I have! I was stuck at 159/160 for ages, now at 157lbs. I’ll got my first target if I can lose another 4lb, but ideally I want to lose another 6lb.

Food wise im honestly not sure about grams of carbs. I’m a terrible tracker. I also eat some weird food combinations. My best tips are fasting and eating only two meals, both low carb.

Kimlek · 09/08/2020 12:09

@SallyOMalley it’s not just on this thread but a well known fact that men’s weight comes off far more easily than women’s. The research is fascinating and often talked about in the podcasts. Lots of couple start together and the men instantly lose lots whilst their wives seriously stall or takes longer. Please please don’t compare yourself to your DH. It’s an unbelievably unfair comparison. You’re doing all the right things so it WILL happen. I’m 51 and peri and it was incredibly slow for me at around 1lb a week mostly sometimes nothing. I never had a whossh either. Keep going and I promise it’ll happen soon!

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/08/2020 12:18

So DP is doing really well low carbing alongside me but he was so hungry last night and had a wobble. We decided that he really needed to feel like he was eating a bit more like he did in the past and we felt the thing he missed most was bread. I do plan on making him bread in the future as there’s a few recipes online that people rave about, but to sort the issue out quickly I found this Keto bread on amazon at just 0.9 carbs a slice compared to the 50/50 bread I normally buy which is 17 carbs a slice. I thought I’d link to it in case it helps anyone.

@justanotherneighinparadise Re getting hungry, haven't tried this yet but looks interesting:

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/08/2020 12:35

Anything like that looks great to me, I’d absolutely eat it. I know he wouldn’t though. He’s a fussy beggar and isn’t that keen on broccoli. To my mind the benefits outweigh the quest for perfection. I don’t miss bread at all. I never ate rice or pasta so just giving up bread is not an issue. My partner loves pizza and things on toast, bagels etc. So I feel for him to stick to this I need to find a suitable pizza base replacement and a great Keto bread recipe.

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/08/2020 12:38

He is already starting to feel so much better in himself so it’s going to be fascinating how he feels in a few weeks/months. He has an autoimmune condition and is often very very tired in the day which makes him feel depressed.

As an aside I picked up my freebie exercise bike yesterday and whilst it’s a heap of shit I have been using it and we’ve decided to get me a spin bike for my HIIT. I also plan on getting kettle bells. I’ve just got to figure out the best one for the price point of £150-200.

SallyOMalley · 09/08/2020 14:36

Thank you for your kind words, @Kimlek ! I do appreciate that.

I am just telling myself that I'm doing all that I can. Dropping alcohol consumption, drinking more water and ditching the biscuits can only be good.

I KNOW that exercise and, in particular, weights make me feel good so I'm so pleased to get back to that. I adore my Pilates class and that's an immoveable fixture in my week. All this is GOOD and any downward movement on the scales is simply the cherry on top.

DH weighed himself first thing today and he now has a total loss of 1st 4lb in two weeks. I am delighted for him as I do worry about his overall health sometimes. git Wink

Kimlek · 09/08/2020 15:26

You’re not counting your exercise as calories are you @SallyOMalley? some people give themselves an extra allowance from exercise but I really wouldn’t recommend that as it tends to be easily over estimated. Well done to your DH that’s an incredible weight loss in just 2 weeks. I’d also recommend you measure everywhere. If you’re exercising and have good muscle mass & keep improving your muscle then your ‘weight’ may not alter massively but your body fat, visceral fat etc will and that’ll show mostly with your measurements.

Kimlek · 09/08/2020 15:31

@justanotherneighinparadise I’ve never bought it but there’s lo dough. I’m sure others on here buy it online. Bread is hard to replace whereas there’s a few pasta alternatives. I’m lucky as miss neither.

SallyOMalley · 09/08/2020 15:42

@Kimlek - good thought, but no. I wear a Garmin watch so I can see (apparent) active calories, but I take it with a fairly hefty pinch of salt and never eat them back. And yes to measuring - I must do that.

I started my period today so there will be some fluid retention kicking around this week because of that (a 20 day cycle - thanks perimenopause!!)

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/08/2020 15:52

Oh my gosh this podcast I’m listening to has honestly blown my mind. If you listen to none of the others make time to listen to no. 54 LowCarbMD with Kirsty Woods. She works in Australia in a metabolism clinic and just has tons of data where she can definitely answer the questions most of us wonder. I’m cleaning the toilet with my eyes out on stalks 🤣🤣

I’ll look that up @Kimlek. Sounds 👌

yumyumpoppycat · 09/08/2020 18:11

Hi do you mind if I join. I have done this before when bsd first came out and got down to 133lbs but regained all the weight and then quite a lot more back. Even my neck feels fat! I keep trying to restart this or 5:2 but failing. It was the same when I did Atkins moons ago - I just couldn't do it twice Confused I really need to not be obese with the whole Covid-19 thing though and if I get on with it I could hopefully be out of that category when the kids go back to school. I thought the channel 4 programme would inspire me but nope - hopefully posting here will!

NibbleQueen · 09/08/2020 20:19

Howdy all
Finishing up today on 790cals and 40g carbs
L: 2 sausages, greek yoghurt and blueberries
S: houmous and crudites
D: baked hake, spinach sautéed with chorizo and onion; chocolate
Cycled for an hour and did a lot of box packing / moving

It is amazing how much food can fit into 800 calories! Though I do worry about the environmental impact of eating animal protein every meal

Is anyone doing the 5:2 version of this diet?

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/08/2020 20:28

Welcome yumyum. You are very welcome to join us ✋✋

NibbleQueen I felt a bit guilty filling my freezer with reduced meat this weekend but I view it this was. I’m fasting for most of the day and eating so much less than I did before so to my mind it balances itself out. I wasn’t hungry at all today so all I had was some leftover chicken and salad leaves. That’s a huge difference to how I used to eat. I can’t see that I’m hurting the environment anymore than when I was shovelling all sorts of crap in my mouth all day long.

wrensandrobins · 09/08/2020 20:32

I'm joining for this month, last 23 pounds in 12 weeks doing this earlier in the year but lost my way a little in the last month! Back on it this week!

ohthegoats · 09/08/2020 20:52

I've just finished my first week on 800 cals a day. It might be a little over on cals as I don't count cooking oil, but definitely very low carb. I've been really hungry and had a stonking headache all week, latter might be weather, might be diet.

I've only lost about 5lbs, which just doesn't feel worth it really. That 5 lbs puts my BMI below 40, so I'm pretty blinking fat. Last time I did this (BSD 2016), I lost 2 stone in the 8 weeks, but I don't remember it being this all consuming. This time I'm thinking about food all the time. Might make it to 2 weeks but then will have to rethink.

Meh. Disappointing.

yumyumpoppycat · 09/08/2020 20:57

Well done on 23lvs lost wren! Thanks just SmileNibble queen I sort of have similar concerns and have been trying to eat more vegetarian or vegan meals a. I am def torn but think

yumyumpoppycat · 09/08/2020 21:00

Oops post too early - I think just is right that eating less, and with that less packaging waste etc had to be good. I might try and have a few meat free meals.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 09/08/2020 21:25

Evening all! Welcome newbies and welcome back to others.

I've had a lovely chilled weekend, plenty of exercise too.

Food wise, today I've ended on 837. Lunch was vegetable curry, dinner was roast beef and lots of veg. Also had a pack of pork puffs (taste like quavers but are carb free- basically air puffed pork rind, really tasty)

I've had lots and lots to drink too as had a tiny gain today, I think caused by the dehydration of the last few warm days.

Hoping to break into the next stone bracket at some point this week too. Exciting stuff!

NibbleQueen · 09/08/2020 21:29

Yeah I'm concerned as have been having meat/fish at every meal. I don't eat much red meat, which is the worst offender by far, but an definitely eating much more of all animal protein overall. Before BSD I'd usually have meat or fish about 5 meals a week with the rest based on pulses or grains. Now it's large hunks of fish twice a day. If you look at the carbon footprint of even responsibly sourced fish or chicken it's still more than double of vegetables, grains and pulses. Ideally I'd like to get to maintenance and reintroduce wholegrains and pulses and have fish a few times a week. It's also much less expensive! Yumyumpoppycat, what are your vegan BSD recipes?

yumyumpoppycat · 10/08/2020 00:42

I haven't really calorie/carb counted any vegan recipes yet nibble but you asking is a good incentive for me to give it a try. something I make a fair bit that would work is a tofu stir fry with toasted cashews , coconut oil, tamari garlic and ginger and ribbon veg instead of noodles. I make vegan chilli a lot which I love but my kids are distinctly unimpressed by my efforts Wink

I really like things like Sainsbury's vegan shroomdogs but they are not that low in carbs. I guess a compromise would be one really low carb fish/meat meal and save as many carbs as poss for a vegan evening meal with beans etc.

Kimlek · 10/08/2020 06:35

@ohthegoats sorry to hear this isn’t going as well as expected. You shouldn’t be ravenously hungry. I know you’ve done this before so know what you’re doing but I wonder if your fat intake is high enough so your satiated? The headaches could be Keto flu or dehydration but I’m guessing you’re having tons of water in this heat. To be fair 5lbs is a good amount in one week! Really good. Every pound or fraction of in the right direction all adds up. You lost 2st in 8weeks in 2016, have you kept that off or has it creeped on again? I’m asking as if you’re 2 stone lighter than last time it probably will be slower. Albeit 5lbs per week is phenomenal. At that rate it’d be 40lb in 8 weeks. So over 3 stones.

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/08/2020 07:09

Another tricking pound off overnight! Crazy. I’m losing more on the shorter fasts than I did on the longer ones I did last year. I’m 156lbs now, so 11 stone 1. The lightest I got to in memory was 10 stone 3 when I got goal on slimming world seven years ago. Put the weight straight back on afterwards though lol as I was STARVING 🤣
