Haha good thinking Penelope I'll try that!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/04/2018 14:10

Oooh mine doesn’t do a projection, although it does do a continuous line on the graph (so I suppose is showing rate of future weight loss). It does allow me to set my calories limit to 800 though, although I actually don’t because I like to see it ‘low’!

OP posts:
Oblomov18 · 06/04/2018 14:16

Mine is set to 800

AromaticSpices · 06/04/2018 16:29

I've set mine to 800 also. I have linked up the steps function from my iphone, so can see the calories I 'gain' from exercise. I try not to eat them though!

veryveryquietly · 06/04/2018 20:10

I get the 'You're not eating enough" message as well and MFP refuses to predict.

But today I had a chocolate splurge which took me over 1000 cals (still under 40 gr carbs though, so go figure). Amazingly, MFP stopped scolding me for not eating enough and instead it told me if everyday is like today, I'll lose a stone in 5 weeks. So I guess 1000 cals is the lower limit for projections?

Of course I see the value in that, as it shouldn't project for lower intakes for fear of encouraging people prone to eating disorders.

(Oh, and well, a little chocolate splurge won't kill me. At least everything else was healthy and on target!)

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Mine will probably be more BSD-compliant now that there's no Easter chocolate remaining in the house Blush

veryveryquietly · 06/04/2018 20:11

Oh and I wish I could lose a stone in 5 weeks. But I fear my metabolism is getting used to BSD levels of intake so it won't be that fast. Time to up my activity levels.

houseRefurb · 06/04/2018 23:43

I use MFP. I find it very useful and easy to use.
As for projections, Here is what I do sometimes.
If you set "Track exercise calories" "On" and

Add dummy food of say, 'x' calories, to get it to the 1000 cal Mark and
Add dummy exercise for 'x' calories..

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/04/2018 23:47

Yes, mine is also set to 800, and, yes, 1000 is the lower limit for it to give you projections. That's what mine does anyway.

Thinking of buying a treadmill. We have a cold unused room that can be put to better use. Any recommendations for treadmill model/ make? What are the things to look for? Thanks

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2018 00:26

House our treadmill is the cheapest of the ‘proper’ mechanical treadmills at Decathlon, it was about £300. It’s really good- has various programs or you can just change the speed yourself, it has an incline function. We couldn’t see any benefits to paying more, especially as we had never used one before. I would honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought, I love it!

Morning all.

Tapas was amazing, totally BSD friendly. Had a few gin and slimline and a red wine. I did have a dessert though, but that’s ok.

Dh is out with the children today, so I am doing my 2 favourite things: running with my friend, and cleaning my house! All good for the step count.

This week has been a write off though in terms of weight loss- I’ve eaten well (and other than last night didn’t have any real carbs/sugar) but I’ve not quite hit the mark calories wise. You know when you feel a bit like you’re floundering? Feel like I’ve done well but then when I look at the totals I’ve gone way over, or haven’t measured properly. It’s hard with the dc off, and I think by having chocolate last weekend, it’s been hard to get back into the BSD mindset. Supermarket today anyway for a big shop, so I will plan a good menu and aim for a good week on plan!

Thanks, bear. I am inspired by your 200k record. [ smile ]
Do Decathlon have them on display? And what is the difference, between a "mechanical" and a non mechanical one?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2018 10:15

Not sure if ‘mechanical’ is an official term, but I mean the ones like in a gym (so I’ve heard!) where you press a button and the belt moves, rather than some of the cheaper ones the belt is powered by the runner. Some of those are about 50-100 pounds.

The decathlon by is had them on display, all we wanted to know was that it didn’t feel too flimsy, because obviously you do need it to feel sturdy. I’ll see if I can link to our one.

Gah - had some rather uninspired carbs last night. Headache this morning. Been tired and lethargic this week. Not sure if thats the carbs or the cals. But definitely carbs didnt help!

SquareEyedSqu1d · 07/04/2018 16:38

I'd like to join in please? I'm starting the BSD on Monday and have been reading these threads for inspiration.

I've read the book, cleared the cupboard, taken some hideous photos, measured all the wobbly bits, planned the week's meals, spent a fortune in Sainsbury's and cooked the rhubarb compote.

Anything I've forgotten?

Am 14 stone and hope to lose weight and sleep better.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2018 17:12

Hi square, welcome! You sound good to go. Are you following the book recipes/menu plan or are you free-styling?

On the treadmill topic, looks like there are folding ones, like

www.johnlewis.com/reebok-z-power-treadmill-black/p3125539

Are these any good?

TIA

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2018 18:42

That looks a bit more fancy than mine house, I suppose like anything - you get what you pay for? We really didn’t know if we’d use it so didn’t want to spend too much. We haven’t really used the special features and programmes on ours, it might be worth seeing what actually we got for the money. If I could add any feature to mine it would be to set my own programmes (or at least to programme my own speeds into pre-existing programmes) rather than having to manually do it while actually running, and also some sort of usb plug and speakers built in so I didn’t have to wear headphones. I bet both of these are available but are probably expensive! I’d imagine some allow you to program users into it so it calculates your calorie burn accurately (ours is often +1/3 what Fitbit says)

Just said to Dh that tonight is the last night of ‘holiday mode’- we’ll have a glass of wine tonight and nice food (still BSD, but not calorie counting) but then I’m getting back on it properly from tomorrow. I feel very ‘chaotic’ at the moment, I think I’m doing it, but I’m just playing at it really, and it’s showing on the scales. Ironically, my body is literally Shrinking, despite losing no weight- I’ve lost another inch off my bra back measurement and tried on a few pairs of jeans which I had designated ‘very wishful thinking’ and they almost fit. So I must be breaking even somewhere, but need to weigh and measure and count properly to get a loss. My mantra needs to be ‘if you sort of do it, it sort of works. But if you really do it, it really works!!’

OP posts:
houseRefurb · 07/04/2018 19:10

bear, I really like your mantra...

I am rather embarassed to confess that over the 6 weeks or so of being on BSD, I have done only about a handful of 800cal days. And unsurprisingly, just around 6kg lost.
I have another 7-8 kg to lose to get to the healthy weight range.

Got to really do it!!

About your scale measurements,
You might be toning up? , Given that you are doing a lot of exercise, building muscle mass probably.. Hence the nothing-to-show on scales, but inches lost?

About treadmill, I will look up those features and how much extra it's going to cost.. Especially being able to set up your own program can be pretty useful.

Can I ask, did you consider width / Length? I am just under 5ft 4in. So, not very long strides.

yumyumpoppycat · 07/04/2018 19:25

Welcome square you sound very organised -good luck with first week!

I am jealous of your tapas Bear - my favourite thing to eat I think! I have stayed the same this week and absolutely shattered today so didn't even exercise - not too bad on cals though.

House - treadmill doesn't look a lot smaller folded. I would only get it if you have space to keep it out and it is just a bonus that it folds. Any time we have got big folding things like that, but shouldn't have for space reasons, we have regretted it! I have a pilates machine (dp got it for me from a shopping channel because it was apparently so easy to fold up and put away) and it basically lives in a cupboard as so heavy to get in and out - I have used it once in about 10 years Blush we also have an annoying football table with nowhere good to live. DP has a huge crosstrainer - it has a box room it lives in and just stays out and that's fine and he uses it a lot (although now an issue as ds's don't want to share bedroom anymore so we may need the room back!). I use dvds, online workouts and have weights in a corner by the sofa which are easy and I use a lot, I also have a step and pullup bar which fold down and go away - but they don't get used as much as they should either tbh as can't be bothered getting them out Blush I think exercise needs to be as easy as possible.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2018 20:01

To be honest, unless you’re looking at the super fancy models, the running surface seemed to be pretty similar in size. It’s the width of the belt not the length that seems to be the key feature, so maybe just check that. I did find I ran oddly at first and had a sore knee for a few weeks and had to consciously adjust my gait as I was running to accommodate the size of the belt and over compensating.

We do fold ours, but it’s in our ‘cat room’ /utility room and if we didn’t fold it we’d find all 3 of them sleeping on it all the time. It takes about 2 seconds to unfold and fold away. It definitely needs to become a habit though, and I think in order for that you need to really push it. I did ‘run every day’ January so even if I just did a few minutes I tried to do something every day. My Fitbit really helped motivate me too.

And house, I also rarely do 800 calories- but when I do, I do get the good losses. It’s not 1st round for me so I try to do 800 on 2 days and 1100 on running days, but looking back over the weeks it isn’t actually happening like that. I do find sometimes I need to regroup and have a word with myself to get back on the straight and narrow. This is the longest run I’ve gone without sugar and really trying to keep the carbs low, but i definitely feel a bit of burn-out happening so I shall spend tomorrow planning and thinking about what I’m going to do for the next 6 weeks or so.

That's funny Bear on another thread a poster's cat was always up to mischief on the treadmill!

SquareEyedSqu1d · 07/04/2018 20:32

Thanks bear and yumyum

I'm hoping that being organised means I'm less likely to crack and give up. I'm following the recipes from the book at first and then will see about finding others as I go along.

Tasted the rhubarb compote - it was so tart it stripped the enamel from my teeth! Just finishing the last of the Easter egg now to restore my poor tastebuds... Wink

AromaticSpices · 07/04/2018 20:59

Welcome square! And also loving the mantra AverageBear!

I did 850 yesterday and 802 tonight, making it 6 days on the trot where I’ve been totally on plan. Even had a takeaway curry last night, a poppadom but I made some grrrrb beans and broccoli on my plate first so ended up with small portions of lamb dhansak and some sag dahl- absolutely gorgeous and still felt like I’d had a nice dinner. I got onion bahjis as they use gram flour but I wasn’t even hungry for mine so DH had both of them.

Was feeling quite tired and weak yesterday but back on form again today.

After lunch and dinner today I had only eaten 340 calories so made up an amazing pudding with fage yoghurt, frozen (and microwaved) berries, coconut flakes and chia seeds. So filling and tasty! Felt like a real treat.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend Smile
