YYY! But... I'm afraid I will be the week after, as on hols next week. But I'll go a week behind you - I will really need someone to kick me to get out to start with... are you up for the challenge

Avad · 12/05/2010 21:57

Now see, the couch potato in me in quite happy to wait for you for a week

Was hoping to start this week but have been too busy really and I knew I would struggle.

Have you done any running before LS?

OP posts:
meakin · 15/05/2010 00:42

I've just done w1 one so will look out for you on Wednesday

TheNextMrsDepp · 26/05/2010 19:53

I'm bumping this thread because I have just done week 1 run 1 of couch 2 k and am SOOO pleased with myself! I would love to get some support and swap stories to give me motivation to continue, so I hope you're still up for it, Avad and meakin!
I am a life-long gym dodger, but after a few years of denial about my spare tyre and general lack of fitness I decided to do something about it.
So, did you two get going?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 27/05/2010 19:03

Just downloading podcast for week 1 here, can I join you? I'm a wheezing heifer at the best of times but have had c25k recommended by several people.

Off I go!

thelittlebluepills · 27/05/2010 21:16

I'd like to join but am already on week 4 - so apologies now if I become a total know-it-all

first thing I found helpful after the first 2.5 weeks was to actually bother to go to my asthma clinic appointment - I thought I was fine - apparently I am not! turns out I was running at less than 80% lung capacity - oops

anyway I viewed it as altitude training and it's getting alot easier now I can breathe properly

sometimes i feel like i can run more than the programme says but it's best to stick to it so you don't end up with injuries or shin splints

well done mrsdepp for getting out there

has anyone else been out yet?

TheNextMrsDepp · 27/05/2010 22:07

thelittlebluepills - If you can tell me inspiring stories I shall be all ears!Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa I'm a wheezing heifer too, and I have always wanted to be able to run - I reckon it's such a great way of staying in shape.
Second run is tomorrow (Friday), so I'll let you know how it goes.

TheNextMrsDepp · 28/05/2010 21:34

Well, did my second run this morning, went as well as the first. I know it seems pathetic being so excited about running for 60 seconds, but I have always been so unsporty, the last to be picked for school teams etc! I've been using the Podcasts - makes all the difference not having to faff around with a stopwatch.
Grumpy - have you made a start? How did you find it?

CoupleofKooks · 28/05/2010 21:41

if it helps at all, i had never run before starting the programme, have just finished wk 7 and can now run for 2.5 miles without stopping, and have lost half a stone into the bargain

TheNextMrsDepp · 28/05/2010 21:59

Wow, CoupleofKooks, that's just want I want to hear! I can't quite believe it's going to work, but I'm hearing good things. Just need to stick at it, keep the momentum up.

CoupleofKooks · 28/05/2010 22:40

it works, honest! i thought no way would i be able to do it, but you just keep going through the weeks and somehow you do it
it's a very clever programme i think

TheNextMrsDepp · 29/05/2010 11:20

Day off today, just a bit of vigorous housework to keep me fit, run 3 is on Sunday.
CoupleofKooks - did you lose motivation at all? What kept you going?

CoupleofKooks · 29/05/2010 18:08

well i just found it interesting and challenging - posting on MN about it did help because obviously you are less likely to just slope off and not do it
i also quickly found i was getting lots of endorphins after running and starting to miss it on the days i didn't go out!

having said that, the last 2 weeks have both been solid long runs with no variations and i do admit to getting a bit bored
i had a week off and am wondering how to keep interested long term - i think i will complete the programme and do the 5k runs, then maybe try something different to keep interested again

TheNextMrsDepp · 30/05/2010 12:34

Just did the last of my Week 1 runs; actually a little harder work than the other two as I came down with a cold yesterday (of course! Bank Holiday weekend and a week off work! Calling all virusses!)
Still felt great to be on to Week 2.
Off to Champneys on Tuesday for 3 days of R&R, but hope to get a couple of runs in.

notanidea · 02/06/2010 07:29

I want to join as well. Can some one explain to me where I can download this podcast. I have not done any running in the past but I want to give it a go as it has been impossible to get any exercise recently.BTW I dont own an ipod or iphone - does it matter?

TheNextMrsDepp · 03/06/2010 20:18

To download the Robert Ullrey podcasts - try this link.
You just right-click the relevant podcast to download onto your PC, then move it onto an MP3 player (I don't have an ipod either).
They are brilliant, no faffing around with stopwatches, good music too.
Give it a go notanidea, and I'd love to hear how you get on - trust me, I have never run before but am really enjoying this.
I've just done the first two runs of Week 2 in between massages and pedicures at Champneys - and was still able to keep to the intervals despite having a bit of a cold this week.

notanidea · 05/06/2010 08:00

Hey I did my first run day before yesterday after figuring out how to download it.I am going to run my second run. Got a bit of backache as it hilly wherewe live.It is gone today - did I do anything wrong?

TheNextMrsDepp · 06/06/2010 00:40

Well done for getting started notanidea - I was worried I was all alone on this thread! I just did the last run of wk 2 this morning - I got up a bit late so it was a bit hot and sunny but I kept up the pace. On Monday I'll be starting wk 3 - terrified!

TheNextMrsDepp · 06/06/2010 16:58

Where are you all?? Clearly too busy running to go on MN!

tiredemma · 07/06/2010 16:16

Im just about to go into week two tonight (if my one and only pair of jogging bottoms dry!!)

I have stuck to the 'regime' but really felt on my last run of week one that I could have done a bit more (which is a good sign??!!)

Hope you dont mind me gatecrashing, but I think that if I have others to 'report' back to, im more likely to stick at it.

mamalovesmojitos · 07/06/2010 18:08

oooh, i'm tempted to begin this tomorrow morning. but scared, as i never exercise. i really want to be able to run 5k - it would be such an achievement. well done ladies for getting started.

TheNextMrsDepp · 07/06/2010 19:36

mamalovesmojitos - let me tell you, I was the biggest couch potato going. This morning I did the first of the Week 3 runs - I kept going for 3 minutes which I have never managed in my LIFE before! (had to do it twice, in fact). The best thing about Couch25k is that you start off gently but it has really built my confidence just being able to keep with the programme.

Having said that, I did feel the burn in my calves, which I didn't in the previous two weeks....hope Week 4 won't be a challenge too far.....

Glad there are people to talk to out there - I really need the support to keep going!

FiByTheIcySea · 07/06/2010 20:41

Hi everyone can I join you?

I have always dreamt of being able to run but due to having huge norks I kinda thought i'd never be able to. But I've made the decision the other day to just go for it anyway so c2-5k here i go (after the sports bra i've just ordered arrives and I've got to buy some running shoes!)

Really keen to get started although i'm wondering if i'm still a bit crazy to try it with my body shape

TheNextMrsDepp · 07/06/2010 21:08

Go for it, FiByTheIcySea, just control those knockers and you'll be fine!

Love to hear how you get on.

FiByTheIcySea · 07/06/2010 21:45

I've ordered one of these it's the only 32J bra I could find. Hoping it'll be enough! the shoes should be easier as my feet are normal size at least
