Morning all, quick update on my carb count, in response to the question I asked on 29/03 about how many carbs I should be aiming for, and your replies.

Sticking to 800 calories or under for the past week, I've been in the range 30-47g carbs each day.

I'm not feeling particularly hungry either, and my clothes do seem to be a bit looser. All in all I'm very positive about this WOE Smile.

Commuterface · 04/04/2018 12:59

Hi thenewaveragebear1983 thanks for the warm welcome. I downloaded The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet by Dr Michael Mosley some time ago but haven't actually looked at it yet Blush - is that the one you are referring to?

I haven't done low carb before - I absolutely love carbs so I know this is going to be a very difficult thing for me to crack.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/04/2018 13:18

Yes that’s the one, it’s got everything you need to get you started in there, and isn’t too strenuous/scientific

X-ray that’s great, I’ve seen you on the other thread you post on too and you seem to be doing really well!

very great result with the trousers - well done1
Oblomov your peppers look lovely and delicious.
Welcome Chocoholic and Commuter. I'm perimenopausal and BSD seems to work well when I follow it properly
We're seeing friends today and tomorrow so food will probably be eaten and alcohol may be drunk. I need to try to get my calories back down. I'm averaging about 1000 which would be fine if I was maintaining but really I need to lose a few pounds that have crept on because I'm so sedentary just now.

XRayYankee · 04/04/2018 14:18

Thank you thenewaveragebear1983.

So far I'm doing fine, I input my planned meals into mfp first thing, and I find that helps me keep on track.

Luckily there are two supermarkets, a couple of butchers and a greengrocers within walking distance, so I am able to plan and do bits of extra shopping a couple of times a week, if I need to. I think it would be much more difficult if I could not rely on fresh produce always being relatively cheap and easily available.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/04/2018 19:17

Not sure what’s happened today, in theory it’s gone well, but I’ve gone waaaaaay over on calories. All food on plan though; I’m just in holiday mode i guess. Had a bag of peanuts at the cinema which was my only indulgence, and realised after that they were 300 cals!

So..... closing kitchen on 1530 Blush, carbs 75g. 14k steps, and I did run 7.5k this morning (outside as well, so it was hard work! )

I haven’t started yet. I need to make sure all the Easter eggs are gone first! My main problem is sweet things I have a serious chocolate addiction! When I try to cut it out I will compensate with anything else that’s sweet. So I’m hoping this diet will help with the sugar addiction but I know I will struggle in the beginning.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/04/2018 20:20

Chocoholic (you’ll need a new username after the 8 weeks!) - it is tough at first, but you’ll feel so much better. My tips would be to really strive to cut out all sweet tasting foods (so really cut back on fruit as well, and sweetener etc) and Also to have some really strong tasting things in the fridge- my go to things are olives, blue cheese, things like that, for when you’re tempted. I find it hard to crave chocolate when my mouth tastes of olives! (Whereas for example nuts or peanut butter make me still want chocolate). If you’re really feeling, like so many of us on the thread over the months, that you are totally addicted, trust me, it’s so liberating when you manage without!

Chocoholic686 · 04/04/2018 21:46

Thanks thenewaveragebear1983 I’m really hoping I can do it! My meals overall are quite healthy it’s just the chocolate!

Oblomov18 · 05/04/2018 10:05

I did myself a big breakfast today. I didn't really want to, and wasn't hungry, but things needed using up.
Or maybe I should have just thrown them away? What do you think?

Anyway it was 222 calories. Which seems like a lot/ a bit of a waste? Easter Hmm

Hello everyone. I'm back! Had a few weeks sort of off plan but still no bread, pasta, rice etc. Definitely over calories though and more than a few easter eggs, but am now in the right headspace to get back on it.

I found posting on here regularly really inspiring and helped with accountability so here goes.

Yesterday I managed 645 cals and 'earned' 325 calories at the gym (fasted) but didn't eat them. Still fasting, just about to head to Pret to buy some lunch. Did lots of batch cooking yesterday so have lots of easy lunches - but of course forgot to bring lunch to work today! Doh.

Does anyone else use MFP and fancy adding each other?

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 05/04/2018 12:45

Oblomov I always struggle with whether to use food up or bin it but generally I try to use it up. I think your breakfast looks nice.
Today is our second day with friends. I completely forgot to log yesterday but I'm guessing I was over on cals and carbs.
Welcome back Aromatic ! I use my phone for tracking rather than MFP.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/04/2018 20:11

Back home after our few days away. I have stuck pretty well to the plan but have exceeded calories both days, by a fair amount.

Today is the end of the tax year, Dh has stopped being a grouchy miserable arse and had come home in a jovial mood and with wine. So taking that on board, it looks like I’ll end the day on:
1500 cals, 58g carbs. I’ve done 16.5k steps (including 5k run).
So it looks like my plans to have a strict 8 weeks might be modified to be plans for a strict 7 weeks- it’s too hard with the dc off school, I can’t just ignore food like I try to normally! Plus I’m out tomorrow night with friends. We’re going for tapas, which I’ve never had before- will it be BSD friendly (relatively?).

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 05/04/2018 21:13

4 weeks after finishing and it's been a bit up and down, but I'm more or less still at my end weight. Also, a belt I bought a month ago and had to have an extra hole made not only now fits on the first 'real' hole, but actually had to go down to the next hole today. Super pleased with that!

bridgetreilly · 05/04/2018 21:15

Bear, I think tapas is a good choice for BSD. You can pick and choose from a lot of options so it's easy to get protein and veg without carbs, and the portions aren't huge either.

TheLegendOfBeans · 05/04/2018 21:30

I just totalled up what I used to typically eat in a day and I've realised I'm dropping my daily intake by THREE THOUSAND Shock calories.

No wonder I've lost almost a kilo in the first 48h alone Shock

Also; never thought chicken salad with butterbeans would ever float my boat. Cracking it was x

Chocoholic686 · 05/04/2018 22:21

What does everyone use to track their calories? Do you use MFP or something else?

AromaticSpices · 05/04/2018 22:44

I use MFP choc. Someone on the fb group recommended Nutracheck but I couldn’t remember my apple password to download it... Hmm

MFP works well though! Can see good nutritional breakdowns. One slightly annoying thing is that if you’re sticking to lower than 1200 calories a day, it doesn’t show you a weight loss prediction or allow it to post publicly because they don’t want to encourage eating disorders...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/04/2018 22:55

I use the delightfully named ‘fat secret’ - never clicked with mfp.

OP posts:
TheLegendOfBeans · 06/04/2018 06:41

I hate MFP, dunno why but NutraCheck is working well for me x

Oblomov18 · 06/04/2018 08:12

I use MFP.
Find it really easy.

XRayYankee · 06/04/2018 10:03

I have MFP here, as well. Just the standard free app, no paid-for add-ons or upgrades. It works for me Smile.

yumyumpoppycat · 06/04/2018 10:15

I use MFP because I have used it the most often it is easiest for me because I can use frequently eaten items etc, I have tried fat secret and a couple of others but always give up on them because it's easier to stick with MFP at this stage. It is sometimes inaccurate but when I consistently fill it in I lose weight so something is working!

Wow well done Legend, amazing how quickly calories can add up but on the flip side how 800 can get a decent amount of healthy food if being careful.

AromaticSpices · 06/04/2018 11:53

Does anyone else have the problem with logging too few calories? I want a nice weight loss projection! :(

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/04/2018 12:16

Yes, I do, AromaticSpices. So I add two sausages to mfp, get my projection, add a bit extra in my mind, and then delete the sausages. Not very accurate but it's better than nothing for me Grin
