ red pepper (capsicum), deseeded and chopped
30 g feta cheese
⅛ red onion, sliced

Ihateme · 02/01/2021 14:29

Lovely recipe @DoctorYang thanks!

Have a look at the bootcamp recipes too as they have great ideas including egg/omelette wrap which I’ve made and had cold with a salad wrapped inside so could combine with the Greek salad even.

BIWI · 02/01/2021 15:43

I've tried the chocolate and vanilla ones (not the vegan versions). They have been re-formulated since they were initially launched, and they are much better now. They are a bit of an acquired taste though - mainly, I think, because of the texture - they have flaxseed in them for fibre. I felt that this makes them too gritty to just shake, so I make them up in my hand blender. I also found, initially, that adding 50g raspberries or blueberries helped a bit.

They definitely work though - I was really sceptical that they would keep me going without feeling hungry, but I was very pleasantly surprised!

(BTW - I don't take commission for the Fast800 Wink)

Foundmyfeet · 02/01/2021 22:17

Hey all! So today was my first day at 800kcals but I ate only 500 and drank lots of water. My head is banging so I've come to bed to get an early night. Hoping the headache will be gone by the morning.

@DoctorYang - that salad sounds delicious. I'm going to add that to my meal planner. Thank you!

absolutehush · 03/01/2021 04:37

Starting this Monday. Does anyone know if I can swap the chicken in my meal plan for turkey? I'm doing three meals but need to reclaim a few calls for milk in my coffee!

Dinkydody · 03/01/2021 09:27

Yes, turkey would be a great swap 😊

BIWI · 03/01/2021 10:37

You really need to make sure that you're eating more calories than that, otherwise you won't be getting adequate nutrition.

The headache is caused by lack of electrolytes, especially sodium. You need to cook with salt and add it to your food - a quick fix in the meantime would be a hot drink made from Oxo or Bovril or Marmite. The other electrolytes are potassium and magnesium - good food sources for these are salmon, full fat natural yoghurt, spinach and avocado.

You can also buy electrolyte tablets - High5 make one called Zero which you can buy from their website or from Holland & Barrett or Evans (probably from Amazon too).

You're experiencing carb flu or keto flu - it should only last for a day or two, so don't let it put you off!

Ihateme · 03/01/2021 15:25

I’ll head over to have a look shortly @Motivateinmotion , thanks

@BIWI they sound a bit like Huel - always better in a blender. I have some of it left over but it isn’t low carb. I’ll buy some Fast800 shakes next week if packed lunches don’t work out.

@Foundmyfeet well done on your first day!
@absolutehush good luck for tomorrow :)

I am super proud of myself this afternoon... just resisted the urge to swap my soup for the last mine pie... but I rewarded myself with cheese pieces in my soup. No wonder I’m 7 stone overweight Sad

@Motivateinmotion how are you feeling today? Hope you’re much better.

OP posts:
absolutehush · 03/01/2021 18:05

@Ihateme thank you for the support. I think you're being hard on yourself. It's not about being perfect al the time but about considering our choices and making good ones most of of the time. We all make mistakes!

If no one minds, I'd like to use this thread as a way of keeping honest so will report back in a few days.

Motivateinmotion · 03/01/2021 20:23

@Ihateme I seem to have passed the stone so it has gone as quickly as it came on (luckily!) and so back on track today.

Cheese is most def a great swap over mince pie so no need to be tough on yourself! Like the books say it’s not all down hill expect blips. Besides the odd day off could be like a version of 5:2 but 6:1 with favour to 800cal days. Keep going it will be worth it!
