I just googled Keto beef and slow cooker and a recipe appeared that sounded good. I’ll link to it.
www.ditchthecarbs.com/low-carb-beef-stroganoff/

I didn’t think about stew type food being for cold weather but I guess you’re right. I just love slow cooked meat as it falls apart and goes all unctuous. Having the smell of it cooking s day has come my fast no good at all though. I’m bloody starving!!

Dinnerfor1 · 11/08/2020 16:58

Thanks everyone, it would seem fear can be a good motivator 😳 I’d been wanting to lose the weight for a long time but the COVID outbreak, and the talk of the dangers for seriously obese people, gave me the push I needed. Here is one of my latest progress pictures, although I’ve lost another 5lb since the photo on the right, and was 1 stone 8lb heavier than the photo on the left when I started. Annoyingly I don’t have any photos from then as I just couldn’t bare to have pictures taken.

@justanotherneighinparadise The beef stroganoff looks delicious! I cooked a casserole on the hottest day of the year - I always just think of what I fancy and then realise it doesn’t quite suit the weather!

Patchworksack · 11/08/2020 17:15

santa and neigh with you on the awareness of what we feed the children. I tend to have the same as DH at main meals, and add a portion of carbs for the kids, but it has made me hyper aware of the amount of crap pushed at them all the time. We've just been away for a week visiting family, and a friend gave them mountains of sweets, just far beyond what was reasonable. We went for a long 8 mile walk with a pub lunch in the middle, and SIL was feeding her kids and mine sugary snacks all the way, then MIL gave them all crisps on their return. I was the po-faced monster when I said no to a second bag! Yesterday met different set of cousins for a walk and it was the same - rucksack stuffed full of snacks and drinks. Since we not actually going to outer Siberia, I had water bottles and 'it's not long until lunch'.

Hello
I'm gearing up to start again on the f800. I had good results previously but life and drama got in the way and it has almost all crept back on. I am in the overweight bmi category and I'm unhappy to say that I have a high risk weight measurement Blush! I've just spent a happy holiday eating and drinking freely and I have serious work to do. So as not to go into terrible shock I'm planning to cut carbs, increase veg and cut down snacks and booze for a few days before starting with a vengeance on Monday. I'm finding all of the tips and stories on here so inspirational!!

Miffytastic · 11/08/2020 19:36

Thanks Kimlek. Bought some soya protein powder and going to switch things up a bit. Slight problem is I’m away on a mini break Thurs-Sat in a hotel so I think will be trying to maintain for half this week...

Well done dinnerfor1- you can see the results!

Welcome Berol

NibbleQueen · 11/08/2020 19:50

Finishing up today on 810cals and 50g carbs

L: scallop, tofu and green bean broth; greek yog and raspberries
S: cauliflower marinated in chilli oil
D: cod baked with garlic and chive butter; courgettes in a caper and gherkin dressing; DELICIOUS yeo valley frozen kefir. Worth the carbs especially on a day like this

Kimlek · 11/08/2020 20:07

@Miffytastic you also mentioned porridge.... don’t want to be a pain in the arse killjoy, but porridge is very carby. Put me back in my box if it’s some fab low carb version and I’m getting in your business!!

Kimlek · 11/08/2020 20:28

@Miffytastic aaah there’s always blooming something... but enjoy your mini break!! Maybe just be BSD aware?
@Patchworksack have you seen Jason Fung on YouTube? It’s so true we give our kids constant snacks! And rubbish snacks too. I don’t give them rubbish 😇 but my DH 🙄 even my kids have told him it’s too much!! I’m ancient but when I was a kid it was a lot of ‘no, it’ll ‘spoil your lunch/dinner’ and taking a snack to school NEVER happened! So it’s poor food choices as well as constantly eating. We can easily set them up for obesity.
welcome @Beroltheperil it’s a lovely supportive group!
@Dinnerfor1 that photo is impressive and to think the before was actually a stone heavier is super impressive. I’m so proud of you, don’t know you but super proud!! 👏🏻

3kidsareenough · 11/08/2020 21:08

Thanks houseRefurb will check that out, actually have cinnamon in the press - could maybe use it in the Greek yogurt. Dh blood sugars this morning were the lowest they've been in months & months, they've been up around 17 every morning today they were 4 so he was delighted so that's spurred him on for today. I found it really tough today, first day back at work after a few weeks off and there was just food everywhere Confused was struggling by 4 felt just a bit zoned out & a bit ahh feck it but kept with it. Had a lovely dinner of portobello pizza mushrooms & spinach with chicken.

Wow Dinnerfor1 that is amazing 4 stone is just fantastic

Miffytastic · 11/08/2020 21:08

Yes you’re right kimlek - I’ve found myself googling vegan fast 800 breakfasts today. I have a overnight oats 35g done mix of soya milk, berries and a seed mix (10g). I am wondering what I could switch it too. It is my favourite meal of the day mind you...

buntingandstarcharts · 11/08/2020 21:22

Hi everyone, newbie here. Please can you help me understand whether I should be avoiding oats? I've read the book and have the recipe book too and can see MM suggests oats as ok but later he says that avoid as many carbs as poss to get into ketosis. I'm eager to get there ASAP so should I avoid oats? Or can I have them and still start keto? TIA

buntingandstarcharts · 11/08/2020 21:23

@Kimlek just seen your post! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I agree - oats seem very carby to be allowed?

yumyumpoppycat · 11/08/2020 21:27

Fab before and after dinner!

Welcome berol - I am a newbie oldie too!

3kids well done to your dh - great news about blood sugar and well done to you for keeping going.

Your food sounds amazing nibble EnvyGrin

Miffy not sure if it's better carb wise but pretty sure there is a muesli recipe in one of the MM recipe books, could have it with yogurt? Scrambled tofu is actually pretty nice, think you add turmeric to make it look more like eggs, poss have with some avocado. Easiest option would be to get vegan fast 800 protein shake but check reviews, I have one (not vegan) it's pretty grim but improves a bit blended with frozen berries and spinach

Miffytastic · 11/08/2020 22:05

There’s an overnight oats recipe in the F800 books and online too (thefast800.com/chia-breakfast-bircher/ ) they always state steel cut oats

Miffytastic · 11/08/2020 22:07

I think MM says to see how you get ok with having it

Thanks yumyum thinking I’ll tweak my recipe a bit to make it more like a smoothie bowl for a bit

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/08/2020 22:16

I would be avoiding oats to be honest. Stick to protein rich, high fat foods. What foods do you like to eat if you weren’t thinking about calories?

Patchworksack · 11/08/2020 22:26

@kimlek - no, but I've been reading his Diabetes Code so will take a look.

Flibbertyjibbit · 11/08/2020 22:38

Thanks for the warm welcome. First day tomorrow, plan is greek yog with berries and my first day of coffee with no sugar wish me luck , avocado and poached egg for lunch and the no carb ploughman's from the book for dinner. I've taken all my measurements and weight today which has only given me more a kick to stick with this!

Kimlek · 11/08/2020 23:24

Oats are really not a great idea! The issue I have with fast800 recipe book (don’t have the initial fast800 explanation book) is that it’s only for 2 weeks so the recipes are more 5:2 and giving you ideas for your non fast days. A lot are high calorie & not so low carb. Don’t get me wrong I cook a fair bit from the recipe book but I’m very aware of the macros in it. I started the this world with the 8 week BSD (so have that initial book plus the recipe book) and I think the parameters are stricter, which is useful to get up to speed with the concepts quickly. I think this woe will be tricky for vegans BUT research Keto vegan recipes and ideas as that’s the same principle.

Kimlek · 11/08/2020 23:26

World= Woe

Kimlek · 11/08/2020 23:28

We need a new thread and I know I said I’d start it but I don’t know how to link stuff!!

ThePawtriarchy · 12/08/2020 05:01

I’ve been eating the oat and pear porridge from the Fast 800 book but kind like it’s not a good idea?

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/08/2020 06:51

@ThePawtriarchy

I’ve been eating the oat and pear porridge from the Fast 800 book but kind like it’s not a good idea?
How many carbs are in it do we know? I’m researching low carb every day and learning every day and it seems to me that the main requirement of this WOE is the fast of you want to achieve weight loss. So I can imagine the oats breakfast might be acceptable (depends on portion) as long as the associated insulin spike is contained.

Do for example if you had overnight oats with full fat Greek yogurt and berries for breakfast and a protein lunch, say omlette with salad for lunch and then fasted from 1pm onwards. I think you’d lose weight. But if you had three meals in that day I’m not sure. I linked to a fantastic Fung video last night on buntings thread where Dr Fung explained about your bodies reaction to 1200 calories eaten during a small window and 1200 cals eaten in small amounts across the day. Those small insulin spikes across a day is just not allowing your fat to get burned. So it’s very much a balancing act with low carb. Low carb alone is not the panacea.
