I'm not doing very well.
All week I've eaten nothing during the day. Liquid diet only. Water, flavoured water, tea, a few diet cokes.

A miso soup sachet for lunch. 21 calories.

But then in the evening, after having a main meal: curry and cauliflower rice; quiche (cutting off the pastry, because I don't like it - you can buy a crust-less quiche from Sainsbury's, but what I really want is a supermarket pastry- less quiche. And I don't think anywhere sells them! Angry) and salad, or gammon and peas, beans and broccoli.

But then proceeded to have 2 glasses of red wine, 2 packets of square crisps and 8 squares of nut chocolate.

So not 21 calories. 1274 Sad

Another day survived.

Does anyone else feel like this has completely taken over their lives? I shopped on Sunday, then again on Tuesday, then yesterday. Admittedly, I don't have the biggest fridge so need to take that into account when buying mountains of veg, but it's never ending!

I'm thinking of food all the time, not really because I'm hungry, just because making 3 meals a day from scratch is pretty time-consuming and quite a few require the-night-before preparation.

I've scrolled up to look at the photos posted and have a few questions if that's ok?

Oblomov for your crustless quiche, do you just beat a few eggs with some chopped ham and cheese and bake it in a silicone muffin tin? It looks delicious!

bear I'm salivating at that chicken and broccoli cheese! Do you make the cheese sauce with creme fraiche and grated cheese?

very I'm definitely putting lettuce tacos on the menu for next week.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone.

Also, a few days I've planned are quite a few calories under the 800. Should I try to make it up or just let it even out over the course of the week when some days are nearer 900?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/04/2018 10:53

Hi square, I do the broccoli cheese with just a tub of full fat cream cheese (some of the Philadelphia ones have garlic/herbs etc too), and grate some cheddar in and on the top. I’ve done it before with Stilton too. Using a whole cauliflower and a whole broccoli, I can make and freeze about 8 portions from it and it does freeze reasonably well.

Do you have a freezer? If so, I find the birds eye steam fresh bag (or supermarkets own equivalent) really useful, one of those has an ample portion of veg and then doesn’t take over your fridge! Asda do ones with garlic butter on as well. It is hard to keep on top of your meals especially if you’re cooking for family too. I freeze all the meat I buy and defrost daily what I need for the next day, which stops me straying from the plan as well.

I had a rubbish night last night, woke at 3.30 and pretty much didn’t go back to sleep. I’m determined to go for a run before I eat, so off out to do that now, but I know tiredness is my biggest foe on this plan, so just be careful today not to end up grazing.

Sorry to hear things aren't going well, Oblomov. But keep it in perspective - 1274 calories are still way less than average. I hope today is better! We've all had those days.

Higgidy do a crustless quiche you can get at Ocado (and maybe elsewhere?). Not cheap cheap but often on special, and absolutely delicious. It's a spinach, feta, and red pepper one. Fairly low carb too. I think it's only that flavour that comes as crustless though, and there is still wheat in it, just not very much. It doesn't have a pastry bottom, though, I'm pretty sure, so maybe it would work for you?

squid there's also this recipe for vietnamese lamb cups that are basically some mince, some spice, some peanuts and other spices, scooped and eaten in lettuce leaves. It's absolutely delicious and very fast and kid-friendly; everyone else can have it with rice to bulk it out.

And yes, one thing I hate about this is that I'm having to plan and think about food so much, esp as so many fast options are off limits now. Between the planning and the recording food eaten on MFP, it's just way more prep than I expected.

On the other hand, for me, having to plan a packed lunch and snacks for every work day is definitely a money saver, as is going (mostly) off the wine, so I guess it has benefits beyond weight loss/health improvement, even if I have to plan more than I used to.

bear happy running!

sheepishly walks back into the BSD club room....

Hi all, back from a 2 week hol in France. Nuff said.

Not been brave enough to weigh myself. Working up to that.

Suffice to say I'm back on the wagon today

londonista · 14/04/2018 11:58

How's everyone else getting on? Really need some inspiration. I'm definitely thinking of taking on a mindfulness challenge as well as more exercise. It will definitely helps me stick to it.

veryveryquietly · 14/04/2018 13:06

hey londonista welcome back from being a franconista - hope it was a lovely holiday, and holidays are too short for calorie counting.

SquareEyedSqu1d · 14/04/2018 15:41

Thanks for the recipes/advice, bear and very

Bonjour, Londonista, you lucky thing! Hopefully the lovely weather we've been promised here may encourage you to get back in the saddle - the thought of exposing my cottage cheese-like calves to the sun should it reach 25 degrees is enough to make me toe the line.

Actually, mentioning toes reminds me I ought to paint my toenails in case I can wear sandals next week. Perhaps I will find it easier to reach if some lard has been burnt off my middle? Smile

Oblomov18 · 14/04/2018 17:58

Paneer and courgette curry.
i.e. using up what was in the fridge.

Oooh that looks nice oblomov, is paneer that Indian curd cheese? What did you do with it?

I’ve had a busy day. I decided that rather than spend all day struggling I’m just going to go with it, and have declared ‘free for all’ on any high protein food. So I boiled some eggs, have eaten ham and chicken, etc as snacks and at meals. I’m due on and I can just feel the carb cravings, plus tiredness, and if I’m honest my dc are driving me bonkers and I can’t wait for school to go back on Monday. Obviously food doesn’t help that, but I think it does offer some small relief!

I ran 6k this morning though, that should offset some of it, and I’m hoping to do 10k tomorrow. I keep getting a stitch which although it sounds silly, is really impeding my running at the moment.

I'm away to the gym in a wee bit for the first time in a week.
As a PP said above, this diet can be demanding of your time - meal planning plus prep plus toddler and baby and gym in the evening means I'm struggling and actually missing my evenings with DH (where we used to eat many crisps + sweeties for shame).

Today's plan: IKEA, then home to make crab cakes, falafels and things to eat in lettuce leaves.

I want to feel stronger and leaner. Right now I've got a grotty cold and feel permanently tired.

Grump over.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/04/2018 11:38

Does anyone feel like they’re just lurching from one weekend to the next at the moment??! I seem to have Thursday, Friday, Saturday going a bit totally off the rails and then spend the week clawing back! This has got to stop!!

Just been for a run, (smashed my previous 10k time coming in at 55mins, so I’m pretty chuffed with that!) and had the standard weekend brunch of avocado, bacon and cheese. Gammon and veg tonight for dinner, no snacks in between. Lots of water- and hopefully this is the way the week will continue. I definitely need to work at reducing my ‘weekend’ down to one day off plan, rather than 3 or even 4 which it sometimes is!

Made it to the gym this morning - again just treadmill, but better than nothing.

Now I'm craving paneer oblomov!

DandelionAndBedrock · 15/04/2018 14:18

I'm following the online recipes and spent an hour or two this morning prepping stuff after my Ocado shop came. Seeing some of the things everyone is posting is making me quite excited though. I've got my gym bag packed to take to work, so no coming home and talking myself out of it.

I'm a bit apprehensive about committing to 3 proper meals a day. I have issues with food and self control, and am getting stressed at the thought of allowing myself to eat so regularly.
