Wow! Feeling quite inadequate with my 36Bs!!

FiByTheIcySea · 07/06/2010 22:43

I know but at least you don't have the possible worry of giving yourself 2 black eyes which after my bf for this last year has made that a very real possibility now!

FiByTheIcySea · 07/06/2010 23:28

anyhoo moving swiftly on away from my sagging boobs has anyone been to a running shoe shop that watches you run to work out which shoes to get? there is one i've discovered about 20miles from me.. just wondering if it's worth going?

TheNextMrsDepp · 07/06/2010 23:35

Hmmm... I've been thinking about new runners too. I have a fairly new pair of cross-trainers which I'm using at the moment (thought I'd wait until I got properly into the running before making any rash investments). I think it is definitely worth getting your running style analysed if you are going to do lots of running, or if you know you have an abnormal gait (flat-footed etc), but such places aren't cheap. I am in the "wait and see" camp at the moment.

notanidea · 08/06/2010 00:40

going to restart again this friday- cant get of work before 10pm this week

FiByTheIcySea · 08/06/2010 14:05

I'm going to start as soon as the bra arrives & I've got some kind of shoes. I don't own any kind of trainers at all as I've just lived in crocs & flip flops for the last few years! So I haven't got anything to even have a go. I had a feeling they might be pricey places..

TheNextMrsDepp · 08/06/2010 19:48

Well, hoping to do run 2 week 3 tomorrow first thing, just hope it isn't tipping down with rain and DH doesn't beat me out the door. DH likes a morning run too (although he is a retired athlete, so no pootling about with Couch25k for him), but only one of us can go out at a time and we're starting to clash schedules!

FiByTheIcySea - funny what you said about trainers - I also had none for years, and only bought a pair when I was due to try "Go Ape" - didn't think I could swing through the trees and down zip-wires in a pair of flip flops!

TheNextMrsDepp · 09/06/2010 20:33

Well, it was indeed drizzling this morning, but I was very proud of myself, got out there and did the run. Managed OK!

FiByTheIcySea · 09/06/2010 23:09

Well done NextMrsDepp on not getting put off by the drizzle! I'm impatiently waiting on my bra arriving.. hoping it'll arrive tomorrow

thelittlebluepills · 11/06/2010 13:14

hello all! well done to everyone for keeping going - I'm on week 6 and all was going well except now i think i may be developing shin splints in my right leg

things I have learnt so far:

  • vary your route so it doesn't get boring (maybe even running a route backwards) - this really helps motivate me as when I do route i haven't done for a while I am pleasantly suprised at how much easier I find it compared to the previous time

i have found a fab website called the good run guide where you can map your route and it works out distance, pace, and climb rate (it's important for me as i live in a rather hilly area) it's free for a trial few weeks then £10 a year - i am a bit of a results freak so it was worthwhile for me

Definitely definitely get a decent pair of running shoes from a proper running shop who do the video treadmill thing - shops like Up and Running, and the sweatshop Ihave found to be really good - they were also really nice, knowledgeable and very encouraging as I was worried that being a novice it might all be a bit perplexing for me

TheNextMrsDepp · 11/06/2010 18:38

Thanks for the tips thelittlebluepills, I like the one about running backwards (well, not literally, although that would certainly take the boredom out of it ).

Actually, I'm not at all bored yet doing my route - we live in quite a posh village so I get to nosy at all the gorgeous houses and gardens I never see properly from the car. Also, I found myself sort of meditating while I run, thinking about stuff I need to do later etc. etc.

Luckily there aren't too many hills round here (well, we're on the top of one), otherwise I probably wouldn't have got off the couch!

Might well look into the running shoes, but have been fine so far, no aches and pains, so we'll see how we go. More pressing is the need for some decent running trousers/leggings!

Anyway, that's Week 3 done!! Went out this morning, and it all went well. Fingers crossed things continue as well for Week 4. I still can't believe how brilliant this programme is.

thelittlebluepills · 11/06/2010 20:28

Fi has your bra arrived?

thelittlebluepills · 11/06/2010 20:28

Fi has your bra arrived?

FiByTheIcySea · 12/06/2010 10:30

Great tips littlebluepills I live on a hill too but everything else around is flat so I plan to walk briskly down to the seafront and then run along our newly done promenade that is beautifully flat and even.. not sure how far i'll go on my 1st trip out though as i'll have to remember I need to come all the way back too!
My bras arrived yay i ordered the size i thought i would be and what size they said i'd be. I was right they're suggestion of 34 ribs just rode up at the back and i bounced all over the place!

FiByTheIcySea · 12/06/2010 10:35

so i'm now in the car (dh driving kids in the back) heading off to bristol to get running shoes

FiByTheIcySea · 12/06/2010 18:35

I have shoes! very nice asics gel ones. The kids were pretty good considering how boring it was for them. It was lunchtime when we got there so i just kept them occupied with food. The shop was excellent. They had me in 3 different shoes after assessing my feet and filmed me on the treadmill wearing each.. my first time on a treadmill! So no more running today.. thinking tomorrow or monday.

thelittlebluepills · 13/06/2010 15:46

Fi - that's so exciting - I also have the asics gel ones - it's amazing when you go out for first run in them - made me realise how knackered my old trainers were!

Looks like I might have shin splints so am not going running until i have seen the sports physio - I am going insane!!!! I want to get out running - didn't realise til now how addictive it is. Fortunately my mum is coming to visit tomorrow and is bringing my old cross trainer with her - apparently cross trainers are ok as they don't have the impact of running

with running clothes I have got loads of good stuff off ebay -

Mrs Depp - have you and Mr Depp negotiated your running schedules yet?

tiredemma · 13/06/2010 18:33

Im doing the running world 5k programme. Just started week 3 this afernoon so I have just done -
Run 7 mins, walk 2 mins x 3

Got drenched.

it is addictive. Im so glad im addicted!!

notanidea · 13/06/2010 19:03

just did my first run of ther second week. It is additive but have back pain - Am I doing anything wrong

TheNextMrsDepp · 13/06/2010 22:11

FiByTheIcySea - ooh, shoes sound very exciting! Can I be really really rude and ask what sort of money you paid for them??

thelittlebluepills - well, me and dh (who in no way resembles Mr Depp...sigh.....) are still clashing schedules. I told him it was my turn to run tomorrow (Monday) only to hear that he is off on a business trip, leaving the house at 6am. I'm not sure I can commit to a 5.30am run, keen though I am.

I have just looked at what's in store for Week 4 - eek! 5 minute runs! Having said that, I never thought I'd manage 3 minutes. Feeling a bit twitchy now I know I can't run tomorrow - that's be three days off. Running addictive - who'd have thought it?!

notanidea · 14/06/2010 10:01

Can someone tell me if I am doing anything wrong if I have backache after I run- it is a bit hilly around where I live does it make a difference?

FiByTheIcySea · 14/06/2010 10:47

notanidea sorry i've no clue about the back pain except maybe it could be running posture? The lady who helped me wrt the shoes on sat did tri athlons and said it was important to look forwards not down at my feet and keep my shoulders back but relaxed esp with my front boob load!
tiredemma i chickened out of running my 1st ever last night as it was pouring here.. I didn't want to get my new shoes wet
nextmrsdepp i spent a lot but they are so squishy and comfy inside I hardly felt the impact when my feet hit the treadmill.. these ones dh was so stunned (and delighted) about me wanting to start running he persuaded me to spend the extra!!

notanidea · 14/06/2010 11:01

I have a nike running shoes - Do the shoes make so much of a difference ascis jel shoes are nearly 100 quid Is it worth it?

FiByTheIcySea · 14/06/2010 11:54

notanidea i tried on a pair of nike air shoes but they didn't fit me v well.. even after i'd securely laced them up they felt like they'd fall off my feet.. my heels are quite narrow i think. I don't think it matters too much what you wear as long as they are right for your type of feet.. neutral or the other types i forget.
