N4NNY - how was it? Well done on the sponsorship. Hope it was a good experience.

Well, week 9 run 1 for me today, cold hands! Last weeks Rawbert podcast was a minute short, but I found it. He calls a minute to go on the half hour run at 30 minutes!

31 minutes then, 2.2 miles.

PoppyAmex · 19/10/2010 09:52

So Sybil did a 40m run
Kiwi is on to 5m runs
Nobiggy runs for 31ms
N4nny is clocking up 10km...

That's seriously cool. I just finished 2nd run of week 2 and those 90sec runs weren't as easy as I thought! Blah!

Did you guys really start running a few weeks ago?

Please tell me your stories of wonder and inspire me - I'm determined to see this through but seriously worried about next week.

sybilfaulty · 19/10/2010 18:02

Poppy, I started at the end of July and, honestly, the first week I struggled to do a minute. I think the key to it is to keep going - are you doing Robert? He was fantastic for getting me going and really inspiring. I did 4 runs some of the weeks (well, 4 runs over a week and a half before I moved on if you see what I mean) as I felt uneasy about the next stage. It will come. Honestly.

I am still as slow as a snail, but am out there and (almost) enjoying it!!

nobiggy · 19/10/2010 18:43

Yeah, what Sybil said :)

Some weeks I did twice before moving on, some weeks the three runs got stretched over 2 weeks, but I'm two runs off finishing the lot.

Get the pace right, get the breathing right, the rest is a matter of practice.

nobiggy · 19/10/2010 18:45

And this thread has been great for keeping me at it too :)

N4NNY · 19/10/2010 19:44

I did my run on sunday it was very hatd going it was lots of hills on very uneven loose ground. I did lots of walking on the hills but managed to get round in 1hour 25 mins. It felt a great but feel very disappointed that i wasnt able to run the whole distance. I am now looking for a flat one so i can try agin.

I'm taking a week or two off i think ive managed to crack a rib then plan to get back training. good luck everyone else

kiwibella · 20/10/2010 19:25

I ran 8 mins on the weekend (5 mins seems sooo last week!!) but I've been sick again since. That's three times since September and cruel.

It does get easier Poppy and you actually begin to look forward to it. I find that I feel envious seeing others out running and think about how good it feels.

I started about the same times as sybil - before the summer... but I have yet to crack week 5. I haven't lost my spirit yet. I am hoping to get to the end of the programme. I started out using Rawbert but changed to Carli's. I've noticed that her dialogue is exactly the same as Rawberts but the tunes are more recognisable.

Fantastic effort N4NNY... amazing achievement competing your run in a brilliant time and well done on raising lots for charity. I hope that you can find a flat run... I'm thinking Netherlands???

Panzee · 20/10/2010 19:27

I'm so out of practice. I am due the 20 minute run (is it week 7?) but have been ill for weeks. I'm desperate to get back into it. I'll start that week again when I'm better - when will that be?????!!!! :)

sybilfaulty · 20/10/2010 19:56

Hope you feel better soon Panzee. It's a bitch being ill when you want to exercise isn't it?

Kiwi, I am shocked that you are not a fan of "operator" and other Rawbert classics. I miss the "42 y old guy in N California" bit but not enough to go running with him again. He does think that by the end of the programme one can do 5k in 30m which is too fast for me. I'm on about 40m at the moment.

Right, Michel Roux Jr is waiting for me downstaits. I'm off running tom am if I can get up at 6.30. WIll let yo know if I get any faster Smile

kiwibella · 26/10/2010 21:35

isn't it cold now! Of all things, my wrists were frozen when I ran yesterday.

Sybil Grin Grin. I swear, Carli's podcast is word for word the same as Rawbert's. The tunes are just more modern. What's to miss!! I'm not making any progress... still on week 5 and ran the three x 5 mins yesterday and wasn't able to complete. Pouring with rain today and distracted by decorating... I'll try the two x 8s again tomorrow.

How are you feeling, Panzee? How is everyone doing?

Panzee · 26/10/2010 21:39

Hi, I'm feeling a lot better thanks. Might venture out Thursday morning when it gets light! I'm going to try the beginning of Week 7 again. I have checked out Week 7 of Carli's podcasts and have decide I prefer Rawbert's music! Also he's got me through so far, I want to stick with him. :)

nobiggy · 27/10/2010 23:14

I had some more work done on my foot, so I've not been out. I think I'm about to take on a full time job, so that'll be interesting to fit in.

Panzee · 28/10/2010 11:47

I went out this morning, on the week 6 run 1 and boy was I bad! I only managed 3 or 4 minutes each time, then had to go to a walk. Having said that, I do remember struggling to get to 60 seconds at the beginning, so although I've gone backwards I don't have to start all over again. Already looking forward to doing it again on Saturday! :)

sybilfaulty · 28/10/2010 22:37

I went out this morning but was not feeling well so came home after about 10 mins. Am very tired and my joints ache. Fingers crosse for a good night's sleep sorting it so I can run properly tomorrow.

sybilfaulty · 30/10/2010 10:16

I did a bit better today, managed to run for about 20 mins, then ran and walked the last 15 mins or so. I seem to have lost a lot of fitness over the last couple of weeks or so. Hope it wont' take too long to return. Am going to run again tomorrow am if I can.

How is everyone else doing?

kiwibella · 30/10/2010 12:11

I've hurt my back :( No idea how but I am so limited with movements. I'm going to try a long walk today but I don't think I'll be running for a little bit.

sybilfaulty · 31/10/2010 09:14

Take it easy, Kiwi, and don['t push yourself. I'd wait until you were much better before getting out there or you might do more damage. You must take care of your back. Get well soon.

Am just back from 1/2 hour run inc - gasp - a hill! I did more than gasp running up the bugger, and was scarlet in the face by the end but I did it. Just need to keep practising before my 5k in Dec.

nobiggy · 31/10/2010 22:27

Went out this morning, first time in nearly two weeks. A little slower than I have been, but did 2.5 miles in 36 minutes.

loler · 01/11/2010 13:58

Panzee - You're not as bad as you think you are - the 20 min run is week 5 run 3.

I'm hating winter and just can't motivate myself to go out. I don't want to have to start from scratch next spring so wonder how often I have to go out just to maintain where I am (did week 6 run 2 two weeks ago).

Hope everyone else's back, feet and joints are on the mend so they can get out!

nobiggy · 01/11/2010 19:15

Loler, could you manage once a week do you think?

maninthemooncup · 05/11/2010 21:39

Hello :)

can I tentatively join this thread? I've meant to do the C25k for ages (years) but just never got round to it, I'm thinking though that now is the time!

Where can I find the "Carli" podcasts? I think that would really help, I've always found it really annoying faffing about timing myself when I've tried learning to run before.

My other question is will it affect my milk? I have giant norks and will have to get a new sports bra as I am 5 cup sizes bigger than usual!

nobiggy · 09/11/2010 11:03

Hi maninthwmooncup, quiet here at the moment isn't it?
No idea where to find that podcast, I've stayed faithful to Rawbert ;), also don't know what'll happen with your milk - nothing bad I imagine. Anyway, go for it, it's good.

Just run 5K! In a very slow 44.44 minutes, wet feet, cold hands, runny nose, but that's week 9 run 3!

Done it!

TennisFan · 12/11/2010 11:03

Hi Everyone, I just found your thread. I have just completed week 5 of the c25K and would like to know if anyone has lost any weight yet.
I have about 5 stone to lose, so my speed is slow as a snail, but really pleased that I managed 20min this morning. I don't think I have ever been able to do that, even when I was skinny and light years ago.

Will the weight loss ever come?

nobiggy · 12/11/2010 11:50

Yes it will, as long as you keep at it 3 times a week, and keep pushing on with the next step up. You must have noticed a change in shape? Some muscles? Don't look at the weight so much as that.

I'm slow, I know I am, but I just run on the edge of feeling comfortable, and although it feels like the same speed, when I look at my iPhone cyclemeter the speed is going up.

TennisFan · 12/11/2010 13:42

thanks, nobiggy
I am using the c25K app on an iphone with my owm music - but have no idea what distance i am covering. Only that it doesn't seem far.
