Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Just popping in too after a week of holiday.

Poor you Popsy, I hope it's now all sorted?

Tut, that is an awesome time! Not long to go now.

Where we went on holiday was in the western highlands of Kenya, where all the famous runners come from. In one town, Iten, at the top of a huge escarpment and at some 8,000 ft is a high altitude training camp for athletes. It was totally bizarre to see white people running around the muddy tracks in the middle of the back of beyond. It's an alternative form of tourism.

I admit to a small run with a group of highly amused school children who spent the most of it touching my hair and laughing at how much I was sweating. I then ran a couple of times in a rainforest, with wet feet and lots of monkey noises around. Great fun.

I hope the weather is easing up now and there is lots of spring sunshine for you all to run in.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/04/2010 16:18

Have you seen the total now?

Over £2700 - fan-bloody-tastic

hatwoman · 08/04/2010 17:20

Hi everyone,

well done on the mn marathon all - really good effort on the fundraising front. popsy - how's your knee? hope it's getting better.

I've been completely off running for the last month. as you know, in Jan i was ill, then, as soon as I felt better in feb I got myself out and tried to slot straight back into my training schedule...but I think it was too much and I've spent much of march feeling crappy and not running. not as bad as in Jan but not great. went out for 4 miles today - first time in eons - and nearly stopped after about 500 yards. I've been having what I can only call attacks of incredible weakness and fuzziness/pins and needles - and one decided to appear just as I set off. it didn;t last long and I managed to do the run. felt good afterwards but not so good now. fecking disease. just want to get back to that fab feeling of being strong and healthy. maybe i'll have to take up something lower impact...swimming or cycling

popsycal · 12/04/2010 19:25

will come back properly in a few hours with a proper update

but in the mean trime

any suggestions for new shoes?

sorry to hear things aren't much better Hat. Hope things improve soon.

I haven't been running for ages - after skiing, dd2 had chicken pox then I had quite severe tonsillitis over the easter weekend and didn't get antibiotics till tuesday so have only just started feeling on form but its been easter hols and now we have just had our hot water cut off as our cylinder is leaking so no hot water for a week so don't expect runnning will be a good idea as it'll make me smell even worse !! Will go to gym on tuesday though if only to get a shower !!

Must make a plan to get back to running properly - am going to book a run of some sort. Probably Run10K in september which gives me loads of time.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/04/2010 18:16

Popsy - just picking up on something you said elsewhere - if you do 'do a runner' mail me - I'd like to stay in touch.

jax p 6 3 at sky dot com

Ok missus?

Hat -sorry you've been unwell. Hope things start to improve for you.

I haven't run this week but I climbed Hellvellyn yesterday (was grim up top), and another couple of big hills so my legs are a wee bit sore.

popsycal · 14/04/2010 21:03

saggar - I will do

Am going to expertiment with hiding lots of topics this week to see if it helps

sfxmum · 15/04/2010 16:59

Hello running friends. Have been gearing up for my dad's memorial service, hence recent radio silence, only for Icelandic volcanic ash to prevent me and my poor mum from flying there. Am so disappointed although thankful some family is there already to act as family representatives.

Will have to get my runners on to try run it off as have finally been given green light to start again after almost a month off.

Hope you are all well and that running gets underway again. I think there have been strange things happening to conspire against me (us all?) recently. I blame the moon stars (heard it from someone else and think that is a good enough excuse!)

popsycal · 16/04/2010 19:29

I didnt get out today - far too nice mooching in the garden with the boys

tommorrow morning though....too hot today

OP posts:
peachsmuggler · 16/04/2010 23:56

Oh Moshi that is just too awful. Poor you. Hope you are able to run at least some of it off.

Legs sore from speed training last night.

Training for 5k at mo. My pb (non race) is 27 mins 1 sec, and want to do it in less than 26mins. Race in 3 weeks. Is this possible does anyone know?

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/04/2010 09:25

Poor you Moshi. How disappointing. I'm sure your dad would be happy to think of you running for him instead.

There are a lot of disappointed people out there at the moment because of this volcano. Hundreds of roses are rotting at our airport, it's going to affect the flower industry terribly here.

Peachy, of course it's possible. Set your mind to it and do it.

Back in the groove a bit this morning with a 10k hard and hilly run.

popsycal · 17/04/2010 11:18

weather great
new shoes great
new kit great
leg not great

stamina no problem but started hurting a mile in
did just under 2 miles with v short walk breaks

if sore tomorrow, gp on monday

OP posts:
sfxmum · 18/04/2010 17:05

hello all

moshi sorry that sounds rough

popsy hope leg improves

regarding the volcano,There are a few children due to start school tomorrow but stranded somewhere abroad, a few lucky friend arrived Wednesday night
but is is blissfully quiet here under the flightpath, Kew Gardens was extra lovely without planes going overhead, also a it freaky

here back running today somehow ended up in the way of runner racing part of my usual route, hopefully normal service resumes this week and I will train properly

peachsmuggler · 18/04/2010 18:37

Yes, sfxmum, have also been enjoying the weirdly quite skies (though you can always depend on the odd police helicopter round where we live )

Ahh, the hot weather has arrived. Went out at 9.30 this monring for a 6 mile run and was glad I had gone when I did as was really quite hot!

Hope your leg improves soon popsy!

Wheelybug · 20/04/2010 13:12

finally back running here - 5K in gym this morning and felt fine, could have done more if it wasn't for the sheer boredom (and the fact I had to shower in my hour slot as still no hot water at home).

Have signed up for run10K in October too so going to just work on getting to a regular 10K (just about got there 6 weeks ago and hten haven't run since... grr.) and do a good 10K and then pick my next distance I think.

Don't go Popsy... I think you ('one') goes through phases with MN - I have been here almost 6 years and really not on as much as I once was and then often just on the same threads.
