Well done cantteach that's fantastic. Have a lovely weekend!

I am down another pound, one and a half away from my initial goal. I've had really good chats about low-carb with my SIL over the last few days, she is worried about my brother who suddenly has a proper belly.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/08/2020 07:45

The fabulous thing about low carb and intermittent fasting is your metabolism stays high. So there is no reason why you can’t keep on losing weight. What normally happens is your metabolism decreases alongside your energy intake which is why ultimately calories in/calories out fail for the majority of people.

I also converted my mother yesterday who has put in weight over lockdown 🤭. I’ve suggested she watch MM’s new program 21 days and as a starting point just start to prioritise low carb foods over supposed high carb ‘healthy’ foods.

Hi everyone I would like to join this thread. I have been reading it all week and you are all so positive and inspiring.
Just done a week of fast 800 and have lost 5.8 lbs in the first week. Really encouraged and certainly noticing how much better I feel on low carb. I haven’t quite managed TRE yet I have a long working day so need to have my breakfast before I start and dinner after I finish. I have noticed that I perform better doing evening exercise if I have most of my calories at lunch not evening.

Courgetti is fantastic for making a plate look fuller. I am pescatarian and actually don’t eat much fish so it’s a good discipline for me to find nutritious meals without relying on carb.

Oysterbabe · 21/08/2020 08:21

Wow, well done Cantteach
Welcome Holibobs!

I had 3 glasses of red wine last night with my friend so I feel a bit wobbly this morning. I normally skip breakfast but just had some berries and natural yoghurt. I'm making shakshuka for lunch.

Fantastic!!! Well done 👏. The reason we’re all doing so well is because this WOE works!! 🤭

Morning everyone! Loving seeing the losses this morning! I've had a sneaky weigh this morning and look back on track after all the random gains of last weeks heatwave.

Today's plan:
Fast till 12, courgetti dish for lunch, sausages and veg for tea.

Exercise - a HIIT, a BodyPump and a cycle - poss a long one as it's so wet and miserable here I won't be going out!

Have a great day all. 😊

aceofbase1 · 21/08/2020 08:41

Welcome jolly :)

So I only started on Tuesday and this morning I've lost 5lbs! Grin can't wait to see the full weeks worth of weight loss!

I had a bad day yesterday and was very close to cheating and drinking a cup of tea during my fast last night but I got a glass of water instead and brushed my teeth and that helped and I didn't cave!

The real test for me is the weekend! I think of the weekend as days to eat treats and drink wine Sad so I really need to pick some yummy recipes and then I at least have something to look forward to

Good luck for the weekend everyone Smile

wrensandrobins · 21/08/2020 10:30

Happy Friday!

Did a cheeky midweek weigh in and have lost 2lb since Monday, lunch is shakshuka, dinner tonight will be halloumi in a homemade peri peri with butternut fries :)

Afternoon tea tomorrow!! But hopefully all my 16:8 fasting and calorie watching this week will off set and I will still see a small loss on Monday!

MrsMcMuffins · 21/08/2020 11:26

I really struggle with breakfast on this diet. I usually eat toast with marmalade. I find yoghurt does not fill me up, I don’t like eating a lot of eggs and I don’t like fried food. This morning I had rye bread with avocado and scrambled eggs which I am hoping is not too bad but probably far too many calories.

Oysterbabe · 21/08/2020 11:55

Skip it Muffins
I don't have the time or inclination to cook anything suitable in the mornings so enjoy having 2 more substantial meals and a longer fast. You get used to it pretty quick.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/08/2020 11:58

How about a milky coffee @MrsMcMuffins? I find sometimes that that fills me up nicely.

TantricTwist · 21/08/2020 12:16

So much positivity I love it Smile

Everyone's doing so well makes me want to stick to this WOE because it's really working.

I have some aubergine parmigiana left over which I'll be having later today with some fried cabbage which I really love with some cumin on it.

I'll be breaking fast in a minute with a mushroom omelette, those eggs like to keep me fuller for longer and fortunately I still love them.

I've always wanted to make Shakshuka so I'm inspired to try that.

Do I just cook it on the hob or does it need to go in the oven once I've cracked the eggs @Oysterbabe @wrensandrobins

MrsMcMuffins · 21/08/2020 12:20

Breakfast is the most important meal for me. I exercise for an hour each morning and need to eat something substantial before I start work or I cannot concentrate and get grumpy. I also don’t have much time to spend making breakfast. I need to be saved from my toast 😫

It could be as simple as something left over from dinner heated up. It could be something you prepare in advance and have sitting there waiting for you. If toast is the only thing you can imagine eating just buy some Keto bread. There’s always way to Keto everything.
Oysterbabe · 21/08/2020 12:24

I put the lid on the pan and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

TantricTwist · 21/08/2020 12:26

Maybe you could preboil some eggs the day before and grab them from the fridge for your breakfast @MrsMcMuffins.

Boiled eggs were recommended to me as a snack on here and are always good to have in the fridge.

TantricTwist · 21/08/2020 12:28

Thanks @Oysterbabe that makes sense esp as I often put a lid on to cook through my yolks when I fry eggs. Can't wait to try it out.

outwest · 21/08/2020 13:28

I am hoping is not too bad but probably far too many calories

MrsMcMuffins, everybody is different - some people need proper breakfast, some don't - but whatever approach you take, important for success to know/track how many calories you are ingesting. Some people can do it intuitively, vast majority (like me) cannot. Maybe try MyFitnessPal or similar site?

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/08/2020 14:48

outwest outside of the fast800 what are you’re thoughts about the importance of calories on a low carb diet? I’ve listened to over 80 hours of experts discussing low carb and there’s definitely a divide.

Jason Fung hates calorie as a concept and argues against it whereas people like Ted Naiman watches his calories and is definitely an advocate of protein first and then fat/small amount of carbs if you’re still hungry.

aceofbase1 · 21/08/2020 15:04

I was doing Keto for quite a while and my body would definitely stall losing if I ate day a lot of cheese and had higher calories because if it, do for me I had to be aware of calories for Keto to work

yumyumpoppycat · 21/08/2020 15:18

Muffins there is a fast 800 shake - depending what you add it's fairly low in cals you could have this after your workout. You might find you then need to manage your hunger by having a bigger lunch and smaller dinner.

Well done on all the losses everyone!

@justanotherneighinparadise I guess the second approach is more in line with the principles of this diet? I could be wrong as not looked into it much but there seems to be growing emphasis on keto as therapeutic rather than a long term woe?

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/08/2020 16:00

Therapeutically a ketogenic diet is AMAZING. Honestly I literally can’t go back to how I used to eat. I view these products as poison now. The 800 cals a day is a short term calorie restriction. I think MM then talks about 5:2 for maintenance.

Oysterbabe · 21/08/2020 16:39

Calorie restriction is important for me. I lose A LOT faster if counting rather than low carb alone. I hope it won't be necessary forever but is until I get to goal.
