I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

WoooHooooooo Jack, well done you!

Sound like a nightmare, standing around in the rain and all, so double well-done to you.

Not so good about throwing up and blubbing, but they will be forgotten, the run won't! And do you still get a medal?? You'll look at that and grin for ages

So, the question is - are you going to keep the running up??

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 19/07/2009 17:41

Well done Jack

I did my race in 35 min and a bit ( not sure exactly how much as not sure when I went through the start line e IYKWIM).

It was dry most if the race but I had forgotten how many hills there are on the course. Had to walk a couple of times which I felt a bit with myself for but was better than having to stop.

Did an e cellent sprint at the end if I say so myself . Am going to sign up for a 10k race in October. Although this may be mad.

JackBauer · 19/07/2009 17:56

Well done rita!

I must be so slow if you walked and still beat me
I wasn't actually sick, but had to swallow it back down and spit a lot, and the blubbing was round the corner....so that's ok, I got my medal and goodie bag.
The wind was the killer, for the first k it was head on the whole way, and the worst was running with other people. Every time I got my speed up some dizzy bint stopped in front of me, a lot of times ot take phone calls and I had to body swerve, and then had to get my pace back.

Def going to keep running, maybe not 10k as the training would take longer and I barely have time for it as it is, but will do short runs in week and long runs at weekend for sure.
Might take a week off though

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 19/07/2009 18:51

Woo hoo well done you guys i feel so proud of my fellow runners

I have just been out and had a disastorous run - hurty calves, ran first half then walked majority of the rest as they did feel really tight to tearing point . Am blaming tiredness, to short a warm up and general lazy arsed on my behalf having been with the kids alone all day since 7am . Am giving myself a virtual kick up the ass and back tracking to week 5 with the man with the tiny shorts . Clearly i have no dicipline when left to go alone.

Well done again race for lifers

well done jack and rita - so fecking proud of you!!! you must be so fecking proud of yourselves!!!

nappy - whats going on this week - you've not had a good few days! maybe just go stick to doing week 6 runs then try again on your own?

i felt poorly for most of last week (not swine flu!!) but def back to normal so going to attempt a 25 min run tom! main prob i have is running out of route! i like to run in a circle that takes me away from my house, through the forest and fields then straight back to my house! but its only 1.68 miles and i can run it in less than 20 mins! but if i keep going then i'll be back in the village and looking like a beetroot while trying to talk in a foreign language is not a good plan!!

will have to really think where else i can go!! need to get an extra mile somehwere!

canella · 19/07/2009 19:46

oh i must have no imagination cause i'd never thought of what rawb looked like except that he had a permatan and white teeth!!

InTheZenGarden · 19/07/2009 20:48

Well done Rita, great stuff. Can't believe you're going for a 10k, gives me hope (have just done w3r1!)

Thanks Jack for the extra info on swallowing sick

Nappy, sorry to hear it didn't go so well for you, hope things pick up

Canella - I am so jealous that you run through forests and fields, you get no sympathy from me that you can't find the extra mile I run through a housing estate Not a bad one, but still, it ain't forests and fields

btw, I also think Rawb has a beard......

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 19/07/2009 21:01

inthezen i runthrough a housing estate too which is a tad boring i agree - i do pass lots of other runners though and often wonder if they are mumsnetters

OP posts:
LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 19/07/2009 21:41

I have various routes depending on how the fancy takes me . Some have houses and sometimes there's fields. No hills though (due to flatness of Bedfordshire) which was not good in the hill of St Albans today).

One more question about the nike thingy vulgar - do you need to have your ipod with you when you are running or can it "catch up" when you get back? Don't really want to takr the ipod touch out running with me.

Montifer · 19/07/2009 21:42

Well done Jack and Rita, what a fantastic achievement and for such a good cause too.

Zen - sorry, you are being optimistic, Rawb's music gets progressively worse, W1 is his inspirational climax IMO.

Here's Rawb - really wish I hadn't looked. Hopefully the mental image of him in his too short shorts will distract me from the discomfort of the increasing running intervals.
Definitely nearly time for my own running tracks I think.

InTheZenGarden · 19/07/2009 22:08

Oh god, monty, it's far worse than I imagined.... that doesn't inspire me to run at all....

But as you say, he has done a damn good job at getting us all out and running, so good on him

Bad, bad music this evening though.... my schoolday revision timetable thing is set to emerge in planning-the-best-running-music-soundtrack ever

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 19/07/2009 22:19

I just looked more and it was his birthday yesterday

Montifer · 19/07/2009 22:43

Aw, many happy returns to Rawb!!

I'd love to see your running revision timetable soundtrack Zen, I was going to have a look at this thread when I've got time and see if it inspires me.

I'm currently running with a crap and ancient MP3 player that is heavy and bangs around when I running.

Am torn between a Shuffle and a Nano, but have also heard that iPods are a bit overrated and tend to break quite easily. Any opinions / advice anyone?

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 19/07/2009 22:46

I have a selection of ipods . Have a nano, a shuffle and a touch.

Used to run with the nano with an arm strap thing. Have recently got a shuffle specifically for running with as you can clip it on. Have my touch for playing with .

Haven't had any problems with breaking.

Montifer · 19/07/2009 23:04

Thanks Rita - I'm erring towards a Shuffle as I don't fancy an arm strap and I like the lightweight clip it on design, wondered if it would be a pain not being able to see what was playing / coming up. It also describes my current running style

canella · 20/07/2009 10:37

oh i wish i'd not looked at rawb - he looks more unhealthy than me!!! where's the bright teeth!!!also now having thoughts of whats under his kilt!!!!!!

i find running to music bores me - i'm just not distracted enough so think about the time left too much!! so last few times i've run while listening to podcasts of radio shows - made the time go so much quicker especially cause the show was quite funny!!

zen - sorry i made you jealous of my nice routes! it is beautiful round here - live in a national park in bavaria - sorry think i'm rubbing it in now!!! just like the solitude of running here - maybe its cause i'm so unfit but i would hate to run with someone else in case they realised how knackered i am at the end! so running here means i never see another soul!! heaven!

Vulgar · 21/07/2009 13:52

Well done Jack and Rita. You are both so inspirational.

I'm desperate to do a 5k run now!

Nappy - you are just having a bad spot. I did but I'm a whole lot better now. hope you are hurting less soon. It is sooo frustrating when this happens.

rita - I thi k you need to take the ipod too as it has a little bit that plugs into the ipod and the sensor that plugs into your shoe.

Mind you I was VERY DISHEARTENED when i read on the ipod screen that i had only done 0.66 km in 30 minutes.

Even I'm not that crap . . turned out that I had the sensor upside down in it's little pocket.

Here's hoping it works when I go out tomorrow.

BTW - i always imagined Rawb wore one of those white sweatbands across his forehead a la Rambo.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 21/07/2009 16:49

urghhh hes so not what i was expectign - going to go back a few weeks and continue with him though to get it back - the weeks music i deteste is the one where near the end you are dying of exhaustion and it has noise of running water which makes you even more thirsty or need a pee

OP posts:
InTheZenGarden · 21/07/2009 18:39

Oooh, don't like the sound of running water!!

It has finally gone from torrential downpour to drizzle here, so I am off out now

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 21/07/2009 19:00

I feel and at the thought of being inspirational!

Am going to get a Nike thingy I think. Need to get back into the swing of running. Could go in a while I suppose as DH is home and we all ate together. Maybe he can put children to bed on his own [evil emoticon].

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 21/07/2009 19:02

tell me what a nike thingy does and costage please

OP posts:
InTheZenGarden · 21/07/2009 19:26

For the first time, it feels like my legs are limiting me, rather than my lungs Lots of stretching, hope I don't ache too much tomorrow!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 21/07/2009 20:26

I did my run - 2.75 miles in 31 min

DH is still putting children to bed. I am letting him get on with it

JackBauer · 21/07/2009 22:30

at inspiration. Haven't been out again since Sunday!

I did save up some cash for a treat for myself if I managed to run whole thing, and I just bought a heart rate monitor with watch thingy from tesco, along with running jacket as I figure I am not running for time/distance now but purely for health.

Have to admit to having worn it most of the day, it's quite interesting

IdrisTheDragon · 22/07/2009 12:01

Have changed back to my original (ish) name (it is the poster who until very recently was LovelyRita ).
