Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

I like mine btw .

stickylittlefingers · 07/01/2010 18:28

cool - I hope mine arrives soon - and the weather improves!

pippaNnippa · 08/01/2010 16:08

i had a good 5k at the gym today as dp is off - I only realised how much i missed running when I was stretching out

peachsmuggler · 08/01/2010 17:36

No running here since Tuesday. Would really like to get out but impossible with ice-rink pavements. humph

liath · 08/01/2010 17:39

I was going to go running last night but there's 2 feet of powder on top of the dry ski-slope here so DH and I went night ski-ing instead - it was awesome . I rpomise I'll head out at the weekend.

sfxmum · 08/01/2010 18:55

I am almost at the point of paying for a gym session booked a weekly Pilates class starting Wednesday. still lots of ice about making even walking into town hazardous

moan moan moan at least it looks pretty

hope everyone is well

sfxmum · 08/01/2010 18:56

oh skiing how fab it has been years

Wheelybug · 08/01/2010 19:13

Oh it was on top of a dry slope Liath - that hadn't occurred to me actually that that would work. Hmm.. DH and I had been planning to try and get to a snowdome an hour and a half away before we head off skiing in March to see if DH can actually ski since his illness but maybe if we have more snow we could get to a dry slope !

No running here for ages due to illness and ice. Hope to start 10K running plan next wk (actually may get kicked into action if I hear from the GNR ballot ).

popsycal · 08/01/2010 20:14

I am doing gym induction part 2 tomorrow after cancelling due to boys being off. AM going to do a sneaky 5k on the treadmill after the weights induction . More if it isn't too busy

I amsooo frustrated about not getting outside. I am not one to monitor my weight - never have been but I can feel the jeans getting tight - and I don't want to get the old ones back out again

Popsy its this Wk sometime - by 15th I think

AnnieLobeseder · 09/01/2010 12:19

Very proud mummy emoticon - just took DD1 (4yo) out for her first run. She's been asking me for ages if she can run with me, so I bought her a pair of tiny trainers, and we ran around the block. She did really well, hardly walked any of it. Her style needs some work but then she is only 4! Hope this is the start of something long-term and good!

And I went out for a stumble run myself too, 5km round the golf course. It was very tough going in the snow and ice, esp where big churned-up muddly puddles have frozen over.... very hard on the ankles. Lovely to be running in the beautiful snowy scenery though.

popsycal · 09/01/2010 14:00

I finally got to the gym for induction part 2 using the weights

also did 5k on the treadmill, 3k on the horizontal bike thingy then 2 sets of 15on the pully down with your arms coat hanger type thing, then the one which does your outer thighs and the one that does your inner thighs. You know what I mean

I am itching to run outside though - i find treqadmill running really hard ansd boring even though I was looking out of a huge window onto a beautiful iced over lake with birds etc. I did 3 sets of 3 minute 'hills' during my run.

Is treadmill running harder or is it a mixture of the boredom and decreased fitness that I am struggling with?

Pendulum · 09/01/2010 22:20

Hello, can I join in please? I am training (trying to) for my first half-marathon in March, but am having big probs with the weather. I've been forced into the gym, and agree with popsycal- although physically easier, gym running is harder because it's so tedious!

Hoping that hearing others' stories and tips about "getting out" will keep me going over the next two months....

Themasterandmargaritas · 10/01/2010 08:20

I'm afraid there's not much running here either. Torrential downpours and El Niño flooding. This poor country goes from drought to floods in one month. I could run but it is very very very muddy. And we are moving house tomorrow.

MoshiMoshi · 10/01/2010 08:43

No running again due to icy conditions, children and funeral demands distracting me. To top it all off I twisted my SI joint yesterday and it is stuck and I an unable to move easily, let alone lift children or do school runs. Had emergency chiropractic treatment last night but will need more help to release the spasm. Terrible timing with the funeral in five days' time and we have to drive west for it in four days. Why is my body so useless?

AnnieLobeseder · 10/01/2010 10:41

Hello Pendulum. I'm new to the group too.

Those of you having trouble getting out for a run and hating the treadmill.... have you considered gore-tex trail shoes? They have loads of grip and keep your feet dry, then out the door you go with no worries!

popsycal · 10/01/2010 14:13

I went to the gym agian today to exscae the4 mayhem and boredom

Tried to do 5k on treadmill and set it to do minor intervals. I HATED it. 4K in about 25 minutes and as I knew I wouldnt do 5k in under 30 minutes, I stopped there - I am ashmaed of my stupidity

ANyway - then did 20 minutes on bike and 15 on stepper and then some weight stuff. But I hated it - especially the treadmill. Only Abba kept me going for the 25 minutes I did.

It os thawing a bit here so I am crossing my fingers that it wont snow again....

Oh and the battery in my ipod sensor thing has died and I need a new one

Wheelybug · 10/01/2010 14:25

I just tried to go out for a run - walked to the end of my road in the hope of getting to some clearer pavements and couldn't find any, tried the roads but they were too slippy too. So, trying to decide whether to jump in the car and go to the gym but agree its sooo tedious. Am kind of pleased though by what you say Popsy because I run so much slower on a treadmill than on the roads and thought it was just me ! I really want to start my 10K plan though so wwould only need to do 2 miles (have decided to start at Wk1, R3).

popsycal · 10/01/2010 14:27

i am trying to do a 10 mile plan and failing miserably #1!!!

Couldnt even motivate myself to run for 30 minutes never mind an hour and thirty!

tried all my usual tricks to keep me going but in the end i just gave up

We're having a completely disasterous running day I think. After my attempt to get out DH Decided to take car up to Richmond Pk and run round there only to find some car parks shut and others full. So, he's gone out to attempt round here which could all end in disaster as he has balance issues at the best of times !! But, he doesn't mind running down our high street which is clear whereas I prefer places where my friends don't see me

peachsmuggler · 10/01/2010 15:50

Welcome Pendulum - Yes it is very frustrating all this weather. Must be especially difficult when you know you have a race to train for, but here's hoping we can all get back out there soon.

Popsy 0 agree with you on treadmill running. It sucks. Although if I did have access to a treadmill right now I'd be on it and probably thinking what a marvellous incention a treadmill is!!

Took the xmas tree out to the street earlier and I swear I think the snow is melting...I think....

Feeling very lardy at moment as xmas eating frenzy has left me with a bigger appetite than I had before, and without any running to work it off, am in danger of putting on laods of weight. Can't ven get out for a proper walk, as too cold for DD. Was dancing around with her earlier while Dancing on Ice was on though so am sure must have burnt SOME calories!

peachsmuggler · 10/01/2010 15:51

or even invention.

stickylittlefingers · 10/01/2010 16:29

I like incention - I didn't know if you meant it was an incentive or an invention, but somewhere between the two. I guess I would use one if I had one, but it was used in prisons as a punishment for a reason, imo. Something about the lack of progress makes it psychologically grim.

All three of us were exercising with Davina yesterday (me and 5yo and 2yo) - three bums in the air - must have looked very funny

It's dripping a lot here. I'm not sure if sleet will wash it away or not?

sfxmum · 10/01/2010 16:35

hi all

I must go out tomorrow no matter what
lardy and just sort of bound I guess is the best way to describe hoe I fell
seems to be affecting my sleep too
dh has gone over weekend but he is only doing a couple of miles

ordered some trail shoes for better grip and some trainers for dd, she has been going on about it for a while so hope she will be pleased

hope everyone manages some running time this week
