Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Hello team and welcome newbies! Been busy with end of term here but fitting in the superb Bootcamp and the odd short run. I stupidly pulled my calf again in the mummy's race on sports day at my middle daughter's nursery on Wednesday so was a bit worried I wouldn't manage to run in my Race For Life today but after a session with my miracle working chiropractor I was able to take part. It was exceptionally hot and I took it very gently to avoid injuring myself again so was delighted to come in 2nd! I ran it for several people and had MrTwink ("Kev"!!!) on my bib too.

Not a very fast time of 24 mins but was pleased that even with an injury and not much running I can easily manage 8 min miling as my goal is to run sub-7 again.

And I can confirm I am an open mouth breather

MoshiMoshi · 11/07/2010 22:40

Quick question: Is anyone signed up for the Run to the Beat half marathon in Sept at the O2 arena? Contemplating trying to get a charity place...

Themasterandmargaritas · 12/07/2010 07:46

Ooo well done Moshi.

I am here, in the same country as you, it's very exciting. And today I am going to a proper running shop. .

Where's all this heat you have been talking about?

popsycal · 12/07/2010 21:05

I am now panicking.

Just had a proper look at intermediate half marathon plan. DItched that. Then beginner's plan. WOuld be starting at week 3. 30 mins tomorrow, 40 mins wed, 30 mins friday and 5 miles on sunday. I am not even up to that. And several lovely people have already sponsored me.

I need to give myself a good shake

You CAN do it popsy I know people who are not as fit as you and do less training so you'll be fine!

Just popping on to say hello because I saw the thread in active convos. I'm almost 5 months pregnant now and not running very often - I just never seem to find the time...

MoshiMoshi · 13/07/2010 14:56

popsy - I am doing a half the weekend after you and need to start a training schedule so maybe we could compare notes and motivate each other? Must admit am relishing thought of lots of running! Which schedule are you going to use? I have to be careful I don't use one which ends up with me injuring myself through overtraining. I will cross train a bit as I have the London Duathlon the weekend before your GNR which should help. You can do it! Willing the positive vibes your way...

MoshiMoshi · 13/07/2010 17:13

Wallace - glad all well with you.

Found the BUPA plan which looks nice and gentle and manageable with my life/desire to fit in horse-riding/pilates/Bootcamp etc...

popsycal · 13/07/2010 20:43

moshimoshi - I had planned to use bupaintermediate half marathon plan but may revert tobeginners

didint run btw

Crazy life at the moment! I've been reading but not had time to write.

Moshi, well done and thank you for RfL. MiniT did it on Sunday too with her friend and her friend's Mum while I was away climbing (too soon for me to be surrounded by all that emotion), I was so proud of her, especially in the heat as she's the complete opposite of me & can't cope with anything over about 18C!

Popsy I hope you're in bed asleep now but Moshi's plan sounds like a good one. Also, you've done the distance before, legs have good memories, I only did a few 8 milers before my IM 70.3 and managed to get round the half marathon bit on adrenaline and sheer bloody-mindedness

Wallace fab to hear from you

Peachy, it's rained loads here today so hopefully you've been able to get out without heatstroke!

We're off to (wet) Western Norway tomorrow for a complete change of scene, no email or Internet for a week & only a mobile signal if I stand on one leg, face Mecca and wave my phone in the air. Obviously will be taking my running shoes, along with full wet weather gear and am looking forward to catching my tea in the local fjord

MoshiMoshi · 13/07/2010 23:38

popsy - I may try the schedule provided by marathon-training-program.com (half marathon standard not three day one). There are the usual components eg speed, easy/recovery and long but with good focused speed ie leg turnover sessions then incorporating VO2 focused sessions which look v effective. I also like the fact it gives times spent running rather than distances which means I won't obsess over pace... Can you tell I am obsessing slightly already :-) ?!

peachsmuggler · 14/07/2010 08:43

Twink - yes indeed, no heatstroke here! Kind of sluggish 4 miles last night but good all the same. Norway sounds blissful actually. Hope you have a good time.

Wallace I'm very impressed you are still running. Well done!

Popsy- I agree with Twink, having done it before, it won't be like starting from scratch. You can do it!

fishie · 14/07/2010 08:50

oh i lost this thread, so glad to see it again.

popsy, agree with others, you just need to take it steady so as not to aggravate anything. you are not starting from the beginning as most of those training plans are based on. (sorry grammar crimes)

m&m where are you then? which running shop you going to?

popsycal · 14/07/2010 09:46

moshi - iwill have a look at marathon trainng plan
thanks

and thanks to eveeryone for their encouragement.

I have decided to run in aid of The Samaritans

popsycal · 14/07/2010 09:51

hi moshi - just had a look at your website. The plans start to quickly for me - going to stick with my bupa one as I am worried about aggravating my leg again.

Going to look at both beginners and intermediate and try to adapt a 9-10 plan from that

Need to get out there

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 14/07/2010 09:52

C'mon popsy you CAN do it. You have reached a level of fitness from before which means you have it all there, you just need to break yourself into it slowly. You need to go out there with a positive mind and think of your friend. I would forget about a training plan per se and just say to yourself, I am going to run for 30 mins today/Thurs/Sat.

Enjoy Norway Twink, one of my best friends is from there and spends all summer at her cabin, not a drop of rain in sight.

I popped out for 40 mins this morning along hills at the foot of the pyrenees. How delightful to not be on my usual roads and with fresh air and little altitude. With my new shoes.

I was in Peterborough fishie and went to Advanced Performance who were brilliant. Actually they told me there was nothing wrong with my Nike Triax, but I also bought a pair of Mizunos as I couldn't miss out on a shopping opportunity.

popsycal · 14/07/2010 09:56

i know
everything is so very busy and hectic

OP posts:
MoshiMoshi · 14/07/2010 14:19

popsy - take the time for a half hour run on your own. Too often not making the time for yourself adds to the feeling that you might implode. No matter how busy things are that half hour will help sooth the soul and get your sanity back. I hope you can get out there.

Wheelybug · 14/07/2010 17:31

Come on Popsy ... or I'll get DD1's HSM pom poms out and start cheering for you . Post your justgiving page for those who want to sponsor you and then you'll have even more incentive. I am no expert but would think M&M gives sound advice with forgetting about a plan for the mo and just get some running under your belt.

Wow at Wallace still running at 25 weeks ! Good for you (at my last pregnancy I took to the sofa at 4 weeks and didn't shift until dd2 was 5 months. Might be why I am having to shift all this flab).

Happy running and holidays to all.

T'is my birhtday today and have quite a good running haul - a garmin at last although looks a bit complicated to use so hoping it doens't sit in its box as long as the one I bought DH 2 years ago because he can't work it out. Also other bits -s ocks, new earphones, a book on training for half marathons and marathons - eek !!

master, I have Nike Triax too! We are shoe buddies. I only have one pair though. Sounds like you have a pornographic interest in running shoes. Please seek help.

Happy Birthday wheely, sounds like a great haul. Very envious of your garmin, even if you can't work it! Enjoy your celebrations!

hobbittoes · 14/07/2010 18:51

Hope you don't mind me butting in but could you point me in the direction of a running plan for 10k to put on my ipod? - just finished suz couch25k and still feeling motivated - yeay!

fishie · 15/07/2010 09:19

hello hobbitoes. i didn't use one, just kept adding another five mins to my run. i did get stuck on about 7k for absolutely ages, think that is fairly common.

pyrenees m&m i am dead jealous. am getting rather fed up of my route, even though it is in forest and lovely.

popsy just get out there, don't worry about race you can walk it if you have to. hope you are ok.

Wheelybug · 15/07/2010 11:36

Hobbitoes - I've used the bupa 10K plan before but it doesn't go on an ipod, its just a written plan but as you're doing longer distances you don't need someone telling you to stop/start so much I don't think. I'm sure I read on here though that Robert Ullrey had now done a 10K plan so might be worth a look.

Popsy - My new book has a half marathon plan in it which iddn't look too daunting - its based on running 4 times a week. Happy to give you an idea of it if you'd like and then can copy it and post or something ?

sfxmum · 15/07/2010 11:40
