Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Thanks newgirl and POpsy for the plans. The bupa one looks fine - I could alway skip a few weeks.

The only prob is getiting out 3x week esp at moment with gym creche being shut for january. Oh well, should stop making excuses !!

fishie · 03/01/2010 22:05

popsy i have never managed to follow a plan. but i have found that going back to medium effort of where i was previously (oh please do not judge my grammar) is usually ok.

but i bet you could just go and run 10 miles tomorrow.

popsycal · 04/01/2010 14:57

I just keep looking at the marathon relay thread and am gobsmacked

I really need to get my arse in gear and make more of an effort this year to do more than 10k, I should really be looking for a half marathon!

I am interested in hearing more about the marathon relay but cant find the thread, can someone point me in the right direction?

I went today for the first time in two weeks - our snow before Christmas froze solid and didn't melt for ages. And then when it did, it snowed again! So having walked home from work and realised the snow was still in the crisp stage, and not icy yet, I togged up and went out anyway. I can safely say my aerobic fitness has suffered from two weeks of sloth but I did a comfy little 3 miles. The only trouble is, my iPod doesn't like the cold and keeps resetting itself! Aim: to do lots of short runs until I get my lungs back into shape.

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2010 12:43

Happy New Year everyone!

Moshi - so sorry to hear about your dad. Try not to feel guilty about struggling with the kids, you're going through enough without putting extra pressure on yourself. Must be very diffucult waiting so long for the funeral. Am thinking of you.

Well, have had 2 weeks without any running, due to snow and ice. Did a nice 6 miles at the weekend. Hip was a little sore in the last 5 mins, which is what happened last year when my shoes needed changing. Could have just been the cold and not having run for a while so will see how it is this week and if it still hurts will treat myself to some new shoes!!!

popsycal · 05/01/2010 19:21

Lurked here for many a year, plus some posts (sorry have a seasonal name change right now). Just looking for sympathy/advice - after 18 months of albeit no running and various physio/MRI/Consultants appointments for a bursitis (hip) I returned to the consultant today for a cortisone injection....will it work , it certainly wasn't pleasant.

MoshiMoshi · 05/01/2010 20:40

Hello all and thank you for your kind words of support. I did it. My first run since dad passed away. The last one I did was the one I returned home from to be told the news about dad. After a tearful start, I did a tempo paced short one of about 4/5 miles. It felt OK but was hindered by icy ground. I think the trick will be to keep it up. I feel strangely disconnected from reality at the moment. Hopefully the running will replug me into things before long. I do miss my dad though. Off to finish his death announcement for the papers...

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2010 21:42

Well done Moshi, it can't be easy I'm sure. Just come on here if you want some support or a rant or whatever.

NoahAndTheWhale · 05/01/2010 21:53

A mum at school mentioned a 10k near us in February. Might have a go. Or might do the same race but the 5k option. I know I can run 5k but might be good to do another 10k.

hatwoman · 06/01/2010 13:06

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. I did a lovely 14-miler on Monday in the snow - it was dark/moonlight when I got up, then I saw the sun rise. fantastic. my water froze though! felt pretty tired and battered afterwards but really enjoyed it. saw some deer too - I used to see them loads when I was in sw london (Bushy and Richmond parks) but this is the first time I've seen them in the wild. they were big too. Haven't been out since - the snow is really deep here now. school was closed yesterday, but today is just about the only school in the county that's open.

popsy I keep remembering (when not on-line) that I've forgotten to tell you that I'm away the date of the mn marathon - which is why I've not signed up.

hatwoman · 06/01/2010 13:08

moshi - sorry to hear about your dad

pippaNnippa · 06/01/2010 15:24

Hello,

I like to run and usually go out with a jogging pram but this weather is making it impossible- so I ran my first 10k of the year on Sunday in a local event but the ice was awful (and I came last ) and it was my first 10k since I was pregnant with DD now 6 months.

I'm going to try to go out tonight when DP gets home after I've put DD to bed as I don't want to take the pram for a run in the snow.

This bad weather is making me feel like a prisioner! I've had to make do with the wii fit and long walks as I can't even drive to the gym!

sfxmum · 06/01/2010 19:22

hi all

posting to keep on actives

hitching to go out again as last week managed 4x hopefully will manage to tomorrow depending on how much ice there is about

AnnieLobeseder · 06/01/2010 20:08

Still no running for me. Soon I will forget how! I was thinking about running to work today since the car option wasn't looking great. But then I walked the dogs and got aching calves just from walking in it, never mind running!

Soon, soon, it will happen! Maybe even tomorrow morning..... No work or school so I have a bit more time than usual. And I do love running in the snow.

sfxmum · 07/01/2010 11:16

too much ice getting impatient

stickylittlefingers · 07/01/2010 12:15

hello all and a happy new year...

Quick question - I got a nike + to go with the ipod for Christmas, but don't have the thing to put the sensor in on my shoes. I was looking on Amazon and wondering which to get - does anyone have recommendation? tia

AnnieLobeseder · 07/01/2010 13:25

Yay, finally ran this morning. My Innov-8 gore-tex offroaders have proved themselves yet again. It was really beautiful out there, but tough going through the deeper know. I stopped to take lots of photos (and walk when then going got too tough). But I least I got my butt into my running gear and out the door!
