Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

fishie I think you have the right attitude, I should just brassneck it out, but people are usually staring so intently ahead that you feel a fool! ha ha

Got my new runners yesterday, oh so pleased to have new shoes. Maks me realise how much support had gone from the previous pair

OrmRenewed · 17/03/2010 08:55

I think I am going to be walking my 20k Tendonitis in left foot and a horrible sore throat and cold. Haven't run for over a week But I will get there if it takes me all day!!!

sfxmum · 17/03/2010 11:18

can't find the Mn marathon thread
does anyone know how the fund raising is going?
maybe we should have charged a joining fee

sorry to hear of assorted ailments blighting the running
not running today but probably should, maybe it would lift my mood

Twink · 17/03/2010 22:23

Finally back running again after pulling a whole bunch of bits 2 weeks ago at speed training. Did a 'brick' session (tri speak! bike then run transition) on Fri then 10k on Mon and speed/hill work last night. Couldn't stick with my friend on the ups but can still nail her on the downs.

Years ago I was rubbish at downhill running so worked hard at it and can now fly! I can work so hard at it that I'm out of breath at the bottom of the hill but recover on the flat bits.

Triathlon training really kicking in now, and frankly, I'm terrified. I've got 12 weeks before the race and this time I think I really have been over-ambitious. Even London never had this fear, but I agreed it with MrT, he thought it was a good plan so I'll have to give it my best shot! Just hope some of his determination is in me somewhere..

MoshiMoshi · 18/03/2010 10:15

Bugger bugger bugger. Off all activity for at least two weeks after spraining ankle playing hockey last weekend. Managed to score a hat trick but annoyed at fact I can do nothing now or else compromise my recovery blah blah blah.

sanfairyann · 18/03/2010 23:36

oh no so many injuries! hope you all get better soon.

peachsmuggler · 19/03/2010 16:47

Oh Moshi What bad luck. Not jolly hockysticks

Twink Feel the fear, love the fear, use the fear. You can definitely do it!

Has anyone else been watching Eddie Izzard doing his marathons. Truly amazing, I don't know how he didn't fall to bits. Have been feeling very inspired by him and now kind of looking forward to 15 mile MN marathon madness!

Supposed to be out ruinning tonight but DD bit under the weather today and she might not tolerate me leaving her. We shall see... Weather hideous.

Themasterandmargaritas · 22/03/2010 13:58

Everyone seems to be suffering .

We need some positive vibes going to cheer on Twink who will easily manage her Triathlon, and boost all those with injuries.

Tut, are back up and going?

15k for me today. It went swimmingly and I managed 1hr and 29 so I am very pleased.

peachsmuggler · 22/03/2010 16:03

Very nicely done master. I salute you!

Didn't make it out on Friday after all but did 8 miles yesterday.

Was really swithering about doing 12 as doing 15 next weekend for MN marathon, but decided that, psychologically at least, I would be better waiting for the day itself to do a reaaaaly long run.

Right. Off to e-mail my friends and fam and ask for sponsorship!

popsycal · 23/03/2010 14:16

So so so sorry I have not beenaround. Severalthings in reall life have been taking up my time - feeling bad about not being around to rev people up for MN Marathon.

But here I am!
Hope I can do 15k!!!

Welcome back Popsy! You'll do great!!!

soyabean · 23/03/2010 21:42

Hi all havent been around MN but will be running on Sunday as promised and have directed sponsors to the page. Good luck to all!
Peachsmuggler I stayed up late for me on Sunday night to watch Eddie Izzard and agree it was amazing. I really like him anyway and I agree it was inspiring. I am aboiut the same age as him and it made me wonder what would happen if I just set off to run a marathon one day rather than my usual 5k or max 10k... I will probably never find out as I dont share his will power (and my family would wonder where I'd gone) but it kind of made me thibk if he can do it, maybe I could too.

Anywasy will be imagining everyone else on Sunday, whizzing around. I will not be whizzing as I have missed a couple of weekends due to sore back/visitors and other excusesreasons.

MrsWednesday · 24/03/2010 22:40

I'm all set for Sunday. I'm aiming for 15k too but have only managed 8.5 miles so far (and that was last Sunday).

Had internal battles tonight about going out for a run - finally forced myself out the door at 8 and really enjoyed it. Must remember this in future when I resort to wine in the evening instead of running...

Good luck to everyone on Sunday, hope all injuries are healing quickly and that training is going well.

Twink · 24/03/2010 22:49

Did a fast 5m tonight, slow 6m last night but my big anouncement is that my swimming has finally turned a corner! (Yes I know this is a running thread but..)

I've always been very worried about my swimming as although I can breaststroke for ever, my crawl was truly dire and I need to be able to do it to save my legs for the cycle & run. I've been doing sets of 2 lengths and had got to 10x2; obviously have a huge mountain to swim up but yesterday I did sets of 4 lengths and managed 7 so over a quarter of the way there, I CAN do this!! Biking going ok but I've only 12 weeks to go and v worried about the gap between now and then..

fishie · 25/03/2010 10:27

well done twink. how is your crawl technique? it might be worth having a lesson.

i am going to get new shoes tonight and try 10k tomorrow. i was ok on 8, do we think that i can manage 15k on sunday? (getting back into things after 5 weeks ill - previously i was fine on 10m).

peachsmuggler · 25/03/2010 14:06

Hey fishie, yeah I think if you were previously ok, you'll be able to do 15k.

I think you do retain a fair amount of fitness, and especially when it comes to distance, it feels like your body remembers how to do it!

Am running on Saturday by the way, due to RL things on Sunday. Supposed to be pissing down. Ah well....

TutTutter · 25/03/2010 14:13

hi all. sounds like you're all going great guns for the mn marathon - well done

a big dose of ibuprofen before the reading half last week seemed to do the trick - i had a great race and made 1:43, which is on track for a sub-4hr VLM

BUT i think i overdid it a bit (painkillers masking leg problem?) because couldn't run on tuesday - hobbled a few miles at snail pace but was really quite pathetic. have been stretching since, and managed a slightly-better trot today, but i think i need to rest a bit and stretch a LOT if i want to make another 20 mile training run next week

Twink · 26/03/2010 23:27

Fab effort Tut, just be careful not to go off too fast at London and you'll be fine.

Everyone you know who has done it will tell you that and you'll go 'yeah, yeah of course I won't' but the reality is, that you will, unless you concentrate hard on a steady start.

It's so easy to get carried away with the occasion & you feel invincible - but only for the first 6 miles or so.

Far better to go steady and feel you can maintain it than to run out of steam and have a lousy last 6m.

Another thing I was told was to look at a first marathon as a 20m training run followed by a 10k race and NEVER think of it as 2 half-marathons. HTH! x

TutTutter · 27/03/2010 09:38

thanks twink. wise words

GOOD LUCK to all of you doing the MN relay marathon. am off to find out how to donate xxx

popsycal · 27/03/2010 16:42

peachsmuggler · 27/03/2010 18:11

Did my 15 miles today and it was....ok actually. Did it in 2.32.13 and was very chuffed with the time.

The last couple of miles were hard, but was expecting this as having only ever run 13 before, I guess my body didn't know how to do 15 and was thinking "what's going on here". Just gritted my teeth, thought about my mum and also Mr Twink and made it.

Feeling a little leg sore and pretty exhausted but going a little recovery run tomorrow and hopefully there won't be too much lasting damage!

Good luck everyone who is running tomorrow!

Tut am in awe of your Reading time, you'll do great in London. Very excited for you!

popsycal · 29/03/2010 12:09

i have really damaged my knee
well not my knee but thew bone onthe outside edge of my knee if that make sense.
it is making me feel sick

will give it until tomorrow then off to a and e for me
doesnt feel muscular/ligaments/cartlidge - had lots of knee prblemsin my teens and early twenties

OP posts:
fishie · 29/03/2010 12:16

Popping in to say hello.

Well done everyone on MN marathon - I have apologised on the other thread for not doing my bit - we got back from skiing saturday evenin and then dd2 came down with chicken pox sunday so I was dashing around sorting stuff for this week as i wouldn't be able to get out much. Am happy to do my bit next weekend though (and have donated).

Well done on reading Tut ! You were just behind my brother !!

Hope knee is better pops.

I haven't run for a while what with being away, injuries and illnesses. Must get back to it this weekend. Missed getting a place in the royal parks half so definitely think I'#m just going to aim a bit lower and go for the kingston 8 miler in october (with maybe run10K in sept).
