I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

Well Rita or Idris as you are now - I think you and Jack are inspirational even if you don't think so.

so there!

I did 4k in 25 mins today. I got the Nike+ working and this is what it says. quite pleased with myself although really hurt now.

i think the nike+ is about £20, maybe even a bit cheaper. Remember to get a little pouch for it too, about £5 off amazon, if you haven't got the shoes.

I'm being really geeky with it too. It so exciting when you go on to the website and it shows you how far you have run and what time per kilometer and there is a really slim lady runner whizzing along and I think that is what I look like.

but somehow, the truth is somewhat different

IdrisTheDragon · 22/07/2009 20:59

Have ordered my Nike plus and shoe thing

Am looking forward to immense geekiness

InTheZenGarden · 22/07/2009 21:40

I want to join in the geekiness! But I don't have an iPod, only a cheap and cheerful MP3, do I need an iPod? [sulks]

tryingtocookacurry · 22/07/2009 23:58

Well done Jack and Rita!

I have just come back from Majorca and am very proud to say that I ran twice whilst there! I was worried that I might lose my fitmess level.

It was beautiful scenery - it's going to be very boring now just running my usual route

I am really struggling getting off week 6 run 2 though!

Vulgar · 23/07/2009 18:55

zen- i think you do need an ipod. I've had a look at the booklet that comes with it and it supports ipod nano and ipod touch. Bummer.

idris - we can be geeks together

but remember, you have to have the Nike swoosh on your sensor facing upside on your shoe pocket.

Curry- glad you enjoyed running on your hols.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 23/07/2009 19:44

oooo arent you all getting technical!!! jack what the tesco jobby like? i am fed up of my watch jingling about now as my wrists must be slimming! Tonight i did a whopping 2.6km how pathetic is that!!! 20 mins out but not really a proper planned run - i ran to my friends glugged a pint of very welcoming water and ran back with dd age 6 in tow on her bike - i hoped she owuld be a motivation but gawd she can talk!! mammy my legs ache, mammy i bet i can run longer than you , mammy i bet i can run faster than you, mammy guess what i did today - grrrrrrrrrrrrrr as if she expected me to be able to talk lol! Anyway i didnt walk at all but then i was almost at 5 km so i should think i wouldnt!! i will go for a proper runny tomorow night . Oh she also couldnt cycle up an elevation so i had to push her too!!! jeez!

My little shoe pouch thing has come

But no thing to go with the ipod yet .

nappyzone I am sure if I went with DS age 5 on his bike it would be just like that (although he would probably beat me by miles ).

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 23/07/2009 21:01

she was about the right pace just to gobby! i need to make a new interesting route of 4k at least.

Did W4 R3 this evening and can't see how I'm going to manage W5 without my head exploding! 20 mins by R3
Most weeks up until now I've felt ready to move on, but can't say the 5 minute runs have got any easier this week. Sounds rather pathetic when you lot are cantering along for 20 - 30 mins at a time.
Please motivate me! (although not having to listen to Rawb's "op-ur-eighter" song is quite motivating in itself - god it was awful!)
Running in Majorca sounds lovely Curry.

JackBauer · 24/07/2009 06:52

Well done all!

I am that I haven't run since my race, went out this morning as couldn't sleep and did 24 mins, juts under 2 miles. I had to stop to walk and ended up taking the shortcut home again.

I feel like I have nothing to aim for so nothing to push me IYSWIM, must think what to do about that, can't enter another race, the 'proper' ones all do it in under 35 mins max, and I can't do that!

MOnty, first of all, get a new playlist! I foudn RAwb awful after week 5 and needed the extra push of decent fecking music!

r3 in that week really isn't that bad, take it slow and it's really doable, scroll back up the thread for inspiration, you can see us all doing it and being so pleased! Plus the next week you go back to walks, which helps

InTheZenGarden · 24/07/2009 07:36

Monty, I know how you feel. I'm a week behind you and did w3r3 last night. I'm not convinced I can do 5mins, I'm not even thinking about 20!! But as Jack said, they've all done it and been dead chuffed with themselves! - you can do it

I had my first bad run last night - you know, legs aching as soon as you start, knees creaking, constantly tempted to take the shortcut home, generally, can't be arsed! But I did it, so w4 starts on Sunday....

Jack - why don't you aim to do another 5k? A lot of marathons/half marathons often have a fun run that is about 5k. That way, there's no pressure to improve your time, as people will be doing it for fun rather than competition, you don't need to improve your distance, as you know you've already done it, but it gives you the incentive to kep the running up

canella · 24/07/2009 08:46

morning all!! have had a 10 day enforced rest from running - had strange fluey symptoms last week then a flood of a period at the beginning of the week (sorry -TMI!!)

so got back out this morn - I was rubbish!!! managed 2 x 8 mins but walked the rest!!!! that'll teach me to not run for 10 days!!!

but its my birthday today - i'm now in my late 30's!!! so felt i needed to start as i mean to go on and if i didnt go out today i'd never go out!

But to make it all nice a deer ran across the path i was runnning - awwww cute bambi!!!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 24/07/2009 09:29

Awww happy birthday Canella!

I have been looking at the park runs someoen linked to ages ago - they do em at parks all over uk for fun and free weekly so after i come back from my jollys im going to aim to do one a month and tryand beat my time etc.... ha ha - so probably wont ever happen then!

IdrisTheDragon · 24/07/2009 14:12

Happy Birthday Canella

my Nike thingy has arrived but seeing as it is a) raining and b) I have ds and dd around the place I will leave calibration until tomorrow I think.

Might try and find 5k runs around here but am still thinking about 10k in October.

IdrisTheDragon · 24/07/2009 15:29

Have just done walking calibration on our drive. Wearing one trainer and one bare foot. And a summery skirt and vest combination. Luckily no one saw me .

tryingtocookacurry · 24/07/2009 19:52

Happy Birthday Canella!

I tried doing week 6 run 3 today and didn't do very well. I really struggled and kept having to stop to walk evenjust for 30 seconds.

I feel like I've gone backwards!

I do agree with Jack about Rawb. I have downloaded some music on to my Ipod now and feel more motivated to run when I'm listening to it. I still listened to Rawb today until hesaid Iwas halfway through25 min runand thenturned round and switched to my music. (I do struggle not to sing when running along LOL)

Are there any free music sites to download from that anybody knows of?

JackBauer · 24/07/2009 20:14

Happy birthday canella!

Park runs is a fab site! That's just what I need to push me, shall pick a random weekend when I know DH is off adn then I can go over to Cardiff for a run, awesome!

Very jealous of all those with nike things but after paying 85 quid for my trainers I dont want to chop them in, plus I have no ipod

Am thinking about 10k but the training would take too long, half an hour is about all I can manage round SAHMness and DH shifts.

lulalullabye · 25/07/2009 10:14

Hello everybody. I have been slowly plodding along and my knees are still good. I am in awe of all of you who have done your races, well done. I will aspire to be there soon.

Quick question, can you download the podcast onto a shuffle ?? I have an old i pod mini that is dying so need a replacement

happy birthday canella

IdrisTheDragon · 25/07/2009 11:33

Hello

You can put the podcasts onto a shuffle.

Went out running mainly to calibrate new gadget, with DS on his bike. He is better over shorter distances, I am better at keeping going .

Will try and do a proper run tomorrow if I can ship everyone else out of the house.

IdrisTheDragon · 26/07/2009 12:27

Have done proper run. According to new gadget I was doing 10.34 min/mile . Did 2.75 miles I think. Not sure I entirely believe it but I was trying to go quickly

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 26/07/2009 17:10

idris have you compared the distance it says you did and the distance on gmaps? was it accurate? my bil was round today and he has a garmin one which is a bit cheaper.

Tryingtocookacurry i got to end of week 7 and then it all went tis up and now im permanently on week 6 - today i did week 6 run 2 and managed it fine in fact i started running a whole minute before the warm up ended. I just dont think i can run continuos for 25 mins again. I was back with rawb as well today - i like to listen to my own but i need to hear him say where everyone is at so i can gauge how crap or good im feeling. Is there any other mentor out there who is similar but different iyswim?

OP posts:
Vulgar · 26/07/2009 18:30

Idris - i'm doing 4k in 31 minutes which i'm quite pleased with. I get a bit confused tho' and I haven't bothered to calibrate my Nike+. I need to get more geeky

I did enter my weight and I burnt about 239 cals on my 3.50 km run today. But I am gonna eat that in cake later!

to be honest . . .and this will help a lot of you newbies that think you can't run for a long time . . . i still stop several times in the first 1.5 km to swig water. . .I keep my legs moving but i really need a breather and I feel a bit rubbish as a result. I'm fine for the last bit.

Do any of you folks that are running 3k plus, stop for very short times too?

IdrisTheDragon · 26/07/2009 23:29

According to gmaps it was about 2.7 miles I think (although can't remember exactly where I started and stopped). So I was going faster than normal I think

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 27/07/2009 10:26

ooo interesting ...... im tempted but need to do some research i think

OP posts:
tryingtocookacurry · 27/07/2009 11:34

Nappy, I am stuck on week 6 run 3as I don't feel I could do anymore just yet.

I am trying to do run 3 every time however I do keep stopping like Vulgar said, even if it's just for 10-20 seconds.

I am pleased with myself though for even getting this far!
