very - really good to hear you've seen the same improvements. I'm at the start of perimenopause and also used to massively overeat carbs and sugar. I think my worst ever hormonal Saturday consisted of one large bag of Kettle Chips, a large bar of Dairy Milk, a whole tub of Haagen Dazs and a bag of supermarket bakery cookies smeared with Nutella (and I ate the rest of the jar with a teaspoon). No wonder I was feeling rubbish!!

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 31/07/2018 22:21

Excellent! Thank you for the replies!! Sorry, it's been a busy day and wasn't able to come back.

I've been trying to stick to meal times but have often been presented with a croissant at breakfast and my resistance has failed me - we are staying with my Mum in France and the kids love to go to the Boulangerie Blush I am sure I have gained weight and am rather bloated at the moment.

I'm really looking forward to getting home (I live in Germany) and getting back into a better routine.

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 31/07/2018 22:23

Oh and your food posts look delicious!! Is there a BSD recipe thread here somewhere?

Oh and congratulations on the loss change! This is all making me very excited to crack on!

Bear. I will bookmark that article and give it a proper read. Thank you so much for the help already!!

waterandlemonjuice · 31/07/2018 23:26

Hello everyone. Thanks for the new thread.
I was going to start tomorrow but I've had food poisoning for over a week now and so have been told to eat bland foods e.g. Toast. So all I've had today is 4 pieces of toast.
On the bright side, food poisoning is ideal for getting into the habit of not eating as I haven't really eaten much for about 10 days. Dh reckons I've lost a lot of weight - but I have a lot further to go so won't get too excited.

waterandlemonjuice · 31/07/2018 23:26

I've got a BSD recipe book arriving tomorrow too

waterandlemonjuice · 31/07/2018 23:30

nounderpants - I've done low carb before and it's generally very easy if eating out: just choose meat or fish and veg and ignore the bread basket or chips and ignore pudding. Have cheese instead if you're still hungry.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/08/2018 07:29

I bought this recipe book online after flicking through it in a bookshop but it hasn’t arrived yet
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/191090497X

It had some good recipes in. I don’t really use the BSD recipe book much these days but every time i hear it mentioned I remember that some of the things are really nice in there! Once you get in the swing of it, you’ll find a lot of recipes can be just tweaked to fit. I love Jamie Oliver’s recipe books and cook loads from there.

Hope you feel better soon water.
Nounderpants you are in the land of meat and cheese! Perfect BSD location, if you can avoid the bread (my dc think it’s hilarious that my favourite food is bread and butter- but it has to be real French bread with real butter.....in France, by myself, probably with wine )

Have a salad at Nandos, Bear. You can add chicken or halloumi or extra avocado. I usually have the supergrain with chicken and it comes in at under 500 calories. There are less calorifuc options too. Their website has nutritional info for all their food. I find it the easiest place to eat out!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/08/2018 08:00

Thanks for the tip amazing, I will have a look at the menu before I go I think, and decide prior so I’m not tempted by the non BSD offerings!

13 6.8 this morning. Going in the right direction! Thanks again whoever suggested the Libra app - I love seeing my target date get closer!

onanothertrain · 01/08/2018 09:21

Amazing - could you post the recipe for your lentil and goats cheese salad please. It sounds lovely.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 01/08/2018 10:44

I was just typing it up for a friend!

Here's a better copy! I've just logged on to Mumsnet on a PC for the first time in several years. So much easier. Today's lunchtime salad is going to be a copy of the M&S super green salad which is apple, cucumber, spinach and coriander. Think I'll have it with bacon. I'll report back with pictures!

Lentil and Goats Cheese Salad

Serves 4. 322 cals, 22g carbs per portion.

1 can green lentils
40g wholewheat giant couscous (dry weight)
100g petit pois
80g goats cheese
1 yellow pepper
40g sun dried tomatoes
handful of flat leaf parsley

Dressing

3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tbsp white wine vinegar
1/2 tbsp lime juice
½ tsp garlic puree or a bit of chopped garlic
½ tsp dried oregano
1/2tsp dried basil
1 tsp honey
salt and pepper

Cook and cool the couscous and peas. Drain and rinse the lentils. Finely chop the pepper, parsley and sundried tomatoes. Whisk dressing ingredients together. Mix everything except the goats cheese. Blob the goats cheese on top.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 01/08/2018 11:57

Today's lunch - m&s style supergreen salad. Really delicious.

Better photo with bacon. I promise it is green not yellow!

Looks delicious and healthy Amazing, you are really doing well, under 13 stone by September is looking easy. I have PCOS too Bear and am very very hairy, no other problems though other than the obvious conceiving took a while. Opposite end of the spectrum now, period has come 2 weeks early. Looks like the menopause is well under way. Mushrooms for breakfast, smoked mackerel fillet and salad leaves for lunch. Fresh sardines for dinner with couscous, beetroot, asparagus, bit weird I know. Cleaning the fridge today, very satisfying.

Oblomov18 · 01/08/2018 15:09

Just checking in. Still on holiday. Feeling very bloated and fat.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 01/08/2018 15:49

But are you having a good time, Ob?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/08/2018 16:15

Hope you’re having a good time Oblomov and not being too hard on yourself. Flowers

Nando’s was pleasantly surprising- I had chicken thighs, macho peas, and super grain salad. All delicious. Rather calorific (I’m going to trust my app and it says 935 for that little lot) but it could have been significantly worse. We went next door to a pudding bar (basically sells only desserts!) and while dd had a waffle and ice cream I drank a latte! So feel very virtuous actually.

My new diabetes cook book has arrived so I’m heading out into the sunshine to read it for a bit and will hopefully use it to plan my menu for the week after my holiday so I can hit the ground running when I get back!

Tonight's supper. Had it with a tin of tuna. Really good too. Just call me Queen of Salads.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 01/08/2018 17:55

Or salad bore. Either is fine Grin

DandelionAndBedrock · 01/08/2018 18:48

Queen of Salads is a great title!

We're back from our holiday. I caved and joined DP in a (whole Blush) pizza from a new place that has opened up. I will weigh in tomorrow morning in blissful ignorance as to how much weight is pizza and how much is unavoidable holiday weight. Feeling pretty bloated after it.

My jeans were still comfy on the plane, though, so hopefully haven't done any irreversible damage.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/08/2018 20:49

I’ve ended up eating rather too much this evening. All BSD friendly but it’s the quantity I’ve had that’s the problem. ie. lots!
I blame the supergrains. I never eat quinoa or other grains, and that seems to have awoken my munchies. And my hormones are partly responsible too.

I must must have a rest day tomorrow from running. I did 9km this morning and feel creaky this evening. I am feeling very ‘woe is me’ can you tell??!

Amazing your salads look immense- I particularly struggle with dressings if you have any you can recommend? I usually just buy shop bought (which is very naughty) or use balsamic and oil but I’d love some fresh ideas if you have any?

Changeisneeded · 01/08/2018 21:20

The salads look yummy!

It's interesting about the changes in terms of PCOS - I have never fully been diagnosed with it but I suspect I have it (and scan suggested it).

I went out for food with friends this evening and there was not much on the menu that was bsd friendly so I did my best and tomorrow is a new day!

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 01/08/2018 21:55

To make the dressings I wrote down the ingredients on the m&s packet and made it up! They're mostly like the one I posted earlier based on 3 tbsp olive oil, 1/2 tbsp vinegar and 1/2 a tbsp juice but I've been trying variations in herbs and vinegar and citrus. So lime/lemon/orange juice, red wine/white wine/rice vinegar, parsley/basil/coriander. Add garlic puree, ginger puree or mustard and you've got quite a few combinations. Bit of salt and pepper. The one I had at lunch time had dried turmeric and oregano in it. I think the key is to cut everything really small and let it sit in the dressing in the fridge for an hour before you eat it. Even better if you can leave it to the next day! I have a couple of tubs of leftovers in the fridge so I can see how long they last.

I should confess that I am the person who did a 3 month long experiment on which chicken went the furthest, trying 6 different ones from 3 supermarkets!

Another excellent day today. Closing the kitchen on 832 cal, 44g carbs. Averaged 811 cal and 53g carbs so far this week and I feel excellent really well fuelled and even moods. It's been a mental battle at points but I have not had any real hunger.
