Yes house 6lbs in 5 days! Amazing eh. Have been 100% on plan.

Went a smidge over today though, had a mushroom and courgette omelet for dinner but think I had too much cheese (I forgot to weigh it, whoops!). I estimated it as 150g worth so logged that. Takes me to 904 cals for the day.

Am proud of myself because it was 3 colleagues birthdays over the weekend and there was so much chocolate and cake on the bench right next to me and I didn’t have any of it. I just knew if I had a small bit I would just go mad and eat loads of it. I struggle to find my off switch with choc. It seems I can resist it ok though if I really try

yumyumpoppycat · 09/04/2018 23:34

Well done aromatic!

Aplace it's really complicated - I agree with Very if anyone should be able to take a break it's you - but it sounds like you are at the stage now where you aren't enjoying the break anymore - at least you can have a few false starts before the holidays are over by trying to get back on it sooner.

Had a good day cals wise but not carbs - my planned late lunch/early dinner of chicken and veg was in a glass pyrex that exploded in the oven ...so I had a cheese toastie with avocado.

SquareEyedSqu1d · 10/04/2018 08:30

Morning everyone!

I survived my first day Smile I had apple, mango and hazelnut yogurt, beetroot falafels and a chicken breast with lettuce, spring onion and cucumber. I drank loads of water and felt ok.

I didn't do many steps though. Will try to improve that today.

very and place - don't be too disheartened. Reading your successes have really inspired newbie me to try this and lose weight. Everyone has bad patches but you have to put it behind you and get back on the wagon (says me who has managed one day Wink)

Aromatic very impressed by your willpower and weight loss!

yumyum exploding pyrex? Yikes! How did that happen? I thought it was bomb proof?

Fingers crossed for good days all round...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/04/2018 08:30

Aromatic brilliant. I’m finding (as I regularly go for coffee/cake with friends and dc) that as long as I can resist for those few minutes (basically long enough to order) I am ok without the cakes. I focus on the nice feeling you’ve been having where I think ‘I went without, I don’t actually miss it’ and once they’ve eaten it we’re back on a level so to speak. The pleasure from cake/treats is exceptionally short lived, whereas the ‘feeling’ lasts all day! It’s a mindset shift isn’t it?

I’ve been invited to an afternoon tea by a very close friend in May- not sure what to do, I want to go, but the menu is basically sandwiches and delicious cakes. It’s also £15 a head, plus alcohol/prosecco. Is it terribly rude to a) decline totally, or b) say I’d love to go but i don’t want to eat (or will choose something off the menu separately?) I can’t really justify £15 for a meal I won’t eat, or will eat but not actually want. Help!

Aromatic, thats fab. Do you do lots of exercise too? As bear was saying earlier, if we do this diet really, you get real results. I take small steps Wink, so, my aim is 3 consecutive days of strict 800cal days, starting today. Though have DD's friend and mum for tea in the afternoon. So, will see how that goes.
I am a strict vegetarian and don't eat egg. So, its an adventure for me to figure out interesting stuff to eat. Spices to rescue mostly

I have had so many days of way over calories that I have lost count; but, what I have found most useful is that I log all of it on MFP; sometimes its not as bad as we perceive it to be. And to me, it gives insights on what potential triggers might be.
Like yesterday, while at post office, got DD some nuts; and I just binged on it like mad; felt so so bad, I could have cried; but came home and religiously weighed and logged it on MFP; that was a whopping 470 calories Shock. At least, the carbs weren't that bad, so i told myself Smile. I really can't be trusted near nuts, I have realised. Its a bit like chocolates for me; I start with just a little and I end up finishing the lot.

bear, if she is a close friend, how about possibly suggesting having a platter of low-carb alternatives..I see some cafes offer these lettuce wraps and such..Also, saw this low carb bread on Ocado

www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Carbzone-Low-Carb-Protein-Bread/304465011?from=search&tags=%7C20000&param=low+carb&parentContainer=SEARCHlow+carb

Would there be other guests to whom it may appeal too? With sandwiches, its the bread thats the most BSD unfriendly, isn't it? I agree though, to pay 15 pounds and not eat anything feels pointless

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/04/2018 10:18

House she is a close friend. The tea will be at a local cafe, it’s a relatively small place, and they only do sandwiches, baked potatoes and things like that. I think I might have to say no food for me, because I don’t think it’s really fair to ask for changes. Makes me seem like a bit of a fun- vacuum though! All the other invitees are already thrilled about the prospect of cakes! Oddly enough, I’m quite happy to not have it but do you think it makes other people more conscious of what they are having if there’s old ‘no carbs bear’ in the corner? Especially my friend whose party it is, as she is a struggling low carb dieter? It’s playing on my mind a bit, I’d hate to spoil her party (indirectly, but still....). I shall give it some thought.

yumyumpoppycat · 10/04/2018 10:43

Bear my sister LOVES afternoon teas so even when I was mega on it with BSD I had a couple for her birthday etc - my strategy was that I would fast at breakfast then eat something like scrambled eggs directly before leaving to lower the impact on my blood sugar and enjoy the tea, prosecco a small bit of everything and let the others friends hopefully hoover up your share - hopefully it is shared cake stack plate things (wtf are they called again?!) rather than one each - usually it is that makes it easier to fudge? Then a small low carb dinner ready to heat up so no thinking about food when you get home.

Square I think the oven was a bit to high - but I googled and it seems more common with new pyrex - this was a clas ohlson version. I was so upset, glass made a right mess and was looking forward to my dinner!

yumyumpoppycat · 10/04/2018 10:44

I do find afternoon tea annoying though and wouldn't be my choice anymore.

houseRefurb · 10/04/2018 11:02

bear, cinnamon is supposed to be good to facilitate slow release of sugar.. As I guess your worry (from what you have said before in this thread) is not the calories on it's own but the subsequent cravings it might trigger?

Clotted cream, the ones they give with scones, I have found to be great. We were out recently and that was the only thing that I could find that was vegetarian and BSD friendly. So, I had tiny bits of the scone and loads of the cream, it felt very decadent and unnatural in fact!! But filling nevertheless

AromaticSpices · 10/04/2018 11:19

Yeah, not many BSD-friendly afternoon tea options. If you think you can go and not eat then go along but otherwise I'd be tempted to make up an excuse not to go and then see her another time instead for coffee...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/04/2018 12:19

Yeah it’s partly the money as well- it’s expensive if I don’t eat it! Plus I don’t really want it- I’m all for a bit of planned indulgence if I plan it and enjoy it, but it seems a bit silly to -literally- poke the bear!

OP posts:
Oblomov18 · 10/04/2018 14:50

I can't see how afternoon-tea can work BSD wise. Plus, for £15! Shock

New thread at the ready Bear?

veryveryquietly · 10/04/2018 17:01

On the other hand, prosecco is suprisingly low in calories (and carbs even!) - 500 calories and 15 gr carbs for an entire 750 ml bottle! So you can join and have a glass or two without feeling too bad.

But yes, £15 is a lot to scoop the (I agree absolutely delicious) clotted cream off the scones. Could you say that you can only join them midway through, so they should go ahead and order and have cakes and you'll just have some prosecco when you get there? And have some almonds or cheese or olives in your bag in case you desperately need a snack?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/04/2018 21:57

I might do, will have to think. I should go really. I may have to take the cake for the team.....!!

I don’t mind starting the new thread, or anyone else can?

Today has not gone as well as it could have. Closing the kitchen on 1400 cals, 81g carbs. This is entirely due to my mother bringing over ice cream and flapjack bites and wafting them around. I was cross with her, and with myself. I’ve actually had salad both meals, run 13k in two separate runs (one 6, one 7) and done a total of 22k steps. But I didn’t need ice cream and flapjacks and it makes me grrrrrr that I have done very well to remove and resist the things in my house; I don’t need people bringing them in uninvited. Does that make me sound terribly ungrateful?

Anyway- tomorrow is a new day.

OP posts:
TheLegendOfBeans · 10/04/2018 22:33

Closing this kitchen at approx 1100 calories; big things happening in the Beans house this week and I've not been as disciplined as i wanted to be namely:

  1. Failure to prep crabcakes mix by leaving in fridge, it all went to shit
  2. Turkey burgers...Couldn't food process mushrooms as babies had just gone to sleep.

As my username suggests, I'm a friend of Heinz so THANK GOD a small tin of beans & sausage comes in at a measly 196cals

lets not talk about today's wine and cappuccinos

veryveryquietly · 11/04/2018 10:17

Not ungrateful at all bear

Chocolate splurge yesterday that put me at about 1200 cals and 60 gr carbs. Whoopsie. Work stress again. But somehow, after a weekend's splurging and recriminations, at this morning's weigh-in I"ve knocked off another 2 lb in the past week. I no longer understand anything.

Big step last night: I joined the gym. It's been a while (about 4 years) and while I was bigger than I am now last time I went, I'm still very anxious about going. It's the one most convenient to my house, but it is full of lovely (if slightly orange) young things whereas I am a pale, perimenopausal super-sized blob. Perhaps they will see me as a cautionary tale.

veryveryquietly · 11/04/2018 10:26

oh and beans, if you are in a similar situation again, my default thing with ground turkey is to cook it up as you would any mince, but add taco or fajita seasoning while you do. (ground turkey is so incredibly bland that it desperately needs spices.) Then make soft 'tacos' by putting the meat filling, some cheese, some sour cream/creme fraiche/plain yogurt, some salsa and some veg (sauteed courgette is a good one) in lettuce leaves. Very fast, and also kid-friendly - you can heat up tortillas for them and have lettuce leaves for yourself.

veryveryquietly · 11/04/2018 10:35

Hey squid how's it coming? The first week is awful, hang in there. I was on the verge of bloody murder all the time. Headachey, constipated, grouchy, sleepy, cold, all of it. Drink as much water as you can. Lots of flavourful hot fruit tea (well, technically, infusions) really helped me: warm, slightly sweet without any real calories, kept me occupied when I wanted to snack, and hydrating.

TheLegendOfBeans · 11/04/2018 17:06

Thanks for the tip @veryveryquietly that's a huge help.

So another bad day today with a huge carb fest at lunch, one of these things where at a table of six everyone gets something to share and it's all fucking carbs and sugar.

Days like today will be rare and I also had chocolate given to me today that I skipped back into the givers drawer, untouched.

Will go swimming tonight to try my level best to be more holy. I hate going off piste and being annoyed with myself.

Week 2 proving v v hard so far

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2018 17:55

Ah legend, I think week two is often tricky because the novelty has worn off a bit, and your body starts to fight back a bit too, weakening your resolve. Hang on in there, enjoy your swim!

I’ve had a good day today, closing the kitchen now on 1150, 25g carbs. I did a short run (4.5k) after doing so much yesterday, and have done about 12k steps. I started the day with kippers and butter which was definitely high fat, low carb. Surprisingly filling , although I found the pin bones too annoying to make it a diet staple. Then tonight we’ve had spicy chicken and salad, plus I’ve had yoghurt and raspberries. All very nice, feel full now- but I’m finding the evenings hard through tiredness I think, so must really try to avoid pm picking tonight.

Thanks for asking, very

It's going well for the moment. I was headachey and lacking energy yesterday, and the grim weather here didn't exactly tempt me out for a bike ride with DS as I'd planned.

Ate three meals from the book and have been doing as you've suggested with drinking lots of water and fruit "tea" (I have to put it in commas or my northern, tea-guzzling husband gets shirty Wink). I've managed with no snacks but did have the tiniest bit of orange juice in one glass of water.

Pretty much the same today but felt less headachey and had enough energy to walk 13,000 steps around Legoland, so a definite improvement!

Thanks for the pep talk.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/04/2018 08:41

Weighed in this morning at 11.0.0 so tantalisingly close to the 10’s! These last few weeks have been very slow for me, with lots of ups and downs and according to Fitbit I’m only 3lb lower today than I was on 15th March. I’ve had some losses, but they have countered gains, and I only enter losses on my graph!

However, another good few days could see me at 10-something so that will spur me on now for the weekend. Lots of water, 800 cal rest day today, and let’s see what the weekend brings!!

OP posts:
TheLegendOfBeans · 12/04/2018 09:27

I'm back up to 78.8kg so feeling quite down but I know it's directly related to past 48h misdemeanors.

If it can pop on at such speed then I hope that being disciplined from now will make it come off just as fast.

veryveryquietly · 12/04/2018 09:52

Went to the gym yesterday! Walking on the treadmill, but it's a start.

squid another saviour for me has been a drizzle of juice in sparkling water. Tastes like a fizzy drink, not like watered down juice.

Hang in there legend bear everyone!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/04/2018 20:29

Gah! Had a brilliant day today, shake for lunch, 30 day shred, no snacks.....all set for an 800 day and then, as if by magic, wine appeared, then chocolate. And willpower disappeared in a puff of smoke!

So I’m ending the day on 1800 cals, still under tdee but not by much, and a whopping 98g carbs.... and my dreams of being in the tens have been shelved at least til Saturday.

I’m my own worst enemy!

Tomorrow I’m running 10k, got my route all planned, so at least I know those carbs will be put to good use. However, I am surprised at how readily I sabotaged myself after being so determined to finally get there this weekend!
