Morning! Am starting Fast800 today. Anyone care to join me?
Any tips from those who have done it before?
I’ve only been up 2 hours and all I’ve thought about is food so far! I’m surprised how often I think about it!

Ive been fasting for around 16-18 hours and then break fast with a coffee and milk or two- this tends to keep me going for another hour or so and then I have my two meals around 2 and 6. However not sure how it will go once I'm back at work and up earlier etc. I’m currently making a list of things to cook and freeze including soups so have some 200cal meals in case I need to spread things out more guess it’s all trial and error at first.
Don’t punish yourself about the mcd it’s just one meal and get back on now/tomo

Just flicking through the recipe book and seen that greens and non starchy veg can be eaten freely without counting! I’d been including them in my 800 so this is excellent news! Bring on the cabbage/greens/broccoli/salad/courgette/pepeppers!!

Anyone know how long until the hunger subsides? I’ve had 65g of protein so a fair amount but finding I’m so hungry in the evenings to the point it’s hard to get to sleep. Hoping it gets better as the days go on?

Foundmyfeet · 31/12/2020 01:39

Hi all! Can I join? I've just read the Fast800 book from cover to cover in the last couple of hours! Feeling very motivated but realistically, I won't start it until Jan 2nd. I need to lose 4 stones. My DD is 14yo and even though it's not recommended for 18 years and under, she's desperately unhappy with her weight and to be honest she could do with losing a little bit. I want her to do it the healthy way and to learn about healthy eating and looking after your body from the inside out so what better way is there than to lead by example. I'm not sure if she should do the 2 days @ 800 kcal? Maybe just the Mediterranean Diet combined with TRE? And when she returns to school, any advice on what kind of packed lunch I can give her?

Ihateme · 31/12/2020 10:06

@Motivateinmotion I hope your hunger subsides soon. Is it to do with the amount of carbs?? It’s not easy to live on 800kcals while feeling hungry 😞

@Foundmyfeet Please do join us! Hope it goes well for you. If my daughter was asking to do this, my advice to her would be 12:12 or 10:14 and the med diet. I don’t think young people should be restricting their calories as they’re still growing. It’s hard at the moment due to covid restrictions, but could she do more exercise instead of cutting calories? Re lunchbox - I would do bento box style rather than the traditional sandwich/wrap as it’s easier to do it low carb.

I hopped on the scales this morning to find that my Mc Donald’s yesterday has not done any immediate damage, the numbers are the same as yesterday.

I managed to join the website for £62 for 12 weeks, as there is 20% off at the website and also used the money off code inside the recipe book.

If you're keeping your carbs low, and your protein and fat high (at least as high as you can within your 800 calories!) then the hunger should abate after a week or so - it's a natural benefit/result of keeping your blood sugar level.

This is one of the issues I have with the Fast800 though.

Although these vegetables are low in both calories and carbs, they can swiftly add a fair bit to your daily 800 calories, especially if you're 'jazzing them up' with butter, oil, cheese and/or salad dressings. So just be aware of that!

Foundmyfeet · 31/12/2020 10:52

@Ihateme thanks for the advice. Didn't think of a bento box style lunch. This is a great idea. DD and I are going to start jogging in the new year. I find that it really helps with toning and shaping rather than weight loss on the scales. Hopefully combined with Fast800 I will see both! We are also going to give pescatarianism (is that a word?!) a bash too.
I was feeling uncomfortable with restricting DD's calorie intake so think I will just suggest the med diet for her. TBF, I don't think I could deal with additional mood swings from her anyway if she were to be hungry all the time. Teenage hormone mood swings are more than enough!
Glad that your cheeky Maccie D's didn't do any damage! But I knew someone who once did the Maccie D's diet and lost a stone! Basically it was one hamburger a day and lots of water so really she was just starving. Not my kind of diet..

Motivateinmotion · 31/12/2020 12:12

Thanks @BIWI appreciate the responses and look forward to the hunger subsiding soon! Know what you mean about the leafy and nonstarchy veg and won’t be binging on them but knowing an extra spoonful with each meal for a bit extra food won’t do much harm even if a little over the 800 cals. Can I ask what are the major differences between Fast800 and keto? The fat content being higher and carb lower?

BIWI · 31/12/2020 12:21

Fast800 is a sort-of multiple choice approach! It combines fasting with low calorie and low-ish carb eating, and is staged - ultimately, I think, the aim is to move on to a Mediterranean-style diet, possibly combining this with 5:2 (don't test me on that though, it's a while since I've read the book!)

Overall, it's less high in fat than keto and it's higher in carbs. With keto you should keep your carbs below 20g per day I think.

I absolutely agree with you about allowing extra veg making it more palatable, but the issue I have with it is that on the one hand it's supposed to be a very strict diet - 800 calories is very low! - and yet on the other, they say don't worry about the calorie counts of other ingredients. That bit doesn't make much sense to me - you're either strictly low calorie or you're not!

Sorry. Way, way too many exclamation marks in that post Blush

I’m 18 hours into fasting... not on purpose but I wasn’t hungry at midday so thought I’d go with it.
If I last til dinner time, do you reckon I can have an 800kcal feast when my family are having party food?!

JaquelineBeanstalk · 31/12/2020 17:39

Hi folks, I’ve done this before so I know it works. I just need to get my as in gear and stick with it.

Like @biwi, I have many concerns, the not counting veg being only one!

I think my biggest gripe is in the book, where it says no to tropical fruits. But the first recipe pictured is a mango smoothie, and there are other banana recipes.

I also have issues with the quantities and calorie counts in some of the recipes. But in the whole, I’m a fan.

MWNA · 31/12/2020 17:47

I began this yesterday.
I am eating between 10am and 6pm and am doing 800 calories for 12 weeks.
I ate frittata with 3 eggs, red pepper, cherry tomatoes and a scraping of vegan cheese at 10am. That was 378 calories.
I had a carrot at 1pm. 30 calories.
I've just eaten roasted cauliflower, 2 vegetarian Richmond sausages and a very small potato. All roasted together with a bit of season all and garlic and Frylight. 390 calories.
I've tipped over 800 slightly with some coconut milk in a coffee but that's it.
I've drunk 2 litres of water.
Yesterday was similar food.
Feeling great. Smile

@MWNA just be careful here though - the Fast800 isn't just about low calorie, it's also about cutting your carbs down too. Those sausages alone have 11g carbs, never mind adding in the potato! (I know that's not a lot of carbohydrate in the great scheme of things, but just wanted to point out that it's not just about the calories).
BIWI · 31/12/2020 18:15

Oh yes, @JaquelineBeanstalk - the calorie counts are often way out! I bought some of the Fast800 shakes to try - they recommend that you mix them up with almond milk, saying that would only add another 39 calories. That's true is you use Alpro almond milk - but if you were to use Plenish or Innocent (both much higher quality products) then the carb count is significantly higher - Plenish would be 102 calories and Innocent would be 114!

MWNA · 31/12/2020 18:16

Thanks BIWI. How many carbs should I be aiming for in a day?
