I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

maybe drop back a couple of weeks and do two runs from that week and the next week rather than three, and see how that goes?

notafeckingclue · 21/09/2009 08:10

ok i feel less of a moody cow today but only a bit less - i am not accepting defeat i am going to step back to week 4 and go for it from there with a view to sticking to it and getting there before the new year! I think it will get more difficult with the dark night coming but i will just have to go and invest in a nery ilumino yellow vest . So its not really couch to 5k in so many weeks its like with in a year for me!

notafeckingclue · 21/09/2009 08:11

oops that was me Nappyzone by the way lol!

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 21/09/2009 19:12

My bro in law did the great north run yesterday in 1hr 40 and asked if i fancied doing it next year - i nearly pmsl!

lulalullabye · 22/09/2009 00:17

I ran at the gym yesterday and found it so much easier. was doing it with personal trainer and did intervals and stuff, but I think the treadmill sort of helps you along.

IdrisTheDragon · 22/09/2009 13:09

Am doing another 5k run with lots of people on Sunday 4th October

Need to go running again tomorrow - haven't run since Saturday (and that was a bit shorter than normal)

Skimummy · 23/09/2009 09:12

Hello all!

I have been absent from the thread but not from running! I have managed to overcome my knee problem (thanks Lula for recommending a patella band - seems to have really helped) and have done some consistent 30 min runs. My Nikeplus tells me that I have also run 5kms! Yay! Mind you, last night was the first time I have managed to do it without feeling like I was going to spontaneously combust. I have also had to modify my route given that it is dark when I go out during the week...

Now I just need to find a good 5km run to do to feel like I am officially no longer a couch potato.

Hope everyone is going well - hang in there Nappyzone, I had a big break and just started off again where I left off. It was a struggle but I got there in the end.

cyteen · 26/09/2009 14:26

Hello all I have finally started! Did my w1r1 this morning, it was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My mood has been lifted

cyteen · 29/09/2009 09:12

Been out again this morning, all good

lulalullabye · 29/09/2009 11:47

Hi cyteen, I am still reading the thread but not running at the moment due to injury. Have to abstain for another week and then I am off.

Good running and WHERE IS EVERYBODY ELSE !!!!

ShrinkingViolet · 29/09/2009 11:53

I'm reading but not running this week as I have deadlines and meetings and goodness knows what else. Will get back into it next week I promise!
(I'm not here really, I am actually writing an assignment which is due in tomorrow, and i have another 2000 words to write)

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 29/09/2009 19:18

Yey Cyteen - the first rush of enthusiasm is fab - hope yours stays unlike mine (though i have been doing this since about ermmm march lol! )- i forced myself out tonight and did week 6 (yes week sodding 6) but took myself back to run 1 so 5mn, 8 min then 5 min run again and i did ok - it was about my level apaprt from mid way when suddenly it went quiet and my mp3 which is held onto me by elastic had snapped and flew off - coupled together with my sports earphones which dd stood on and are wrapped in white masking tape i must look a hoot! Roll on my bday when i demand an ipod shuffle tiny thingy!

What you all doing about the dark nights - staying in or braving it in illuminous gear?

Skimummy · 02/10/2009 11:14

I am still here...just went for my first run this week last night! It was a bit of a struggle after a 5 day break but managed to puff my way to a bit over 30 mins. As it is dark I kept the run very public, which is not ideal for me but I think gave me added motivation to keep going. The only downside was that this involved two big flights of stairs and going up a steep ramp - I was exhausted!!

I think I should probably get some high visibility gear though...

IdrisTheDragon · 03/10/2009 00:16

I am still running - do it while DD is at pre-school so not needing to worry about the dark. Have signed up to do a Reindeer Run in November at the same place as I am doign my run on Sunday.

Have signed up for 10k in November - so need to extend my runs a bit. Did 40 min on Thursday and just over 4 miles so feel 10km will be achievable. Am also considering doing 10k on October 24th as there is a global nikeplus run 10k that day. Would be interesting to see how long it would take me.

Can't decide whether to run tomororw (well actually today now) so I am in the right mood for it on Sunday. Will think more in the morning.

IdrisTheDragon · 03/10/2009 16:37

Did a little run of 2 miles . And according to Lance Armstrong who pops up on my nike plus commentary now and again I just recorded my fastest time for the mile

Also ran past DS's teacher from last year who will be DD's teacher after Christmas. Went past her twice as I overtook her (and a friend or sister I think) walking one way and then turned round and ran past her the other way. We smiled at each other. I felt glad I wasn't running further so my hair wasn't too wild and I wasn't actually dripping with sweat .

Am now feeling physically and mentally ready for the 5k tomorrow. Am hoping it doesn't rain...

lulalullabye · 04/10/2009 09:48

Hey idris, good luck for the 5k today. I am starting to run again tomorrow after a 2 week break due to shin injury. Will run at the gym and usually end up doing 5k so hopefully my leg will hold up. It os not sore now, so fingers crossed and I will be off.

Let us know how you got on and what time you did Idris.

IdrisTheDragon · 04/10/2009 17:04

Did my fastest ever 5k at 29 min 36 seconds . And it had Hills (well medium slopes but to me they were hills ).

Nicer than the RFL - not so many people and men as well which felt better too as well.

Am going to train for my 10k on November 29th now (well maybe not quite now). Think that will be a bit more hard work.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 04/10/2009 18:06

Well as i am utterly peed off with week 6 and rawb and because my earphones are now beyond repair i ditched rawb today - mapped out a 5k woute and went for distance rather than time - i covered the 5 k in 4 bursts of running with 3 walks in betwwen when my legs wouldnt move anymore - covered the route in 37 ish mins so i think this is the way to go for me . Once again though i am in and completely snot ridden - it really spoils it for me - i feel completely stuffed of cold and my noce is like a tap.

Skimummy · 04/10/2009 18:19

Well done Idris!

I managed to get out today. It was actually nice out being a bit cooler - helps the beetroot face - but it felt a struggle. Turns out I ran further and faster than before which was a nice surprise! I have an option to do a 5k run next weekend but it will be after a rather long trip...I am undecided but I can make up my mind the day before which I think is the best option. On the one hand, I am quite keen to do it as it will signal a sort of 'completion' but, on the other hand...what if I can't do it??!!

Hope everyone else is going well. Hang in there nappyzone - you did really well today!

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 04/10/2009 18:23

omg idris - under 30 mins!!!!! well done . I am aiming to do a parkrun 5k in a few weeks so ermmmmmmmmm pronanly about dec

lulalullabye · 05/10/2009 08:55

Blimey Idris, that is fast !! Well I ran at the gym today, easy with lots of rests and no pain in leg at all. Yipee. Will go out tomorrow night and try and do a ten minute run I think.

IdrisTheDragon · 06/10/2009 13:16

Hope you ten minute run goes well Lula

I did a 45 minute run this morning. It rained on me and was windy but I still managed to keep on going and had an average pace of (just) under 10 minutes/mile.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 03/11/2009 19:47

ooo i aint been on here a while and readign back always stuck on week 6 - anyhows complete withe new hi vis yellow jacket i tonight ran with a frined for the first time and did 5k!!!!! just under 36 mins and am well chuffed. My knees are creaky but i did it

InTheZenGarden · 06/11/2009 22:08

Oh well done nappy, that is fantastic.
I've not done much running recently, I confess, though I have just re-started this week. Not quite as good as you, but did 20 minutes fairly easily - and enjoyed it

Hope everyone else is still plodding along out there

giddykipper · 23/11/2009 21:54

Can I come back with my tail between my legs?

Just managed W5R1 tonight, I'm really chuffed that I've got further on than I ever have before.

I WILL do it this time.
