Hi 👋

Some of you might remember me, I was on the last thread. There's a lot of names I don't recognise but hi @Kimlek and @yumyumpoppycat (and that's a proper blast from the past, how are you?!) among others.

So.... I took a mumsnet break and a BSD/fast800 break. I really needed it actually. I did a very strict 'life detox' elimination diet, (including my bathroom scales) called Whole30. Initially it was 30 days but I felt so good on it, I'm now on day 44. It's Paleo based, quite similar to the med diet but not calorie counting, and no dairy, gluten or soy, but I have had occasional sweet potato and a lot more veg than I've been used to having . But not a gram of sugar or dairy or grains has passed my lips in 44 days! I lost 11lbs in the first 30 and my scales are now in the loft until day 60 so I can't tell if I've lost anymore but I have literally watched muscles appear on my arms! I think for me with my exercise regime I need a 'no count' solution to maintain my weight and also fuel my running and unfortunately BSD/fast 800 wasn't quite doing it for me in recent months (gawd knows I tried)

I feel so good on it that I'm sticking with it for now, so I'm just checking in to say for the time being I'm not returning to the fast800 threads. But don't worry, I'm not inhaling cake batter or Bourbon biscuits!

Keep up your hard work, You're all doing so well!

Jollyholibobs · 02/09/2020 20:06

Thanks @RR369 it’s only day 20 and that is useful advice. I’ll try a bit of experimentation.

Purpleraindeer · 02/09/2020 20:56

Hi all!
It’s good to see lots of other new people on here doing a September new start.
I’ve had an ok first few days - it has been harder on work days than it was on bank hol Monday when I could distract myself. I’m still feeling hungry (but less hungry) and getting used to not having breakfast but I’m definitely in mourning for my bowl of porridge which I loved Sad I feel the same way as you carbhunter
I’m sooooo thirsty and also weeing loads so I guess that is the normal side effect. I will be pleased when this bit passes though and I get on to the keto phase.
When should that happen do you think? Googling tells me any time from 2 days to 2 weeks which feels like a long time to be hungry and tired.

Jollyholibobs · 02/09/2020 21:18

I am also mourning my porridge but reminding myself that I feel really good for the changes I have made. I felt weak and light headed and generally meh for the first week but then it started improving. Stick with it Purple.

Summer15coming · 02/09/2020 22:46

Hi everyone. The week is going well for me so far. I'm feeling rather hungry now, though, so will be taking myself to bed earlier than usual!

I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to what and where I can eat in London tomorrow? I'm going up there for a day out, and don't ideally want to have to just rely on packed food. I want us to be able to enjoy going to a cafe or restaurant, even if I'm just eating a side salad or similar!

1questionshootout · 03/09/2020 06:24

Salads are a good option. You don’t have to avoid dressing, but i would steer clear of croutons and sides of bread. Omelette if that’s an option. Or just protein and veg ( steak and broccoli, chicken and Green beans). Do you know which places you might be eating in, can you check their menus in advance?

I’ll be having the weekend off plan, as we are away for DHs birthday. My biggest problem this week has been constipation [hmmm]

Oysterbabe · 03/09/2020 07:18

I have to admit I do sack the diet off if I'm eating out. It's a fairly infrequent occurrence so I'm fine with it, and it's literally for 1 meal.

aceofbase1 · 03/09/2020 07:54

So I had two days off last week and gained 6lb - was hoping it was mostly water but here we are 4 days later and I've only lost 4lbs if that gain! So it feels that two days off has set me back a week!

I don't understand how I gained that much weight in two days! I'm feeling a bit disheartened that this time last week I was 2lbs lighter than I am now and I've basically lost week 3 trying to play catch up Sad I am going to carry on but wonder if I'm future I can have a cheat "meal" and not cheat for two days because it just isn't worth the disappointment on the scales!

Wondering whether to do my measurements and see if they have changed since I started

outwest · 03/09/2020 08:25

That Whole30 is an interesting approach, thanks for coming back to share it. Well done @thenewaveragebear1983, and good luck.

Kimlek · 03/09/2020 08:29

Hi @thenewaveragebear1983 good to hear you’re doing so brilliantly!! We’ve set up a maintenance thread now too if that’s more appropriate for you...

Oysterbabe · 03/09/2020 08:31

What mini goals have people set?
I like to have lots so I'm always close to achieving one. Here are mine.

Back in the 10s
10lbs down (10st 9.6)
Healthy weight (10st 6)
1 stone lost (10st 5.6)
Lowest post baby weight (10st 4)
10% of body weight lost (10st 3.6)
Goal (10st)

Summer15coming · 03/09/2020 08:51

Thanks, 1question! We've not actually decided where we'll eat yet, I will have a bit of a research on the train! If you or anyone else has any recommendations that would be great! The omelette is a really good idea as unfortunately (in terms of easiness) I'm pescatarian, otherwise I agree it would be quite easy to have a cut of meat and some veg/salad. Maybe there are some places good for fish that isn't battered or smothered in sauce?

I know I need to be a little more relaxed about it to enjoy our day out, but going completely off-piste is a little dangerous for me! Who knows whether I'd get back on it tomorrow!

Summer15coming · 03/09/2020 09:03

Funnily enough, Oysterbabe, I don't even have a firm end goal - I think I will have to judge it when I'm nearer! The last time I was around the place where I'm aiming for was winter 2016 and I thought at the time it was a great weight for me. But just the other day I came across a photo of me from then and I look a bit 'lollipop' and overly thin. It's funny, because it was still a good half stone more than I used to be in my early thirties.

To get there was the easiest, least effort and most effective diet I've ever done. It's called the 'Discover your husband is having an affair with your close friend Diet' and it works a treat. Every time I thought about eating I felt sick, so barely ate. So maybe I just didn't look healthy because I wasn't healthy. Anyway, I have about 12 pounds or so before I'm in that vicinity. First goal is definitely healthy weight (10 stone), which is 4lbs away.

Miloarmadillo2 · 03/09/2020 12:26

Checking back in - I cleared my tablet history and appear to have reverted to previous username. It's patchwork (waves) I've done a dripping wet Parkfit class this morning and walked the dog and I am soooo ready for Portobello pizza for lunch! My two youngest children are back at school today - hurray!

Miloarmadillo2 · 03/09/2020 12:29

summer15 ouch! That must have been horrible.

We really like Young's Gastro frozen fish - either lemon and pepper or light tempura batter. Not too bad on Cal's or carbs though I am not strictly following fast 800

Miloarmadillo2 · 03/09/2020 12:31

Oh sorry, you were asking about eating out! Ignore me Blush

Cantteach · 03/09/2020 13:10

0.8lb off since yesterday so all good here. Had 2 coconut wraps with hummus, carrot and salad for lunch. I really like the coconut wraps. I feel comfortably full and even with a small apple afterwards I'm still had less than 300 cals.

Oyster my goals are lose a stone, lose a 2nd stone, lose a third stone, lose a few more lbs so I'm no longer obese Blush and will go from there.

Jollyholibobs · 03/09/2020 13:34

I ate out recently and asked the potatoes to be replaced with more veg. It worked very well.

Day 21 and loss so far 11lbs. I‘be been disappointed in the rate of loss this week which has slowed down but still 1.8lbs in the week so actually that’s fine.
I’m really happy with this and equally happy that for now I have broken some carbaholic habits and cravings and find it easy to stay under 800 calories if I keep low carb.

TantricTwist · 03/09/2020 14:47

So after 3 weeks on this BSD / Fast 800 I tried cauliflower rice yesterday to have with my chilli con carne and I have to say it was tasty.

I probably wouldn't have thought that 3 weeks ago maybe but it did the trick. I just grated it added salt and bunged in the microwave for 3-4 mins, job done.

I made roasted swede the other day which turned out really well and was a good enough substitute for potatoes.

I'm not weighing myself but I have gone down a dress size and T-shirts are hanging loosely as opposed to me bulging out of them 3 weeks ago.

I've been quite strict because I was just so fed up being this size esp when it was boiling hot the other week when I started this journey. I think it's easier for me to just avoid all crappy food unless I'm out and just have no choice or it's right under my nose, but happy to eat much less than before.

1questionshootout · 03/09/2020 17:19

I have new scales which link to my Fitbit, so I’m weighing daily. I will definitively take measurements tomorrow, DH has commented on how much my bum and tum has reduced.

carbhunter · 03/09/2020 17:31

In terms of goals, mine is to get down to a healthy BMI which means i have at least 20lbs to go (lost 8lbs so far).
I know that it gets harder from here as the challenge for me is sticking with it and not going back to eating crap.
This time it is more about health than aesthetics, so whilst i want to get into a size 12, I am primarily motivated to lose belly fat and get myself healthy. I'm getting older and scared about the health problems weight can cause.
My mantra is not to let food control me anymore!

Spinningdot · 03/09/2020 17:42

Oh my god is this thirst normal when fasting? I feel like I'm drinking gallons of water and herbal tea and it's just not touching the thirst plus I'm bursting for the loo every 10 minutes.
Have any of you experienced this?

CurseryKinkajoo · 03/09/2020 19:42

@Spinningdot yes - I've gone from being remarkably camel like to seeing all the bloody time!!

Having a bad day today - tired, hungry and craving crappy food. Feeling bloated as well so wonder if I'm PMTing. Anyway, determined to stay on track so will be having square of 85% choc while watching telly and go to bed early...

RR369 · 03/09/2020 19:48

I feel your pain @aceofbase1 I am in a similar situation!! I did three days last week, took Sat and Sun off due to commitments made before starting and on Mon morning I was back to where I started ☹️ I'm really hoping to be even a tiny bit under where I was last Sat morning when I get to this Sat 🤞 On the bright side, I would be even worse now if I hadn't done the three fast 800 days last week. The other positive thing to look forward to is that cheat days have less of a negative impact when you're in maintenance in my experience so keep going, we'll get there!

1questionshootout · 03/09/2020 19:59

Goals:

1- overweight rather than obese ( achieved wk 1)

6 - 10 1/2 stone

Other milestones
Lots of size 10 and 12 clothes that I’ll be tryin on.
