Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Sorry to hear that hat

First run tonight for about 10 days. No alcohol since 2dn Jan so am hoping it will be easier. I was definitely making things harder over christmas.

MoshiMoshi · 14/01/2010 17:01

hat - hope you see improvements. My dad's funeral tomorrow after which I really hope things get back on track as I can't bear the thought of living like this. It is emotionally exhausting and I can't seem to sleep properly. Happy running everyone. Take care on that slippery ice. My locked SI joint is stll preventing me from running sadly.

Wheelybug · 14/01/2010 20:52

Thinking of you tomorrow Moshi - hope it goes all well as these things can and that it helps you.

Hat - sorry things aren't improving for you. Hope the hospital appt helps.

Popsy - hope things are ok with you too

Managed to brave the ice this evening (and get DH to get home) and got out for a run. Really enjoyed it - have never been out running at the end of the day before, ran all the day's frustrations away. Did 6.11 K too which is the farthest I've run yet - feel 10K is easily within my grasps now.

I think its tomorrow we should hear by for the GNR. Am v. torn - part of me really wants the challenge, another part is scared stiff.

Wheelybug · 14/01/2010 20:53

I should say, the farthest I've run since being back running since dd2.

peachsmuggler · 14/01/2010 21:28

Well ladies, I have been out there!

Tee hee. Was so nice to get out. Just did 3 miles, but was harder than usual (see above post re. disappearing muscles). Looking forward to longer one at the weekend. God bless the thaw!

Moshi - Hope all goes well tomorrow, will be thinking of you.

nice one Wheely - you must feel great. Good luck with the GNR. You know you want to!!!

Twink · 14/01/2010 22:26

Oh heck, missed loads again... Apologies if I miss anyone out.

Hat, utmost repsect for you and everything you achieve, hope GP can help. Moonlit run sounded awesome - in fact ANY outside run at the moment is awesome but yours particularly so.

Moshi, what can I say, with you every step of the way tomorrow. Hope it goes well and enables the next phase to start iyswim.

Mrs W, yep no excuses, you'll love it once you start.

Wheely & Peach, well done both of you, hope GNR is good news Wheely

Popsy, hope home stuff is improving and work provided a hidey hole.

Orm have you got out yet?

Hello to the new guys and greetings to the rest!

Have managed 2 treadmill (spit) runs so far this week. Both hard going, not only for the fact they were indoors but I was running next to Mr T's preferred 'mill and it got really, really hard. How could I wimp out after all the runs he did when he felt truly dire??! Thankfully they look out of the window so no-one could see the tears. BUT, on a positive, today did 5k in 25 mins as a warm up then 5*125m speed intervals followed by 15min hill climb on a spinning bike, plus weights. Skipped swim as sound like a phone-sex worker at present and don't want to get an chest or ear infection.

Oh, but I so want to run & bike outside!! Can't afford to risk a sprain or break though so need to be patient.

Feel very low at the moment which I know isn't being helped by not getting out properly so apologies if I seem to be hiding, I'm not, just lurking

MrsWednesday · 15/01/2010 10:26

Thinking of you and your family today Moshi. I hope it goes as well as it can.

Twink, I hope the thaw happens immediately so you can get outside in the fresh air.

Wheeley, I found that my evening runs have the same effect, the only problem is that I feel quite wide awake and raring to go afterwards so find it difficult to get to sleep!

NoahAndTheWhale · 15/01/2010 10:33

Have run yetsterdat and today It keeps raining, coldly on me.

What do you more experienced runners wear on your lower halves? I am wearing running tights (I think - they definitely are tight) and getting a very cold bottom. Thought there was enough fat there to insulate but possibly not! Shorts over the top? Or do I just need to move my legs faster?

Am torn between 5 or 10k race in February. One lap for 5k, two for 10k. Think I may go for 5k.

sfxmum · 15/01/2010 11:26

hello all

Moshi thinking of you and your family

Hat hope you get some answers and proper help and that this is not a bad 'flare up' take care

popsy hope you got your head cleared and all is back to normal

to everyone who kept on running well done

here managed a couple of miles today in the rain, probably not wise given that I woke up coughing several times during the night
dh is now getting competitive and we will be running together on Monday
I will kick is arse

popsycal · 15/01/2010 19:55

no gnr via daily irror ballot for e ut transferred over to normal ballot

baxckk later girls

OP posts:
peachsmuggler · 15/01/2010 20:20

A cold bottom you say Noah. Goodness!

I wear 3/4 length running tights and don't get a cold bum. As to natural insulation down there, well I have plenty so am not sure what to advise. I would imagine though that a pair of shorts over the top would do the trick as layering is almost always the best way to add warmth.

I am drinking gin and eating crisps, so imagine this weekend's run will be a Sunday, rather than a Saturday one.

Wheelybug · 15/01/2010 20:35

Same here Popsy - for both me and DH. Not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed (bit of both)

Hope today went ok Moshi.

popsycal · 15/01/2010 20:42

oh i wil still be doing ir - hav no fear - but not via the daily irror )

OP posts:
MrsWednesday · 15/01/2010 23:54

A no for me in the GNR ballot too.

Drinking wine and eating chocolate - also will be doing my run on Sunday not tomorrow!

littleducks · 16/01/2010 09:48

hiya ladies, having expressed a wish to maybe take part in the mn relay, i actually managed to start 'training' today (YIPPEE) as i had been seriously hampered by ice and snow. I did run, which im proud of, though walked some icy sections, especially sionce I went at 7am so was still dark.

Now i have a really stupid question, how do you work out the distances you run? I will prob mostly be training on some open land near our house, named a 'moor' but really just is grass, so i dont think i can google map the distance...

sfxmum · 16/01/2010 15:22

littleducks this might help, I usually use my watch with attached pedometer type thingy

well done for starting

I have been running but not yet on the plan

good luck for GNR hopefuls

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/01/2010 08:05

Finally moved house and managed to get out for a 5k today, even though it was a different route

Moshi, I hope the funeral wasn't too traumatic.

Hattie, I've been thinking of you too.

Popsy, how is dh? Is he at home now?

Welcome newbies.

Sorry you didn't get your GNR ballots, though I'm sure if you want to do it there are other ways.

soyabean · 17/01/2010 08:37

Whizzing on Mn briefly to say Hi - no time to read the whole thread but have skimmed and send best wishes to all, some of you dealing with such difficult things at the moment...

Work so busy and computer so congested (teenagers)weekday evenings that I rarely have time to get on here. Managed first run since all the snow yesterday - a very short one, will do the same today and try to get back in the swing of things.

Am thinking of buying new shoes. I mainly run on pavemants and in parks. Am I going to have to pay £70plus? Looks that way... will go to local running shop next saturday.

Enjoy your Sunday runs!

soyabean · 17/01/2010 09:32

Master I am finally burning your disk...
You have moved house - do you still have the same address for posting?

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/01/2010 10:39

Oooo thanks Soya, that's exciting! Yes the address stays the same, we only use post office boxes, there is no house delivery.

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/01/2010 18:34

Went running and had to stop due to none of me wanting to go any faster than a walk. I am not impressed

popsycal · 17/01/2010 19:48

WHat a fabulous day for a run here.
6 degrees (a veritable heat wave!!)
Blue skies, sun and a chill in the air.

Bloody annoyed I didn't get a run and wont til at least Tuesday as DH is away.

Grrrr

Have emailed MNHQ to ask for further publicity for MN marathon. Do you think it is reasonable to say it is open to everyone til the weekennd of the rn bt to organise teams from the end of jan and may not be able to guarantee a team after that point?

OP posts:
fishie · 17/01/2010 21:15

popsy yes strict deadline for joining teams or it will become pesky. it will be bad enough with injuries and other drop outs

hooray much running for me, it was my bday on tues (shared with mr marakami i am v proud) and i took the week off work. was fortunate with snow that it was either runnable or gone. dreadful hangover today turned my 10m into 10k though.

orm have you been out yet? not drinking hmm...

popsycal · 17/01/2010 21:19

end of jan is deadline then

fishie was it a special~ birthday? I week off is rther indulgent
