I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

I did a run and it was really good

was determined to go a bit faster and managed it

did nearly 3 miles in 30 min (I think 2.89) and at the end Lance Armstrong appeared congratulating me on my fastest mile so far .

Kept runnnv past dog walkers.

lulalullabye · 16/08/2009 00:39

How do you sync your chip with your nano ?? I have the sportband but can't link it to the nano. I have to listen to rawb, would be nice ti listen to my own music.

IdrisTheDragon · 16/08/2009 18:19

If you get a sensor and receiver thing fir the nano (I got the Nike + iPod kit from amazon) then it all works. Don't know if you can get a receiver on its own - you can get a sensor on its own to use with an iPod touch.

Have found my iPod to computer wire so will upload my runs later

..Hello..

I want to start this but haven't the nonce to be downloading stuff etc. I've printed off the schedule..is there anyone here who just times themselves and if so, do you literally just run with a stopwatch?

There's a 5km fun run in October which I'm thinking of entering. I'm reasonably fit (play netball to a decent standard although I'm only a GS ) - but I'd be interested to know if this plan works? It looks good...but personal opinion/recommendation is better.

lulalullabye · 17/08/2009 20:41

Hello crunchies. The plan definitely works as I am sure everybody will tell you. Most of us struggled to run for 90 secs at the beginning and can now run much longer.

In the beginning before I had my i pod, I used my mobile, as it had a stopwatch feature on it.

Good luck

nappyznozoneisalazyarse · 18/08/2009 11:16

Heelo Crunchies - the plan works - my friend does it with just aid of watch rawbb listening just makes it so much easier but the principle works without the fancy equipment........

Anyway it has been 17 days since my last run - i wont get out now till Saturday night. My toddler has some croupe thing going on and my dh is away till late Thurs and ermmmm my toe nail polish is a bit scuffed and the dog (i dont actually have a dog) ate my trainers........ you get the picture . Its a bit warm though for running.

Will defo run on Sat honest or yes bum kicking is allowed.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 18/08/2009 13:19

Thanks for your replies. I did the first run last night and carried my stopwatch. It worked ok for me and I managed it all! Am pleased.

IdrisTheDragon · 18/08/2009 14:55

Hello

I definitely think the plan works - I started it in April and can now "happily" run for 30 min and am getting faster. I think it should get used in schools for people turned off running by having to do horrible cross country runs where the fast people always go fast and everyone else goes slowly and gets shouted at by the PE teachers (or was that just me?)

Went for another run today - not such a nice run as Saturday but still OK. Along by the canal again. Am thinking of doing 5k in October rather than the 10k (it's the same event, you just go round once or twice) as I enjoy going that far and not sure I have enough time to actually be able to confidently go 10k.

Montifer · 18/08/2009 19:31

I did it, 20 mins without stopping!!!
And it wasn't that bad, considering it nearly killed me 2 weeks ago
Finally completed W5, it's only taken 3 weeks

Roll on W6

lulalullabye · 19/08/2009 06:35

Well done montifer. I think that once you get past 'your' sticking point, it seems easier. Mine now is about 2 mins and I feel like I am dying, then I can carry on for 30 mins. After that it changes from my lungs feel like they are going to explode, to my legs feeling like they are going to drop off !

Idris, I to am going to do a 5k in Oct, on the 15th, so we will have to cyber run. I just have to work on going faster now

tryingtocookacurry · 19/08/2009 08:04

well done monifer

Does anybody else find that running helps with the bowels??????

I'm not doing very well at the moment - and for some reason have to keep stopping still, just for 10-20 seconds and then I'm on my way again.

I've dropped Rawb and am now just trying to do 3 miles, but when the wrong way this morning and when I got home, I checked on mapmyrun and had only done 2.

Vulgar · 19/08/2009 10:53

Hello everyone!

i have been plodding along doing around 3k 3 times a week but today I pushed myself to do 5k which I did in 38 minutes.
If I didn't have to stop for calf stretches, i would have been a couple of minutes faster.

Not very fast but I'm sooo pleased with myself. Still got a few aches and pains but they eased off when i got into it.

welcome Crunchies - the plan definately works. It has taken me a good few months to get to 5k.

I love running now. i can't imagine not doing it. but I worry that my knees may not hold out as I have been blessed with crap ones.

worried27 · 19/08/2009 15:22

Just introducing myself, did W1D1 yesterday, little sore today, and am very very to say after the third 60 second run I wanted to stop. Lame I know. Hoping it gets better, I have signed up to a 5k in Oct..

lulalullabye · 19/08/2009 22:24

It does get so much better. I seem to be running at 6 min a k now, so on target to do 5k in 30mins. I did 4.5k last night in the 28 min run, so next week the big 5

IdrisTheDragon · 20/08/2009 00:20

Am impressed ar your pace lula not sure what my pace per km is but the fastest I've averaged for a 30 minutes or so run is a bit over 10 min per mile which is slower than 30 min for 5k.

VulgarAchesButCanRun5k · 20/08/2009 09:23

Idris - we sound like we run at the same pace! I can't tell you how pleased that makes me. I was feeling a bit of a slowcoach.

I'm somewhat envious of Lula's speed

lulalullabye · 20/08/2009 10:16

Might I just add that where I run ( beach track) has the wind behind it when windy, not so good on the way back though . Can't tell you how I run that speed but I don't seem to run anywhere near as fast as some of the people that pass me

lulalullabye · 20/08/2009 10:19

By the way vulgar, my knees when I started were very crap, and had to stop for a month. Have since discovered patella bands, which you strap around the bottom of your knee just under your knee cap. Thay have worked wonders. Also building up my quads has helped

VulgarAchesButCanRun5k · 20/08/2009 10:53

Ooo I will investigate patella bands.

Thanks for that Lula I am now envious of your beach track too!

I find if I'm running at my normal speed and are coming up behind to a man they will suddenly speed away from me . . .

Either I stink or they can't bear to be overtaken by an old bird like me!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 20/08/2009 12:29

I was supposed to do my second session last night but couldn't face it. . am going to do it tomorrow though - am determined.

I too will investigate patella bands. Vulgar if you find a link, would you post it?

Ta.

lulalullabye · 21/08/2009 10:53

I am sad ! I have had a slightly sore lower leg for a couple of weeks and have now developed a lump on the inside of my shin. Been to the quacks and she told me that I need an ultrasound and that I can't run for a couple of weeks . So it doesn't matter how fast you can run .

Anyway, will keep checking and let you know what the results are

Skimummy · 21/08/2009 11:52

25 minute run done - woo!

Admittedly it was pretty slow and some people ran past me like I was standing still .

However! On to week 7 which I am feeling much more optimistic about. I think I may be ready to ditch Raaaaawb and run to my own tunes - as soon as my Nike+ shoes arrive!! Never thought I would be excited about running shoes...

Sorry to hear about your leg lulalullabye, hope it is alright.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 21/08/2009 15:36

Sorry about your leg lulalullabye but best to do what the doc says. You'll be back at it in no time at all.

InTheZenGarden · 22/08/2009 08:19

Forgive me Rawb, for I have lapsed

Had a week off as I went to visit my parents and running never quite happened.

Should have done w6r3 (25 mins) on Sunday, but seeing as I had so long off, I repeated w6r2 (2 x 10mins) last night, will attempt 25 mins tomorrow

Well done skimummy on doing the 25 mins

And lula, so sorry to hear about your leg I know it's really tough, but I really would suggest following docs advice and not running til you're fully better. DH bust his knees a few years ago when training for a half marathon - he ignored the early signs and kept going, in the end he had to pull out of the race as he'd done too much damage Managed it the next year though

I don't get knee pain, but my knees are kind of "crackly" now, esp after running. Hard to describe, but it sounds like very quiet velcro when I bend my knees, walk up/down stairs etc. Not sure if I should be worried? It doesn't hurt, so I'm guessing it is OK....... I have a friend who does triathlons (crazy), I'll ask him when I next see him
