I think my problem is that I don't see how I am going to transition out of this to maintenance if one cheat meal or cheat day means I regain loads of weight. As much as I will continue a LCHF way of eating once I have reached my target weight, I do wonder if this is getting my body used to a really severe diet and once I start to have the occasional meal with carbs on am I going to balloon again?
I just want to find a sustainable way of eating long term. It does worry me that I might never be able to eat chips or have more that 1000 calories a day ever again....

AlgonquinBay · 08/09/2020 21:52

I know what you mean carbhunter I feel the same about maintenance!

I have had a couple of cheat days though and although the weight loss slowed I did manage to lose overall the same week.

Just trying to get my head around the fact that if I want to stay slim I will never be able to eat and drink the same as I did before!

ThePawtriarchy · 09/09/2020 06:06

I know that the ketone tester sticks are a bit frowned upon, but I’m five weeks in and lost it for one evening last week. It took me four days to get back into ketosis and shift the weight - so makes me think before I indulge my sugar craving.

I’m desperate though, doing this is like holding my breath as long as I can 😩

Cantteach · 09/09/2020 07:24

I've lost another 1lb since yesterday meaning that the scales are showing a new stone as I am now Xst 13lb which is a good mental boost. Still a very long way to go through. Last night we had Quorn Korma (which 2/3 DC ate so that was a good result) with cauliflower rice and coconut wraps.

I'm going to throw my view in on 'cheat' food. We have all been eating portions that were too big or overindulging in 'bad' foods, that's how we got here. This is why it's important to shift your head to this being the new normal now. There's no bad/cheat foods just foods that you should eat a lot/ some/ virtually none of. To keep the weight off we will need to make better choices forever. At the BBQ I had halloumi, burger- no bread, coleslaw, no potato salad, lots of salad. This is how slim people eat, you want to be one, you have to behave like one! DH and I have agreed we'll probably always have cauliflower rice in place of rice now and we don't want evening snacking to return. I'm content having 2 meals a day so while I may have breakfast if we're away somewhere, in general I'm going to stick with TRE.

nibdedibble · 09/09/2020 08:48

I’ve been circling the same two lbs for about a fortnight now. What tips to fire up my system to lose properly again? It’s so frustrating. Going to eat nothing but veg and eggs today :(

TantricTwist · 09/09/2020 09:57

@Patchworksack lol at holding breath, totally agree with you there

@Cantteach definitely agree with changing mindset.

I was slim till I had DC and looking back I regularly had days I ate barely anything because I just didn't think about food or eating. With DC you're focused more on food as you have to feed others and our energy levels change and I got into bad carb habits during my pregnancy due to morning sickness. Excuses excuses I know but nevertheless

Yesterday I went over 800, I wanted a G & T and went to bed with a rumbly tummy which passed quickly and was soon forgotten. I've lost belly fat and all over body fat, I can feel myself shrinking and with no exercise so that's pushing me on despite my waist not seeing the shrinkage much but will hopefully catch up with the rest

TantricTwist · 09/09/2020 12:03

Lots of walking today so far - no breakfast just tea and coffee and lunch was 2 Victoria plums and 20 pistachios - I wonder how long they'll stop the hunger for.

Tonight will be chicken and veg

Solongsugar · 09/09/2020 13:25

@Cantteach is so right! Slim people always have smaller portions. I think I'm going to look at a smaller plate as well as it does feel like you've eaten too much. A few people I know that don't eat breakfast either because they are too busy or too scatty have not passed out or became overweight or long term ill like I was taught. They've been intermittently fasting, unintentionally, but they're slim! I find that some will - some won't admit to being determined not to gain weight and are staunch in refusing snacks, big portions. That has to be me for life now!

Miloarmadillo2 · 09/09/2020 14:29

Is anyone else using recipes from Tom Kerridge dopamine diet? I made the moussaka yesterday and it was lush! It is all carb counted but not calorie counted and he lost 11 stone eating low carb. It focuses on foods containing tyrosine which your body converts to reward chemical dopamine to make you feel good.

carbhunter · 09/09/2020 17:07

Agree with you Tantrictwist about habits changing after dc. I needed caffeine and carbs to get me through the early years!

Trying to change my mindset about food and portion sizes etc, as I want to stop the diet cycle, but maybe I'm just greedy Confused. I can't ever imagine not thinking about food almost constantly. Very unhealthy I know.

TantricTwist · 09/09/2020 18:44

Ate fried sprats tonight, after realising we dont eat enough fish, never made them before and never will again. I really dislike cooking fish. They were very yummy but a big PITA to prepare after deciding to look up online how to prepare them.
My lunch kept me surprisingly full for ages. Counting out my pistachios into a bowl was better than mindlessly eating them all from the pack as I would have done before.

1questionshootout · 09/09/2020 20:12

I love fish, planning salmon with broccoli tomorrow.

TantricTwist · 09/09/2020 22:09

I like fish too I just hate cooking it and having it in the fridge, frozen I'm ok with.

It's irrational but true.

And @1questionshootout I really wish I'd gone for the salmon instead today. It was a toss up between the 2. My plan was to dip the sprats whole into flour and fry.

But the man online said to gut them because there is still poo in their intestines etc and to chop their heads off first. I genuinely felt like a fisherman on a trawler or the crazy guy from Texas Chainsaw masacre in my kitchen, heads and gut everywhere ( I have an active imagination but it really was like that with around 30 to get through).

Purpleraindeer · 10/09/2020 06:30

Hi all! I’ve had a few days of steady losses (I’m a daily weigherBlush) so I’m feeling positive.
I love fish. What I don’t love is the portions are normally so small, except for when you can only have 800cals and now they’re perfect. It’s sea bass and cauli rice for tea in our house tonight Smile

My plan was to do 800cals for 2 weeks and then decide from there. I’m not sure what I will do - I like the woe and the fasting so want to find a way to continue that in some form. I do need to stop the cal counting and weighing as I have a tendency to get obsessive and it’s not good for me. Maybe 5:2? I am still finding 16 hr fasts very difficult. 800 Cals is plenty but OMG the mornings are hard.

Glad you’re all well!

Miloarmadillo2 · 10/09/2020 08:31

My weight starts with an 8 (8st13.5lb, but still!) I haven't been below 9 stone since my twenties.... And my body fat has dropped to 30.6%. Meditteranean chicken tray bake with broccoli and mange tout last night, think we will do Greek salad for lunch and fish for dinner.

TantricTwist · 10/09/2020 09:23

More fish it is then Smile
I do make an excellent fish pie using frozen fish. I'll have to cover some of it with mash swede.

I'll get over myself and cook more fresh fish. I'll order some on my next shop.

The reason I'm a bit weird with Fish is because I choked on a large salmon fish bone when I was young and my DM had to stick her hand down my throat to yank it out - it was quite stuck.

I was under 800 yesterday and didn't get any hunger pangs, carbs were 67 though.

Only had tea so far today will have coffee in a bit. Yogurt and berries for lunch. Dinner chicken and veg maybe.

Why oh why do apples have to have such a high carb content- I love them so much esp at the moment as they are so crisp, tangy and fresh.

AlgonquinBay · 10/09/2020 09:27

Well done miloarmadillo2 - getting back into the 8s is a dream of mine!!

Had a scale victory myself this morning - total of 9kgs/19lbs lost now so I'm thrilled and still motivated to continue. Not really sure what my target weight should be now though? My original plan does not seem like it will be enough.

Have mushroom stroganoff with cauli rice planned for dinner. Not sure what's for lunch yet, probably something with eggs.

Miloarmadillo2 · 10/09/2020 10:12

I don't really know what to do with fresh fish other than salmon in a foil parcel. I eat quite a lot of tinned tuna and mackerel, and frozen fish pieces - I like the Youngs Gastro fish fillets. Wouldn't know where to start at a fishmongers....

Miloarmadillo2 · 10/09/2020 10:13

Well done algoquin 9kg is fantastic!

carbhunter · 10/09/2020 10:41

I love fish but my usual fish pie is topped with cheesy mash or puff pastry. What would people recommend as the best low carb topping? Swede/celeriac? Anything else?
Had Tuna and salad last night. Just pan fried the tuna but it was delicious and very satisfying.

TantricTwist · 10/09/2020 10:47

@AlgonquinBay that's excellent well done.

I guess you just have to do what suits you best and works @Purpleraindeer Maybe now you know what food items work for you give yourself that break for a week without weighing and see how it goes whilst still keeping within the guidelines.

@Miloarmadillo2 is this right WOE for you if you're already 8 stone. The BSD / Fast 800 is mainly if you are considered obese and pre diabetic or diabetic. You dont want to be passing out or anything like that.

ThePawtriarchy · 10/09/2020 17:35

Hi Everyone, I’m on week 5, day 5. I stalled a lot from week 2 - 4 (just a couple of pounds) but now it’s started moving quite quickly. No idea what was going on with my body for the intervening weeks!

1questionshootout · 10/09/2020 19:13

Ooooh, thats encouraging, Pawtriarchy!

Here's my salmon'n'brocolli from the Fast 800 recipe book. Sesame oil, seeds and soy sauce were the flavourings, very tasty.

ThePawtriarchy · 10/09/2020 19:17

That looks great @1questionshootout - I’m hungry!

TantricTwist · 10/09/2020 19:26

Thanks for posting the lovely food picture @1questionshootout esp as it's fish, looks delicious. You must have read my mind because I was going to ask if people could post their fish dish photos.

@ThePawtriarchy that's great everythings moving finally for you. Maybe our bodies panic and hold on to what it can before it surrenders.
