I come home today so will weigh in tomorrow. I was proud of myself at the buffet and made good choices. I had a small slice of birthday cake to be social though. In the evening the only option was cheese and crackers, tried to eat more cheese and less crackers.

Made myself a packed lunch on Saturday so that was fine. Dinner was take out curry Blush but only had small portion of rice and skipped all the other stuff. Had about a bottle of wine over weekend too.

I know from diet POV that was rubbish but I feel good about it. Didn't feel deprived and feel like that's how normal life could be when I'm at target weight and somewhere where I don't get much say in food options. Certainly had a lot less than normally would have done.

Well done holibobs for your restraint!

1questionshootout · 23/08/2020 08:30

End of week 1 here, weighed in this morning, and I've reached my first target! I am no longer obese Smile

1questionshootout · 23/08/2020 08:30

Sorry, forgot I'd already posted that.....

Oysterbabe · 23/08/2020 09:07

Amazing, well done!

Meh2020 · 23/08/2020 09:26

Please may I join?

I haven’t read the full thread but can I ask, are you all signed up for the online Fast 800 programme or did you get the books or just instinctively know?!

Not sure I want to part with £100 for the online programme so thinking about buying the book.

I did see someone has mentioned a pinch of nom recipe... so thinking it’s pretty flexible??

Sorry for the questions - I’m quite excited about this. I have about 20lbs to lose and think this might be the way.

Thanks

Oysterbabe · 23/08/2020 09:36

Welcome Meh
Paying £100 is not necessary imo. You can plan an 800 calorie low carb menu using online resources.

I want to lose the same amount as you and am a week in.
Good luck!

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/08/2020 10:06

I actually found the book free online. So I’ve taken not even necessary to buy the book if you google!

So I’m on and have stayed the same the last two, three (can’t remember) weigh ins. I’m not convinced my period actually makes a huge difference weight wise. I’ve definitely notice my weight loss drops then sticks, drops then sticks. I’m definitely in that group of Peru menopausal women who struggles to lose. It really feels like a battle.

Morning all. I started well and lost 1kg in 2 days Shock then had a night out and fell off the wagon for the remainder of the week. I have clambered back on this morning and have a free trial if the premium MFP service so I can see the carb numbers. I am aiming for brunch, mid afternoon snack and dinner as that worked well last week. I weigh in on Monday and Thursdays , but I am going to skip tomorrow seeing as I ate a Magnum ice cream and a custard tart yesterday!

First goal is to not be obese which is 7lbsBlush

The maintenance thread is here if anyone interested

There’s no hard & fast rules (ha ha) It’s whatever works for you. I don’t think any of us do 5:2 but a mix of methods. It’s all very much experimental!!

Jollyholibobs · 23/08/2020 11:00

Well done @1questionshootout.

@Cantteach sounds like you balanced the social environment with your new WOE well. It’s so easy to use a break from normal eating as an excuse to over engulfed.Particularly if you let your self get into the mindset that you have been deprived.

I watched others eating deserts last night and reminded myself that they were tucking into an insulin spike and it didn’t look so attractive then.

outwest · 23/08/2020 11:17

"...or just instinctively know?!"

Welcome @Meh2020, suspect none of us have instincts that well-honed! Suggest you track what you're eating carefully, perhaps using MyFitnessPal or similar, and investigate existing, verified recipes.

Did not sign up for programme. Found the food in the 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet Recipe Book very good, and used that. Also like Carbs & Cals Very Low Calorie Recipes & Meal Plans.

Initially looks like a lot of faff - get these veg, buy that condiment - but it's not really; just a matter of getting used to it.

Numbersarefun · 23/08/2020 11:55

Hi all,
I have read this thread and then started reading the previous one and it looks like lots of you are trying to lose a couple of stones or so. Is there anyone who has lots to lose? I probably need to lose about half of me so it’s going to take a while.
My GP recommended the 800 kcal and low carb diet so have bought the Fast 800 book by MM. I’ll probably need lots of support and you all seem very helpful!

outwest · 23/08/2020 12:30

so it’s going to take a while.

@Numbersarefun It will take time, but benefit of building in massive calorific deficits, as in this diet, is more rapid weight loss than in many approaches. That helps motivation.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 23/08/2020 13:48

Afternoon all, and hello newbies! More losses being reported, I love it!

Today:

Fasted until 11:30 when I had my protein shake. Had an omelette for lunch and having a roast for tea. Exercise - I did a retro aerobics workout this morning and then weights. I'm doing a hiit then a spin class this afternoon. The weather here is beyond shocking and I've lots of energy so may as well use it!

I've a week left of being strictly on plan/exercising before I go back to work full time. I've got an online shop coming filled with pre-prepared things to make life easier once I'm back, and I'm moving my exercise over the next week to the same slots I'll use when I'm back at work. (6am, 6pm)

1st September will mark the start of "phase three" of this year (I gave myself the year to lose 5 stone) and I'll have about 1stone left of it to shed. I'm planning on following the med diet principles but upping my calorie allowance and looking at working towards something more sustainable long term, so maybe a 1lb/week loss over the next few months?

I've also stopped shedding hair at an alarming rate which has made me feel less terrified of eating this way long term, at least. 👍🏻

TantricTwist · 23/08/2020 15:32

I'm breaking my fast with a chicken leg cooked on chopped white cabbage and the result is delicious. Everyone else is having roast wedge potatoes with theirs. I stole 2 very thin ones that had crisped up.

Later I'll probably have left over roasted veggies (broccoli, courgette, cabbage and onion) which I roasted in a bit of marinara sauce yesterday (of which I made a huge pot) and despite me thinking it was going to taste meh, turned out delicious once all the veggies had softened up and blended together more.

Are you guys eating chicken skin or not on the BSD / Fast800? I sort of have been. I tend to cut off the extra fat you get from the side of the chicken leg and get it really crispy and crunchy in the oven. I figured we're meant to eat more fat to keep fuller, yes?

I'll make some Aubergine parmigiana later and cut it into portions. The DC will happily have the marinara sauce on pasta or rice so everyone's happy.
I'm also planning on using the marinara sauce for shakshuka, which is actually why I made it in the first place. Very useful sauce it would seem.

TantricTwist · 23/08/2020 15:35

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa Wow what an inspiring loss, 4 stone thats brilliant. Have you tried Biotin shampoo or taking cod liver oil / omega 3 perhaps for your hair. I'm looking into those for my DD whose hair I think is thinning on her forehead from tying her hair back too much and too tightly.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 23/08/2020 16:18

I've got biotin shampoo,I'm taking biotin supplements, plus collagen and lots of other vitamins @TantricTwist. I've tried everything! It's just something that happens with a big weight loss apparently - whichever way you choose to lose the weight.

1questionshootout · 23/08/2020 17:16

I've done 5:2 in the past, so I kinda know what foods fit into a low cal plan that works for me.

I have the BSD recipe book - it's OK, but I find some of the meals hit and miss. Plus I don't eat red meat or chicken.

So my meals tend to be variations on fish'n'veg, cheese omelettes, and stir fries. I'm Ok with konjac noodles now and again, and love cauli rice.

But portion size is crucial - I bought a piece of salmon in the supermarket, and it was 200g. Most recipes will only allow for 100-130. So it's really important to weight what you plan to eat, and calculate the cals. MyFitnessPal is what I use, I love the recipe generator function.

Cantteach · 23/08/2020 17:24

Numbers if I lose half my body weight I'll have a bmi of 19. I really can't think that far ahead though. Up until Friday I'd lost almost 10lb but need to lose another 38lb just to get to my first goal of a bmi of 30. I've probably put on some this weekend but this was always going to be a long haul thing. I know it daunting but just start. The plan is easy to follow and gives results quickly which is a good motivator. I'll certainly be around for months!

Patchworksack · 23/08/2020 17:34

My dinner is cooking and I am starving! It's a Jamie Oliver recipe for roast chicken with a hot lemon in the cavity which you cook on top of roasties and chorizo, but I have swapped celeriac for potato to keep it low carb, and will do a smaller portion with lots of roast Mediterranean veg. Sprinkle with gremolata (garlic and parsley and lemon zest) It just smells amazing!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 23/08/2020 18:20

@Patchworksack that sounds absolutely delicious!!

Belindabelle · 23/08/2020 19:11

Well this is day 7 for me and so far this week I have lost 9lbs.

I am throwing everything at it this time.

I have managed 7 days of 16/8.
7 days of

aceofbase1 · 23/08/2020 19:24

Wow jolly that sounds like great determination in the face of so much temptation Smile

Well I have to confess it failed yesterday. I only started Tuesday and was loving it. Because I was at the hairdressers my fast lasted 20 hours (next time I will be taking a shake with me that was stupid) so by the time I left I felt faint and shaky,

I got home and ate some cheese and chicken. And then I had some chocolate Blush and then some biscuits and then some popcorn and felt shit as I'd ruined it. I decided to have Saturday night off as we were having pad Thai and I was going to use the konjac noodles but thought sod it ive ruined it now anyway I'll start again tomorrow.

So I have pad Thai for tea but I had a much smaller portion than I would usually have and then I had the halo top ice cream and only ate half the tub. I also had two glasses of Pimms Blush

I then decided I would do a 16 hour fast and start again Sunday. I'd already walked to the hairdressers so that was 2 miles I'd normally drive.

I fasted and then had tuna and cucumber today and then a cottage pie made with cauliflower mash and strawberries and Greek yogurt afterwards. And I've walked 2 miles today as well. I'm ending the day on 720 calories so I'm hoping and praying I haven't ruined everything after yesterday and my heads now totally back in it Grin

outwest · 23/08/2020 21:17

Great start @Belindabelle, well done
