I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

Hello everyone - i feel as though im really slacking once i get out there - tonight i was 1m in of a 2m route and opted for a 20 second walk then ran a tiny bit more then had another and then another then another - all in all i ran including my little walking moments for a mere 22 minutes and covered just 2miles which is way off the 25 mins non stop i was managing a week or so ago. I think i need a kick up the ass or to go back to week 6 AGAIN!! ALso when will i start to lose bloody weight and when will my feet ever be nice and soft agagin as im finding this running is drying out my feet

Jack - have you sorted your childcare? Could you ask Bil to take them to playground (briefly, warn him about possible escapees!) then meet them at the end and all head of to a pub garden or a cafe for a drink and a snack? That way you and your sister get to enjoy the end and you don't have to just take over at the finish line? Ask Bil to take dc in his car and meet you at pub / cafe?

I did 20 mins today (wk5r3)!! Am so chuffed, I never thought that I'd be able to do it! (I was very very slow by the end, but I didn't stop)... also, am doing less fly-catching so I am hoping that my breathing is automatically correcting itself .

Nappy - I have lost a teeney bit of weight, but I think that it is from feeling quite noble when I get back from a run and then being good food-wise for the rest of the day. It still means that 4 days out of 7 are pretty bad, but it is making a little bit of a difference! Foot wise, Flexitol (or cheap Boots equivalent) works pretty well.

JackBauer · 15/07/2009 20:52

Well done Super! I rememebr the feelign after that 20 min run, I felt Invincible

Last training run tomorrow and then race on saturday

I also found out today that it is not int eh same place it has been for the last few years but is actually being held in and around my DH's work, which is very child unfriendly. So I can't take kids, and BIL has nowhere to stay with them, so he can stay at home and go to local park if he must.
Dh is not happy as he has to work around us all running/walking round his work all morning, haha.
#He has sent me the route thouhg, very nice, all seafront and nice flat paths, lovely!

Nappy, I find that if I don't let myself stop and just slow to a very slow jog then I can keep going, once I have walked once then I keep stopping, it's like my brain is going 'fuck it, you've walked once....do it again'

Have now lost 9lb in week 9 of running. very chuffed. Although was more chuffed when I thought I had lost 14 but it turned out the scales were sitting on a button and not working right

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 15/07/2009 21:17

Jack hope you get something sorted - remember its your day (morning) and enjoy it!

Yes thats exactly what my brain does !!

I need to do more running before Sunday. Hopefully Friday.

Isn't your race on Sunday as well JackBauer?

I agree with the walking and then just keeping walking.

Need to find my race number - this happens every year

JackBauer · 16/07/2009 14:57

Yup, sunday it is.

Just done last 'practise' run, 2.2 miles in 27 minutes, which is over 12 mins a mile, bit bad for me but I didn't sleep well so...whatever!

On a plus note as I normally run first thing so I get back before everyone is up this is the first time DH has seen me after a run in weeks (all the daytime runs were when his parents/bro were here so has been abotu 3 weeks) and he is in shock at the difference.
He was shocked that I had gone 27 minutes without stopping, only walked for about 30 seconds to cool down before coming in (it';s bucketing down and yet I was able to have perfectly normal conversation with him without gasping or dying

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 16/07/2009 19:34

Went out tonight ran for 22 minutes then ran out of route and leg power - was determined not to walk though but only covered 3k which is a bit crap - hey ho!

good luck jack & rita for your race on sunday - i'm sure with all the support and everyone running together then you'll run the whole way!! cant wait to hear how you get on!!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 17/07/2009 14:28

Did my running this morning. I did 3.1 miles in 33
minutes which was 10. something min per mile

Hope I can repeat it on Sunday. Having water helped I think.

InTheZenGarden · 17/07/2009 19:42

Rita and Jack - good luck for Sunday!

Just done w2r3, so downloading w3 for Sunday!

I was cursing Rawb as I ran, him in Northern California, I imagine it sunny and blue skies, perhaps a light breeze blowing in from the ocean. This evening I was running in a cold Midlands rain, and it was pretty miserable. But I did it, and it was much easier than run 1, so I must be progressing

JackBauer · 17/07/2009 20:26

God, well done Rita! Have been holding off ont eh 3.1 miles until sunday.
I have never run with water and my mum says not to do it on sunday. I am worried it will mess with breathing etc as I am not used to having it. Does it make that much difference? I do sometimes have a dry mouth but not desperate for water.

Well done Zen. I always found it great to be able to see my progress. Was just talking to my mum and she was saying that after my wk1r1, which I did at her house, when I couldn't breathe afterwards, collapsed on her floor and thought I was actually dying, to be able to run over 2 miles, for 28 minutes, in 10 weeks, without stopping is a massive achievement. And do you know what? She is right!
So all you lurkers on this thread, I will repeat what I have said before.
I couldn't run up my own stairs at home, I couldn't walk to school and back for 10 minutes pushing a buggy without being out of breath, I was a size 22 and desperately unfit.
And now, I reckon I can run this 5k without stopping (although am still mega nervous) so what have you got to lose!

Superduperloopthelooper · 17/07/2009 22:27

Aww, Jack!! It truly does make a difference reading about how well you are all doing!

It has only just dawned on me that a lot of you are doing the RFL, and that this is why you are doing the C25K, duh!! I started it because I couldn't keep up with my 5 year in the park, which was quite depressing. I have no idea how fast I am going or really how far I have run (I am just dictated to by Rawb!) but I am really proud that I've stuck with it to week 6 .

Good luck with your RFL Rita and Jack, am sure you'll both be brilliant...are you going to keep up the running when it's over??!!

Vulgar · 17/07/2009 23:38

Hello everyone, good to see you are all doing so well. It seems to be up and down for most of us for one reason and another.

I have been on holiday for 2 weeks and just before I went I tripped over my own foot and twisted my knee (but not badly.) how stupid and embaressing. Well i got back up as it was only 3 mins into my run and did about 2k.

first day of hols got up early, ran along the beach, loving it 'cos it was so beautiful. Managed to do about 5k -felt fantastic although aches and pains.

Next day, knee huge. decided to stop for hols but we walked a hell of a lot anyway.

At airport on the way home treated myself to Nike sensor to plug into ipod and clip on to laces. I hope you are all impressed, I spent the last of my holiday money on this rather than big bottle of gin.

I've done 2 runs so far, one with the sensor but I was fretting that it wasn't working so I only managed a shameful 1.13k in 20 mins plus I had Ds on his bike and he kept bothering me.

I'm feeling bothered by my lack of progress and all the stupid aches and pains. . . grrr!

Vulgar · 17/07/2009 23:42

BTW -good luck for this weekend Jack and rita

JackBauer · 18/07/2009 08:24

I am impressed Vulgar, no booze or fags or cheap makeup? Or toblerones?! That's dedication!

I have a cold starting which I am really cros about, am going to load up on water and sudafed today and tomorrow morning so that I can breathe through race!

Super, I had no idea how far/fast I was going until about your stage. I signed for RFL as an incentive so that I wouldn't just stop when it got hard!

Vulgar · 18/07/2009 10:36

Jack - i did buy some cheap make-up and am "helping" Dh with the bottle of vodka he bought.

I really hope your cold doesn't get worse! good luck!!!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 18/07/2009 10:54

Do you have to have special shoes for the Nike thingy or does it work with whatever you have? Am tempted to get one to go with my iPod touch but not if ihave to get new shoes.

Am thinking about doing a 10k in the autumn...

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 18/07/2009 22:01

Have found my race number

Think I am ready for tomorrow. Am going to have an early night and hope for a dry and not too hot day in St Albans for tomorrow.

Hope your race goes well JackBauer

Vulgar · 18/07/2009 22:11

Rita - you do not have to have the special shoes for the Nike sensor. you can buy a little neoprene sleeve that sits on top of your laces and the sensor sits inside. Costs about a fiver from Amazon.

I'm thinking about doing a 5k in the autumn (not ready for 10k for a while I think)

Montifer · 18/07/2009 23:12

Good luck Jack and Rita, hope you enjoy your RFL. Both of you have been a huge inspiration for me to get going and keep going, look forward to hearing how you got on.

Just done W4 R1, 5 mins is a bit of a shock to the system, had a bit of a beetroot face by the end. I'm sure by run 3 it'll be OK again, hope so, W5 looks like a bit of a killer!

Zen , I've never considered Rawb running down palm lined boulevards before, think I'm starting to feel a bit of resentment now. What with th running location envy and the worsening music quality I can fully understand why a lot of people seem to part company with him by W6. However, he must be heartily congratulated for getting so many of us off the couch and upto the 20 min running stage. Good luck for W3.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 19/07/2009 09:10

Good lucj Jack and Rita - hope all goes well

Montifer - I think I thought about it too much, but I also suspect he's the kind of guy who wears running shorts that are slightly too short, you know?

Week 2 music was boring, am hoping w3 is better, but I'm not too optimistic. I'm already planning what my running playlist is going to be, DH is insistent I download the Rocky theme music

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 19/07/2009 12:35

yes your right i bet he does - those black tight numbers urghhhhh - i really want that downloaded too to come on for the last 3 mins of my run so i know the end is nigh

OP posts:
JackBauer · 19/07/2009 16:15

I did it! No stopping, 5k, in 39mins and 56 seconds. And then I crossed the line and threw up and 5 minutes later burst into tears double
As a plus that is fairly conclusive evidence that I pushed my self as far as possible. I took some sudafed before the race as I was a bit bunged up and I was ok but am starting to sniffle again now.
We had torrential wind and rain before the race, and the course had cars on it so we did our warm up and then had to stand in the rain for 20 minutes while they sorted it! That was not good. But it tailed off and the sun came out while we were running.
Will stop banging on now, but I am soooo chuffed with myself! 10 weeks ago I could never have dreamed of running 5k! and now I have done it!

Hoo-rah!

And I totally agree that Rawb wears small shorts, and I reckon no top with a small water/rucksack on his back. The loser
