Fast800 starting today

Ihateme · 27/12/2020 08:47

Morning! Am starting Fast800 today. Anyone care to join me?
Any tips from those who have done it before?
I’ve only been up 2 hours and all I’ve thought about is food so far! I’m surprised how often I think about it!

They don't set a limit - and they're actually pretty cagey about carbs which is a bit frustrating sometimes! On the Fast800 community (the paid for version) they did finally relent and suggest that your day should be 40% protein, 30% fat and 30% carbs.

In the original recipe book they do give the carb counts, which is helpful, but they don't then show how the recipes break down into the macro percentages, so it's difficult to work out. The only way I could work out to do that was to enter everything that you're eating into something like My Fitness Pal. But it's really dull having to do that for everything you're eating (especially as a lot of the carb and calorie counts can be a bit dubious)

Sorry - I realise that's not especially helpful!

I think if you keep things like pasta, rice, potatoes and bread out of your diet - and avoid most fruits, you'll probably be OK though. I'm guessing from your post that you're either vegan or vegetarian, so your carb counts will always be a little higher than if you were a carnivore.

There are a number of Fast800 groups on Facebook which could be worth joining, as there are a lot of pretty knowledgeable and experienced Fast800 people on there.

MWNA · 31/12/2020 18:31

That's great advice. Thank you.

Motivateinmotion · 31/12/2020 18:50

@BIWI interesting you mention the calories being out as I have been tracking on MFP and actually find a lot of the things are out and with the ‘free’ count of veg could easily be getting up to 1200cals without realising. I’m open and flexible and hoping to get from it a way of life that doesn’t revolve around feeling hungry 24/7 and gorging on carbs.
Do you enter ketosis on fast800? Is that important for longevity?

Motivateinmotion · 31/12/2020 19:31

@BIWI how long have you been low carbing? Are you at goal/maintaining? Does it get easier? Sorry for all the questions it’s just I can see you’re on quite a few threads in the weight loss section and have lots of wisdom on the subject

BIWI · 31/12/2020 20:29

Oh God, I wish I was at goal! Maintaining is the hardest part of any diet.

I've been a (mostly) low carber for probably 15 years now. Not so much from the perspective of weight, although that was the original motivation, but more for the health benefits that it has.

It does get easier, in that certain ways of eating become habitual - I very, very, very rarely even think about cooking/eating pasta, rice or potatoes, for example.

But I'm as guilty as the next woman of indulging/cheating, especially at Christmas!

@Dinkydody

3rdNamechange Next weeks menu and shopping list is already up.😊
Thanks. I'll have a look.
TheWayOfTheWorld · 31/12/2020 22:27

I'm planning on starting this on Monday - I have ballooned this year and feel bloated and horrible, none of my clothes fit and I am mindlessly/emotionally eating for the sake of it.

Is the paid programme worth it? I'm not bothered about shopping lists etc.

Dinkydody · 31/12/2020 22:48

Hi, TheWayOfTheWorld 😊
Depends on what you’re looking for. If you go over to the Fast800 website it will give you all the info you need to make an informed choice including some answers to common questions. If you sign up today though you won’t be starting until a week on Monday.
I like convenience of a menu and shopping list and the accountability. It also takes away a lot of guess work and confusion around fats, carbs etc
Hope that helps 😊

Mrspopper · 01/01/2021 09:07

Morning. I Am starting this is the next couple of days. Am still waiting for the books but will start even if they don’t arrive. Looking forward to it!

DwangelaForever · 01/01/2021 09:17

Fast 800 is great but if you have any history of gallstones or gallbladder issues I'd sack it in. (I speak from experience)

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 01/01/2021 09:20

Hello everyone, can I join you? I did Fast 800 over the lockdown period and lost a good chunk of weight, but I also got obsessed with the numbers a little.

Ive been following a Fast 800 style meal plan since Dec18th, but I've been having some Christmas extras too. From today the extras are gone and the alcohol is out.

This time I'm using the principles but I'm not tracking the calories or weighing myself everyday like I did in the summer. I KNOW I feel better with this WOE, and that's what I want to embrace.

Ihateme · 01/01/2021 10:25

Great to have more people on board! I bought the recipe book yesterday so I’m looking forward to trying some new recipes.

Thanks @Dinkydody - my main issue with anything like this is will power/my mental state, so trying to work out whether the paid programme would assist with that.
Mrspopper · 01/01/2021 11:08

@DwangelaForever I don’t have a gall bladder anymore. Hopefully won’t be a problem. Would you mind sharing your experience?

JaquelineBeanstalk · 01/01/2021 14:55

Just ore ordered the new “ quick and easy” recipe book on Amazon.

I’m using the weekend to clear all temptation foods out if the way, will start in earnest on Monday

Iamhangingin · 01/01/2021 16:06

Hello can I join too? I started the Fast800 on the 30th December so I'm on day three now and I feel awful!! I know it's carb withdrawal + lack of sleep (stayed up for the bells but then woke up at 4.30am)

I have been low carbing on and off for about 10 years and it works really well for me. I started intermittent fasting last year for health rather than weight purposes and it was great, but since covid I now WFH and have found it impossible to stop constantly grazing. I have been feeling crappy, headaches, less energy, poor sleep and I've gained 10lbs so I am hoping to lose that (and a bit more) but also start feeling a bit more focused.

I was sorely tempted to take a day off today and have some wine and crisps but I don't want to undo what I've done so far.

Great to hear from other people and that it does get easier!

HyggeHeart · 01/01/2021 18:24

Hi everyone. How has everyone got on today? I know it was day one for a few (including me) today. I had shatsuka for brunch @ 11 and sesame salmon, brocoli and tomatoes at 5. both of which were blimin lovely. So feeling OK so far, but then again it is only day 1 😂

Ihateme · 01/01/2021 18:51

I did my first 24hr fast today. Surprisingly easy after low carb for the last 5 days. I’m trying a 36 hour fast now so will next eat on Sunday morning. I have some smoked salmon and eggs on stand by in case I get too hungry tomorrow evening!

How long are we meant to go between fasts? I signed up online but the meal plan gives me meals for every single day, so where do the 24 and 36 hour fasts fit in?

DoctorYang · 01/01/2021 19:09

Between meals I meant, sorry.

12:12, 16:8 Or 10:4 I think. I’m extended fasting purely due to personal choice after reading about extended fasting in the Fast800 book (though I had to do my own research, the book doesn’t say that much about it but claims it has benefits)

I just want to give my immune system a boost and lower my BMI as much as possible before next week - am back to work and worried about covid. Wanted to get my BMI under 40 ASAP.

Dinkydody · 01/01/2021 19:18

Don’t worry they don’t! I eat all of my meals inside an 8 hour window between 10 and 6 so fasting for 16 hrs. But anything under 12hrs is great. There is plenty of facts and common questions and answers on the website and check the forums for info on intermittent fasting 😊

Ihateme · 01/01/2021 19:24

I have no idea what I meant by 10:4 😂

Have spent all night in agony with what I now know is kidney stones. Does anyone know if Fast800 could be linked with them? I’ve been eating over the last 4/5 mostly fish/eggs/spinach/broccoli heavily seasoned with salt. A quick google shows high protein and salt can lead to kidney stones but wondering if it’s coincidence as it’s come on so quickly. Any chance @BIWI has come across this?

Can I ask why this is please? I’m going to be starting the fast800 but have previously had my gallbladder removed.
