Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Twink · 26/04/2010 22:57

Great stuff Tut, and, they've changed the boundaries so you'll get a good for age place next year if you want it: Good For Age

I've just emailed moshi, not avoiding you all but been feeling particularly low lately so been keeping my head down.

Will catch up on the rest of the news from the last couple of weeks and put my positive head back on.

Tx

TutTutter · 27/04/2010 19:05

twink

i THINK i'm happy that you've shown me that - i now will apply for next year's race, and defer til 2012 if successful

thanks!

popsycal · 27/04/2010 21:06

DH reckons I ought to apply for london marathon this year as he is sure that by the five year thing I will want to do it.....

OP posts:
popsycal · 27/04/2010 21:10

oh and i think i have finally persuaded dh to start a couch to 5k prgramme

his feet arethe polar opposite of mine - he has seriously high arches....any basic shoe recommendations? we cant afford lots of pennies atm

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 28/04/2010 07:18

That's it, I'm going to enter the ballot. For sure I won't get a place but i may try then for a charity place. The timings work out well with our school Easter hols next year.

C'mon popsy let's try. Anyone else apart from the super speedy Tut that is?

Twink, good to see you. It's not surprising you have been having a low patch, how is mini-T? I often think of you both and Mr T when I am running. I hope you are still getting lots of support from family and friends.

I did my fastest ever 10k this morning in 57 minutes

fishie · 28/04/2010 08:18

hello everyone. tutter well done. good for age indeed.

of course you must enter m&m.

popsy i have high arches too but use trail shoes so not entirely helpful - mizuno are good and cheaper than many although still fairly ££. you could get dh assessed at a shop and then look for older models on internet?

peachsmuggler · 28/04/2010 09:38

Hey Twink, sorry to hear things have been tough. Thinking of you.

Would be tempted to enter ballot for next year but would really like to have another baby so will leave it for now.

Master and popsy go for it!

I think a sub 50 min 10k is probably not realistic for me but also did my fastest at weekend (not race, just training) which was 55 mins, but can't imagine going too much faster, maybe a couple of minutes.

I DO love this thread so much. If it wasn't for you lot, I would probably lose motivation and end up just runnign randomly twice a week.

Thanks!

sfxmum · 28/04/2010 12:20

hello all

twink nice to see you around, I think you are allowed wobbles and downright miserable times, don't go away you always inspire everyone, hug to miniT

*popsy8 careful what you wish for convinced dh to run and he is now faster than me, the cheek of the man still company competitor is good

and those thinking of Marathon go for it

was in running shop this morning where the guy was keen to tell me about is marathon experience I listened and sounded duly appreciative, I am sure being undercharged was an accident

happy running everyone

Wheelybug · 28/04/2010 12:42

Good to see you Twink - sorry things are hard at the moment. Another one who thinks of you and MrT when running (particularly helpful when I'm being a wuss and want to give up).

OOh go on Popsy and M&M. I'd love to join you but I have a hastily arranged prior engagement . Seirously, I really want to do it but want to devote myself to the training so will wait until DD2 is in pre-school which means 2012 earliest - probably 2013. Tut - what was your training schedule like ? How many days did you train ??

Mind you, my calf muscle is playing up after 4 shortish (5K) runs. Its what stopped me running for about 6 weeks (well that started the stopping and then lots of other excuses reasons). Not sure really what to do about it. Its not too bad at the mo so thinking of just tryin to stick at shorter runs for a bit in the hope it strengthens. Does this sound ok or am I sticking my head in the sand that it needs looking at ?

Another one here whose DH started running after me but is so much faster/better. Harumph.

popsycal · 28/04/2010 12:57

I really really REALLY could not do a marathon.......
really

Wheelybug · 28/04/2010 13:15

The Popsy doth protest too much

MoshiMoshi · 28/04/2010 14:54
TutTutter · 28/04/2010 15:02

i generally ran 3 times a week in training, that's all

fishie · 28/04/2010 15:16

moshi do you do other exercise than running? just i always get injuries if i only run, if i swim / pilates as well i am fine.

i have itb pain at the moment and i haven't been to pilates for ages.

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/04/2010 17:09

Go popsy, go Moshi. Should I enter as a UK resident using my sister's address or as an overseas ballot?

Fgs Popsy of course you could do it.

You'll be fine by next April Moshi

Wheely I had the same problem with my knee, I kept going with the short runs and built up its strength and now I don't have a problem with it. Are you using deep heat on it? What about shoes, are you due a new pair? Also do you run on the road? If so then bizarrely you need to keep changing sides otherwise you are affected by the road camber.

Now I need to talk headaches. Why do I keep getting one after doing 10k or more?

popsycal · 28/04/2010 17:12

Are we really entering?!?!?!?

I dont think I could train for this next one....so will be praying for rejection for a few years

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 28/04/2010 17:20

Yes we are entering. We won't get a place anyway....

So that's me, popsy, moshi, Tut (who has no choice), fishie? Orm? Peachy? MrsW? Wheely? Sfx?

popsycal · 28/04/2010 17:24

omg a real MN marathon....

OP posts:
popsycal · 28/04/2010 17:27

oh no they are not doing the five year entry thing anymore

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 28/04/2010 17:41

Thanks M&M - I too have had a bit of knee problem and the running through it worked so fingers crossed it just might. I run 2x gym and 1 x road at the mo. Its definitely worse after the road. All my leg problems (knee and calf) have occurred on same side so I suspect I run more heavily on that side or something.

Tut - you did that on 3x a week. Wow ! I don't think I'd manage 3 long runs a week until dd2 is in preschool as I can only go to the gym in the week and I can only get hour long sessions in the creche until she's 2 (March !) so at best, if I'm organised, don't shower in the hour and don't pass out with treadmill boredom I could do 45-50 mins max. So all valid excuses I think (ahem). But, I think the rest of you should go for it. I will be a cheerleader .

peachsmuggler · 28/04/2010 21:34

Am with the waiting for pre-schoolers.

Need to ait till as yet unconceived next baby is in pre-school.

Wheely do you think you need to get your gait checked again, in case your style has changed and you need different shoes?

MrsWednesday · 28/04/2010 21:35

So sorry you are feeling low Twink. I am thinking of you and Mini-T and the inspirational Mr T too.x

I'm definitely up for entering the London Marathon, having tried and failed this year. Have got to do one before my 40th next year so am also tempted to try and enter Edinburgh for next May. Has anyone done that?

TutTutter · 28/04/2010 21:47

no, no, not three LONG runs a week - just three runs

let me give you examples...

in january i typically did:
1 x 6m, 1 x 7m, 1 x 10m

feb: 2 x 7m, 1 x 13m

mar: 2 x 8m, 1 x 15m

peak week (end march) = 1 x 6m, 1 x 8m, 1 x 20m

Wheelybug · 28/04/2010 22:19

Tutter - 8-10 miles are long runs here . Seriously though I wouldn't be able to fit them into my gym hour so that's my excuse and that's final . Although quite like Peach's 'waiting until unconceived child is at pre-school'.

Peach - on the subject of shoes, I have only recently bought some new ones. Actually, have only had problems since the new ones .

peachsmuggler · 28/04/2010 22:55

Do you still have your old ones? Could you do a test with those on?
