Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Belated happy birthday, Wheely. Hope the Garmin gets some good use - I'm asking for one for my birthday too. Went running on Tues after not going for a week and a half due to a nasty cold. It felt like pretty hard going. Off to southern Spain on Saturday for 2 weeks. Taking my running gear and hoping it won't be too unbearably hot to go out!

popsycal · 15/07/2010 20:10

I deleted my previous message when I realised that my just giving page had my real life name in the web address

If anyone would like to sponsor me, email e at popsycal2005

Decision - when I take the boys to football on saturday morning, I will run

hobbittoes · 16/07/2010 14:12

Thanks ladies - petty though.............. I kind of enjoyed the company of Suz helium induced instructions! - will just have to make up my own timed playlists.

sfxmum · 16/07/2010 14:40

Nice one popsy!

I went last night and feel considerbally less fit than before holidays. Was very sweaty indeed!

Mittz · 17/07/2010 08:13

Hello.. can I join/rejoin? I recognise some names from a running thread I was on eons ago.
Life and ill health stopped me from running much but I need a kick of encouragement. I miss it and the all round benefits it brought.

So I aim at the moment, with the six weeks hols impending to run at least twice a week. 5k is doable time wise but I am not aiming to worry about times yet.

I Kickboxercise once a week, cycle a little (I want to build that up as well) and walk loads.

popsycal · 17/07/2010 12:56

well i ran
30 mins a little over 3 miles

however y illio tibial injury is a liittle achy

will ring physio on monday

OP posts:
popsycal · 17/07/2010 17:27

illio tibial whatsit is aching

going to do a local 10k on 16th august to get me going
should be at that distance by then
bit running clubish but plenty slower than me

OP posts:
popsycal · 17/07/2010 21:12

Ok
Been thinking about my layered targets for gnr and if I type them then they are real

  • to be able to take part, injury free
  • to complete the course without stopping
  • to finish under 2 hours 30
  • to finish around the same time as last year (2 hours 9 mins and 53 seconds)

(but I really wanted to break the 2 hour mark but have had to revise......)

oh that is 4 layers....

Well done for the run Popsy - hope leg not so sore now. You are sounding more positive !!

I have just taken my new garmin for its first run. It was fab and confirmed my suspicion I run significantly faster out on the road than in the gym.

The creche finishes for the term this week so have 6 weeks of running when DH gets in (not v. early) - eek. Although in Greece for 2 weeks and seriously considering taking trainers and getting a couple of runs a week in even if short ones just to kee momentum going. Is this mad ?

Wheelybug · 18/07/2010 20:35

Also, welcome (back) Mittz !

Also, wanted to let you all know that although I know this thread isn't about weight loss but it has been one of my key driving factors behind my running and I am v. almost down to the weight I got down to before getting pg with dd2 (which was hte lowest i'd been in a while). Feeling pretty good about that !

peachsmuggler · 19/07/2010 11:32

Well done wheely! I imagine for a fair amount of women on here, running is inextricably linked with weight loss/control. I know it is for me!!

fishie · 20/07/2010 09:10

hooray wheely. i am the thinnest i have been since a teenager. still not skinny though.

popsy it took me about 8 weeks to get back to previous fitness (c50k a week) after i was ill / illiotibial thing.

pilates was brilliant help and i must go back but the class is v inconveniently located and timed.

MoshiMoshi · 20/07/2010 09:50

sfx - glad you are now pox-free!
popsy - sent email and well done on first run and plan.
wheely - well done on weight loss!
mittz - welcome!

Have not run since last Thursday as (1) had a virus (the one that has a dual effect) and (2) have been riding all weekend on my new horse! Am v excited I now have a horse of my own that I am keeping on full livery in Devon where I plan to go monthly to get my fix. He is a beautiful thoroughbred and my fifth baby ...

Must focus on training as am theoretically in week 3/12 until my HM and have a duathlon in 7 weeks! In the New Forest so planning to cycle lots. 'tis gorgeous here with ponies everywhere!

Happy running all!

Wheelybug · 20/07/2010 12:59

ooh Moshi - we are off to the new forest on thursday for 2 nights - it is our 10th wedding anniversary so we are without kids for 2 whole nights - hoorrah ! PLanning to send friday cycling but I think weather looking iffy.

7K in gym this morning - used garmin which suggested I'd actually done 7.25K. I am inclined to believe the garmin .

POpsy - I will email you too. Please post a reminder if I don't !!

Twink · 23/07/2010 23:41

Well, Norway lived up to expectations - did a 30k bike ride where paddles would have been more use than pedals! No flat bits, just up or down, in the pi*ng rain

Did a running hill session too: 4k up then 4k down.. And 10k undulating, as well as a 15k walk (the fact that it took 7 hours gives some indication of the terrain..)

We also had 2 days climbing as well as a mega-fishing competition, in the rain!

Great fun but it would be nice to do it in the dry one day!

MiniT's off to Brownie camp tomorrow, I'm going to learn navigation skills on Dartmoor while she's gone. Hopefully will be back on here by the end of next week

popsycal · 24/07/2010 07:23

Gosh you girls have been busy!!
Busy here too but not with running!
Not run since lst Saturday but I now need to up the ante and get cracking. WIll aim for 4 miles this morning - around 40 mins running which should be more than 4 miles. Then I need to seriously up the mileage- but steadily of course. I will sit myself down today and devise a proper plan. Hoping I can make the distance

It is our 7th anniversary today but been together way longer

HAppy running all

Mittz · 24/07/2010 07:39

Hi... I haven't done much yet.. Last week of term was hectic but DD has been enlisted as my personal trainer as she loves cycling.

I will get out later and come on and post what. Ideally would like to get up on the moors.

It is good to read what people are doing and get inspired

popsycal · 24/07/2010 07:47

hmmm
jut looked at the beginners half marathon plan - i have only 8 weeks before gnr

very worried about getting up to the required distance

ANyone want to help me to devise a plan? panicking slightly

OP posts:
MoshiMoshi · 24/07/2010 12:21

Back from the New Forest where we did some cycling which was jolly hard work pulling the trailer with DDs 1&3 in there. Only two 5K runs but made up for it with a long slow 90 mins run after Bootcamp today. Took in Putney Bridge and Barnes Bridge on the way. Lots of runners out there in the sunshine! 9 weeks until my HM and 7 weeks to my Duathlon so need to focus on fitting proper running and cycling sessions into my week now.

popsy - don't panic and think long term. Instead just focus on one run at a time and you will probably find it happens a bit easier that way.

twink - Norway sounds amazing! Enjoy your navigational skills course.

Mittz · 24/07/2010 19:26

I ran, short and sweet.
5k and I was about 26 mins.. steady pace and really enjoyed it.

Norway sounds divine, if wet!
