Another 2lb gone overnight!!! Really shocked the fasting has been so effective even though I shouldn’t be really. I’m delighted 😃

NibbleQueen · 08/08/2020 08:13

9st10 today, a loss of 2lbs this week. I'm now in "set point" territory so will keep you posted.
I think my own set point is due to normally being around that weight and usually gaining weight that takes about a month to lose - which is about as long as I'm usually willing to avoid wine and cake for.

Yesterday closed up at 988 cals and 65g carbs (whoops). Had salad and chicken at the BBQ but an AF beer set me back 21g carb. The betrayal!! Might as well have had one with alcohol.

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/08/2020 08:54

I’m definitely in set point zone as well. Fingers crossed for both of us! Xx

SallyOMalley · 08/08/2020 09:57

Wow! There are some cracking weight losses here!

DH and I started the Fast 800 two weeks ago. After one week, he weighed himself and had lost 9lb. I lost a big fat zero. Coming to the end of two weeks and I've literally lost one measly pound!

DH's BMI is 35% and mine is 26-something. I'm 5.8 and (now) weigh 12st8lb. I've put on nearly a stone during lockdown and feel very unfit and lethargic.

It all seems very unfair! DH has hardly moved, I've walked/cycled everywhere (I don't drive) and I've back to the gym 3x a week doing cardio and weights. I like to work up a sweat so I don't really pootle along when I'm there.

We've been following recipes from the Fast 800 recipe book and DH has supplemented his with a few potatoes or some pasta. I haven't. We've both had an eating window of 12 midday - 8pm.

For me, a typical day of food would be something like:

B: nothing
L: huge salad with Parma ham and feta
D: steak with roasted med veg

Or

B: nothing
L: poached eggs or omelette with spinach and salmon
D: roasted chicken and salad

I'm not drinking any alcohol (apart from one g&t last night!)

I'm much better at drinking water than I was and probably have 1.5-2L a day. I know that's not enough ...

I'm knocking on the door of 50 and peri-menopausal, which I know won't help. Any other ideas?? This is really dispiriting. (And my DH is too smug!). Thanks :)

SallyOMalley · 08/08/2020 10:00

I meant to say, I log all my food too and I'm really very honest with that. There have been a couple of days where I have been slightly over but that's made up on other days when I'm slightly under.

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/08/2020 10:20

@SallyOMalley unfortunately you do fall into that difficult age bracket where even the experts scratch their heads a little so don’t give up.

Things that have helped me (I’m 45). Seeing it as a lifestyle and not a diet so basically two weeks is no time at all if you plot it against the rest of you’re life. I eat in the morning and lunch and then fast till the morning. I don’t know if this has any baring on weight loss, as I know you’re fasting in the morning instead of the evening but I’m a great believer in shaking stuff up so it might be worth trying for a few days. Perhaps ditch the alcohol for a few weeks if you can. Add in some HIIT (I’m picking up an exercise bike today for that end). Do a longer fast. Perhaps 24 hour or 36. Make sure you’re not snacking. Take your carbs down lower. Just shake it up!

I’ve well and truly fallen down the low carb podcast rabbit hole and am currently on episode 46 of the LowCarbMD podcast. There’s over 100 in the series. It helps me so much. They say to not even look at your weight for the first three weeks as you’re body doesn’t know what the hell its doing. It takes time to get Keto adapted. Are you ever hungry? Do you get a rumbly tummy? If it’s a yes to either of these then I’d say you’re not Keto adapted yet. I never get a rumbly tummy anymore and don’t get any hunger signs. That’s my way of knowing I’m burning my fat stores abs then the weight comes off. For me this seems to be making sure I’m fasting at least 18 hours a day. It seems to be the magic number for me.

Don’t give up!!!! (Unless you want to lol).

snowynight · 08/08/2020 12:16

Hello everyone, hope no-one minds me butting in. I'm on day 3 of the fast800, aiming to get to 14 days then maintaining on the 5:2.

I:be had surprisingly few hunger pangs but generally feel a bit grim - very low in energy, headachey. I'm keeping my water up and eating plenty of protein (following the book's recipes and meal plans - I can't look at another egg!). Any suggestion

SallyOMalley · 08/08/2020 13:28

@justanotherneighinparadise - thanks so much for your advice. I do still feel hungry sometimes, but not as much as at first. I can wait until lunchtime before eating without chewing my own arm off which, coming from a lifelong breakfast fiend, is something I guess.

I'll have a listen to the podcasts - thanks for the recommendation.

So, I feel reassured and resigned in equal measure. Watching my portions, drinking less wine and more water, and exercising more is no bad thing so I guess it's just a case of carrying on and seeing what happens!

(But if DH continues to lose just as quickly, I may just cry ...)

outwest · 08/08/2020 13:41

(And my DH is too smug!)

@SallyOMalley Unwise on his part! Has been speculation in this thread that women have some kind of hormonal interaction/overlay (in addition to insulin, leptin, ghrelin, etc.) that further complicates weight loss. Several others here have experienced similar problem. Keep at it. Eventually, provided the calorific deficit is there, something has to give.

NibbleQueen · 08/08/2020 15:04

I think they do say that weight training is much more important in that age group. As you age you lose muscle, and muscle is much more effective at burning calories! The less muscle you have the fewer calories you need and therefore it's impossible not to gain weight if you're eating the same as before but with lower calorie needs

I think that’s right. Men have more natural muscle mass. Weight lifting is definitely in my future. Kettle bells maybe.

Hi,

Very new newbie joining the thread if thats ok?

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/08/2020 17:46

Welcome Kraken

KrakenAwakes · 08/08/2020 17:58

Thank you @justanotherneighinparadisehe

I am just trying to decide whether to buy the books (I get very little time to read) or do the twelve week £99 course with mealplans.

I was following a robust training plan until March when I fell ill with COVID. Following a slow recovery from that and lockdown eating I have piled on the pounds and I'm now 99kg, I need to be around 65-70Kg really. Training restarts in Sept (triathlons) so I am hoping that this Fast800 will kickstart my motivation and then I can do 5:2 around training - has anyone else done similar?

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/08/2020 18:14

I found a pdf if the book online so do a google search before you buy it 👍

Welcome, @KrakenAwakes.

A friend suggested we do diet together. Read the reviews and thought it might work. Bought the Blood Sugar Diet recipe book and later on the Carbs & Cals recipe book (both have meal plans), picked recipes for week ahead and just went for it. That was at start of May. As of today, just over three months later, am down nearly 19kg. So big losses absolutely possible.

Did actually buy the Blood Sugar Diet book itself at a later date, out of curiosity, and thought it was good & well argued, but don't actually need to read it unless you want to know the why of things.

Some advice: eat only recipes from the books (or similar books), count calories religiously, weigh daily (but expect to see fluctuations), quit booze for the duration. This worked for me. Others have used different approaches.

Lndnmummy · 08/08/2020 19:36

@justanotherneighinparadise can I ask please how many grams of carbs you stick to?

KrakenAwakes · 08/08/2020 19:56

thank you @outwest, I'm thinking I might join the 12w online programme to keep me accountable as I don't know anyone else doing this and I really have to get some weight shifted fast than longer term find a way of juggling low cal (fast) days with the higher carb/higher protein needs for weight lifting. I can't ask my PT as she isn;t working till Sept!

@KrakenAwakes If speed is of the essence, might be good idea. Would not have done as well without my "buddy", especially in early stages.

NibbleQueen · 08/08/2020 21:28

Closing today on 880 cals and 49g carbs

L: large salad w 2x boiled eggs and chopped smoked salmon; strawberries
D: duck with ginger & spring onion (takeaway) + steamed beetroot tops; solero
Walked for about 90mins today all in all

Really managed to keep on track this weekend so I'm chuffed about that.
Fingers crossed for next week!

Welcome to all the newcomers Smile
@justanotherneighinparadise can I ask please how many grams of carbs you stick to?
I’m not sure. I would definitely say under 50 and probably more like under 25g but I’m not stressing too much as what I’m doing seems to be working. If it stops working I’ll have to reassess.

My advice is definitely fast and eat two low carb meals to satiety. Don’t snack, don’t have days off. Really enjoy your food. Now DP is onboard it’s been really fun to cook properly. Tonight I cooked roast chicken, a dodgy Keto gravy, fried suede noodles and broccoli. Then for desert he had Greek yogurt and berries. I don’t eat in the evening so will eat my dinner in the morning (because that’s when my hunger is the strongest).

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/08/2020 08:15

Another pound off this morning! 😮

NibbleQueen · 09/08/2020 08:20

@justanotherneighinparadise interested in how you've made it under 25g on the regular. What are your typical meals?

I'm usually around 50g but aware I'm spunking about 20g a day on AF beers, ice lollies etc Blush

NibbleQueen · 09/08/2020 08:21

Also congrats on your sustained loss! Have you made it past so-called set point now?
