Still exhausted today after my five mile cross-country run through ankle-deep mud and knee-deep puddles

Will be buying myself some trail shoes though, enjoyed it very much, especially when I got to the end.

Hopefully will also be able to increase my distance for the mumsnet run from 10k to at least 15k, injuries permitting. Have definitely got the bug again, I can feel my running fitness coming back and my wobbly bits are definitely not as bad as they were.

Happy birthday Fishie.

MoshiMoshi · 18/01/2010 19:43

Glad to see all are up and running again. Well done. I am not doing very well having only been once since dad passed away three weeks ago. The spasm in my SI joint is much better but I am anxious not to aggravate it again. Or am I just being pathetic? I might be. Am feeling quite low and unable to muster much enthusiasm to do much except sort out the kids at the moment. That and try and get dad's affairs into order for probate. Oh joy. I have got some Ten Pilates vouchers DH bought me for Christmas which I could book in with... maybe that might be a better way of kickstarting me again...?

hatwoman · 19/01/2010 10:09

hi everyone,

moshi it's entirely understandable that you're not getting out there at the moment - you'll get back into it in time.

mrsW glad you enjoyed the cross country - the mud's definitely part of the fun.

no running for me still. feeling quite ropey, though gp has given me some steroids so I'm hoping things will start to get better.

saw this today. I think we all know how good running is for us mentally but interesting to see there's some science in it. I'm somewhat in awe of the 15 mile/day mice!

Themasterandmargaritas · 19/01/2010 10:55

How the hell does Emily Maitlis run in her sunnies? It's a celeb thing isn't it?

sfxmum · 19/01/2010 11:15

mrsW sounds like fun, only problem from my weird point of view are soggy socks no idea why it bothers me so much

hat I do hope you see some improvement and keep your spirits up somehow

moshi you will find it again, these things take time, Pilates is a good start

master I have some prescription sunnies which sort of wrap around a bit (not in T*at Bono style) it helps me when in bright sun otherwise my eyes just water too much

went running with dh really enjoyed it

sfxmum · 19/01/2010 11:18

ah that is why I suddenly took an interest in String Theory

I just think it clear my mind and keeps me sane and depression at bay

hurrah for running

peachsmuggler · 19/01/2010 13:47

Hurrah for running indeed!

Moshi - agree that Pilates might be a good idea to start and see how you go. Sometimes it's best to go with the flow, and try not to worry that you aren't feeling more emnthusiastic. That will come.

Just got my first copy of Runners World (they are doing an offer of 3 editions for 3 quid at the mo). It is quite inspiring. There is nothing earth shattering in it, and I guess it is the same sort of stuff every month, but can imagine it is a good motivational tool.

Am running geek

MrsWednesday · 19/01/2010 20:56

Me too Peach - have also got the same offer. When did your first copy arrive? I'm still waiting for mine.

Should have forced myself to go out for a run tonight but I'm tired and generally a bit low today - my uncle died this morning and although it was sort of expected it has all happened very fast.

Sfxmum, my socks were incredibly soggy and it definitely wasn't pleasant.

peachsmuggler · 19/01/2010 21:47

Just yesterday Mrs. T'is very exciting to get magazine in the post, no? Really sorry to hear about your uncle. Am not surprised you're feeling tired and low. Don't worry about forcing yourself out. Take care

MoshiMoshi · 19/01/2010 21:51

MrsW - so so sorry to hear your uncle has passed away. I don't expect there is any way of lessening the blow of death even if it was anticipated. I did download a running log and runkeeper thingy onto my iPhone in a bid to try and get myself all ready for running again. Since dad died my legs have absolutely no desire to run, nor my heart. Is all very alien to me so can only imagine you must feel similarly flat? Not much to suggest but wanted to let you know you are not alone.

MrsWednesday · 19/01/2010 22:27

Thanks Moshi, it's very kind of you to take time to talk to me when you've been going through so much.

Hopefully the pilates will help kick start things for you. I loved it when I did it, really need to find a new class to join as my old one has finished now.

MrsWednesday · 19/01/2010 22:30

Peach, I am mainly jealous that yours has arrived and mine hasn't...

Themasterandmargaritas · 21/01/2010 15:45

Yes you will, you know you want to.

Wheelybug · 21/01/2010 19:26

We believe you Popsy !!

No marathon for me yet. I'm still quaking at the thought of getting a GNR place in Feb. I would like to do London Marathon at some point but it will be 2012 at earliest, probably later.

Wheelybug · 21/01/2010 19:27

I'm all togged up in running stuff waiting for DH to get through the door. Would quite like to sit down and read my book though
