Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

about teams best give it some though when a little more sober

sfxmum · 29/01/2010 20:43

about t shirt etc MN had a few made about all sorts of MNish slogans and for Maude's mile so they might be able to help

popsycal · 30/01/2010 07:41

bloody snow

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 30/01/2010 12:11

not more?

sfxmum · 30/01/2010 14:29

ground very icy here but lovely sunshine
however had to go a fair bit on the road as the river is so high it flooded some of the path

and yes lots more people with yet more snow
really hope it starts warming up soon

peachsmuggler · 30/01/2010 18:07

snow here too but mostly gone by this avo and had very cold 6 miles.

Twink · 30/01/2010 22:54

Quickly passing through, so I don't stop & open more wine but have to highly recommend ice climbing, it was awesome!!

I'm hoping that my sore abs will let me run tomorrow, and that my incredibly bruised knee won't inhibit me either (my fault, instinct was to swing leg from knee to stick forward crampon spikes into ice, whereas proper technique is to stamp downwards - learned fast!) but, it was so much fun that I won't worry if I have to hobble around my planned 10k!

Wheely, did you manage to stand on the corkscrew until after dh got back? Was going to type 'sit' but thought better of it

Wallace · 31/01/2010 06:38

That sounds fun, Twink!

I will be running today despite more snow over the snow we already had, a rotten cold, and ds2 waking at 4.45...

Themasterandmargaritas · 31/01/2010 07:46

Twink I am quite at the things you get up to.

Popsy, 8 miles this morning, 1hr 16, I'm building up to it...

Sorry for all your yucky weather.

Wheelybug · 31/01/2010 16:37

Yes I did Twink - did 5K friday night at about 9pm but then drunk the wine .

Today, I finally decided to replace my 10 year old cheapo trainers with some 'proper' shoes - one assessment, and £85 later, I have just been out and run 4.85 miles in 45 mins which I'm quite pleased with at my first effort at running further than 5K. Felt I could have carried on running too so hopeful of hitting my 10K target soon !

No snow here but v. chilly !

Themasterandmargaritas · 31/01/2010 16:40

soya I've been listening to the CD, it's awesome thanks so much, I had forgotten all about Steel Pulse and One Way or Another is fab for running!

I have just signed up for this. It's not quite in the league of Hattie or Twink but it's the best I can do. Moshi it starts in a town called Moshi

I hope all those feeling under the weather are feeling a bit perkier today.

sfxmum · 31/01/2010 16:48

hello 4miles yesterday 3 miles today
let us hope I stick to the plan and run Tuesday and Thursday too

amazing will to go out at 9pm well done you

master that looks beautiful probably worth it for the scenery alone

happy running all

Twink · 01/02/2010 19:33

Wheely, you should get a special sticker for going out at that time on a Friday night!

Master, which distance are you going to do?

Managed my slow 10k yesterday - ice was a huge problem, so much so that I had to walk in places as I couldn't risk falling.

Did cross-trainer/summit trainer/spinning bike/weights at the gym today, followed by a Body Balance class - my flexibility is embarassingly bad!

Hoping to get back to running club tomorrow for the first time this year, babysitter sorted so as long as we don't get any more snow, I'll be there

Wallace · 01/02/2010 20:05

master - one word for you

Twink - are you sure that is enough for one day?

I got a new pair of shoes today - trail ones. They are adidas Kandidia Kanadia and were only 40 quid. I had to go for those ones as they are the only ones in my size. Well they are a 4, but the sizes are v small.

I will be trying them out in the morning. I wonder if I willnotice the difference on the snow..?

MoshiMoshi · 01/02/2010 20:23

Hello fellow runners. Glad to see all sorts of activities being undertaken from gym sessions and marathon thoughts to late night running and shoe shopping! Well done all. Am still not there on the running. Went to a dynamic pilates class to see how it all beared up and LOVED IT. It is called Ten Pilates and uses all sorts of pulleys and things to give you an hour of pilates where you are constantly on the move. The back was slightly dodgy a day or two afterwards, although with hindsight I probably should not have gone for an hour's horse riding after the pilates. Is v hard to resist when I have this one day a week with child care. Must remember to do one thing at a time but is not in my hard wiring. This week has a further pilates session pencilled in with a tester run a couple of days after that and if that goes OK, then a go at hockey training. Little steps for now...

Twink · 01/02/2010 21:51

Moshi, good to hear you're managing to do stuff - I find ordinary pilates quite a challenge, yours sounds great!

Horse riding's not something I've ever mastered; miniT used to ride and I wondered about having a go but I feel safer on bikes as at least I'm in control (allegedly)

Baby steps are definitely the way to be at present, mine start with turning the alarm off and then sitting up in bed iyswim before I think about the things planned for the day.

Little steps are also the best thing for ice climbing , have a look here, great fun!

RamblingRosa · 02/02/2010 10:47

Hello! Can anyone join this thread or do you have to be a very serious/experienced runner?

I've just started running 2 weeks ago and can only manage 20 minute runs at the moment but I'm really enjoying it and plan to stick with it.

I'll shuffle off to find a thread for beginners if I'm in the wrong place

sfxmum · 02/02/2010 12:44

hi Rosa I would stay if I were you
fabulous advice and inspiration is what keeps me going

Twink · 02/02/2010 18:20

Hi Rosa, stick with us!

Popsy, you've gone quiet, you ok? did you get an appointment?

Off to running club tonight, really don't feel like it & would rather bury my head under a pillow as I've had a 'no mascara' day today but am hoing it'll make me feel better afterwards.

Wheelybug · 02/02/2010 19:33

Twink - sorry its not been a good day. Hope running club helps and that tomorrow is a better one.

Moshi - sounds like you're beginning to get back into it - well done ! Makes my pilates class sound like a lie down (which it pretty much is...). I really want to get back into horse riding which I did a lot of as a teenager. DD1 seems quite interested so maybe one day !

popsy - hope all ok !?

and welcome Rosa ! These guys put up with me and give loads of encouragement so here's the place to be !

RamblingRosa · 03/02/2010 08:35

Thanks I'll stick with it. Went for my usual 15 min circuit last night. I would like to run further but I'm constrained by a)being a beginner and quite rubbish b)working full time and having a 2yo DD c) living in a not-so-nice area so not particularly keen on running too far in the dark (which is invariably when I go running).

I'm looking forward to the summer when it will still be light in the evenings.

MoshiMoshi · 03/02/2010 19:39

Well, two buggy runs this week and, oh my word, did I notice the month off. I only went about 3.5 miles and my average pace on the first run was 11 min/mile and then 9.30 min/mile on the second. The lungs are in the process of clearing themselves after having a nasty virus which seems to have gone on since and the legs feel a bit weaker too. Amazing how quickly you can lose fitness. The back seems ok so far although my IT band made itself felt on the left side today which makes me think I must focus on getting a strong core back.

Day off tomorrow to see if any repercussions occur post run before pilates on Friday which I am looking forward to!

Happy running everyone.

And, last but not least, welcome Rosa!

MoshiMoshi · 03/02/2010 19:40

Sorry, "since Christmas"...

Wallace · 03/02/2010 20:23

Hope running club did the job,Twink.

Welcome Rosa

I go to PiYo (pilates/yoga) and it is very hard work.

I went skiing today and dh decided it would be a good idea to go from top to bottom (I am a very beginner beginner) I was terrified and my legs were burning so much by the end.

I will be so sore tomorrow but I will run
