I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

I'm new to this post but was a keen poster last year when mumsnet's couch to 5k thread got me running for the first time ever at the age of 38. It was really hard work but I learnt to love it and did my race for life in 34 minutes. I promised myself I'd keep running but I didn't unfortunately but I've been secretly reading this thread over the last few weeks and its inspired me again. This morning I'm off for my race for life - I'm a bit nervous again and wish I'd done more training but being able to do any jogging is such a big acheivement for me I'm sure I'll feel proud whatever my finish time and I'd like to say good luck and feel proud to all the new 'runners' out there. Go Girls x x

JackBauer · 14/06/2009 09:23

Aitch, I'm not going to lie and say it's nto that bad, as it is, but if you plan your route beforehand for the 2 miles rather thna a pedometer it might be easier as I knew there were 2 more streets to go and so on.
Plus I would slow right down every 5 or so minutes for a couple of minutes so I was barely above a walk, but still jogging, to use that as my recovery/brisk walk time, I coujlnd't have kept going at that speed the whole way.
And if you can, have the last half mile downhill

Good luck, you can do it, just make sure there is enough on your mp3 so you don't get repeats, that's depressing when it cycles bzck round!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 14/06/2009 14:09

debbiewebweb where did you do it at? I did mine this am at darlington it was fab. Welcome back anyway.

Anyhows everyone i managed and my ankle held up - it was boiling hot 22 degrees and alot of the run was on uneven grass which held me up mostly as i was flapping incase i went over on my ankle which was strapped up to the hilt! Soooooooo i did it in 33mins 33 seconds but did have a few mini walks in there - i am so chuffed chuffed chuffed that i managed to run alot of it . Ankle niggling now so i have ice on it and im going to rest it now like a good girl like mr hunky physio said.

Naughty nappy!
Am very impressed by 33 mins 33, I am not sure what time to set, but was hoping it would be under 40, so that is very impressive to me!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 14/06/2009 19:07

i aimed for 45 mins so i was pleased enough. I feel good and so does my ankle - its certainly no worse than it was. I raised £154 in sposorship as well .

When is anyone elses rfl?

AitchTwoOh · 14/06/2009 21:35

well done nappy! and thank god the ankle held up, you reckless fool.

debbie, hope yours went well too.

i did my crappy 2 mile thing, managed it okay, unfortunately where i live, jack, it's pretty hilly so impossible to avoid an incline. my pal was with me, i think i'd have wimped if she hadn't been there. don't know how long it took, unfortunately, as i didn't take my watch cos i knew i'd just keep looking at it. i think it was probably about 25 or so mins, possibly a wee bit more given my striking speed.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 14/06/2009 22:02

Well done nappy

My RFL is on 19th July

debbiewebweb · 15/06/2009 08:18

Well done Nappy.
It's a fantastic feeling isn't it. I did mine at Loughborough, yes it was boiling hot, did it in 33 minutes too. Which was a bit better than last year, with a lot less preparation, so I'm really chuffed. I did a couple of little walks - mainly up the hilly bits. Will be doing it again next year .
Good Luck everyone.

canella · 15/06/2009 09:05

well done nappy and debbie on your RFL!!! but nappy you do know i've got my physio head on and i'm going to tell mr hunky physio that you ran when we said not to!!!!! but as long as it doesnt feel worse it was maybe worth it for you as you'd really wanted to run it!!!

and well done jack - so proud of you for running all that time!!!! it must be great to see the changes in your body - i'm patiently waiting for mine!!! i've only lost 1 pound in 3 weeks and i'm eating well!!! and as well as the running i've been walking on other days and going to step aerobics!!but my clothes are fitting better!! i only want to lose 10lbs and i remember the last time it took me ages to lose this weight - i'd lost the first 10lbs much easier!!

well i've been out and done w4r1 this morning and managed all the runs!! even the 5 min ones!! but i ran out of route this time - had to turn round and do a little bit of it again!!! must be running too fast !

JackBauer · 15/06/2009 09:57

Good one aitch, and canella.
I feel your pain though aitch, I live in Wales, which is just one big fecking hill. And I live on the side of one, so whichever direction I run off in I have to go uphill at some point, and then it just changes gradient with no prior warning, which is just rude

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 15/06/2009 10:29

Yes debbie the feelign was good and glad i did some preparation or i would have still been there - it is a good feeling running past walkers before i walked . 33 mins is a respectable time i feel . The girl who won ours was 12 - dying to know how quick she did it in for the shame factor lol

canella i consider myself bollocked but i have no aches or pains today and my ankle looks and feels fine - i think with 2 weeks off to make sure and if i do mr hunkys excersises starting today i could be out sooner than anticipated. I will probs go back to week 6 and build up again so i can actually one day run 5k without walking.

canella · 15/06/2009 14:07

oh fecking nora - i've dislocated my little toe!!!!!! this is the fourth time its happened but the first time this summer!!!!

it sooooooo sore!!! and i cant get it to pop back in!!! just wanted to moan about it!!! will hobble around till dh gets back!

once its back in its painfree so hopefully it'll be right before my next run on weds!!

JackBauer · 15/06/2009 14:08

Oooooooh, ouch!
When is your Dh back? Do you need him to pop it back in?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 15/06/2009 14:47

ooo owww that hurt me just reading it - hope your tootsies ok and back in its rightful socket soon.

OP posts:
canella · 15/06/2009 15:13

dh not back till after 5 - he's a doc but not the orthopaedic kind!! maybe he can sort it!! we've just moved to germany as well and i've no idea how the hospital system works - hope they've got some kind of A&E i can go to!!!

the instant it goes back in its painfree but i need a crystal ball to guess when that might be - its too fecking sore to put it in myself!!!

tryingtocookacurry · 15/06/2009 17:53

PLease, please help me! I am getting very frustrated. Why can I not download the podcast thingy on to my sone MP3 player. Please excuse me for sounding silly, but I have never used one of these before let alone downloaded anything on to it.

I did week 2 run 1 this morning and it is driving me mad having to look at my watch all the time to work out when to jog and when to walk. It would be so nice to listen to music too to take my mind of my stitch! LOL!

tryingtocookacurry · 15/06/2009 17:53

that should say my son's MP3 player

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 15/06/2009 18:58

you cant download podcasts onto a mp3 player, however along the top is a tab that says mp3 and its the same thing but in mp3 format.

OP posts:
tryingtocookacurry · 15/06/2009 19:26

Thank you - I have now found the MP3 tab and am trying to open but there is still a fault.

GGGGRRRRRR!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 16/06/2009 10:17

Hello

Have been plodding along with my longer training but felt I was getting slower so decided to do W1 with Rawb again today, but really make myself run in the running parts. Hard to tell exactly how far I went in the running parts but managed to co-incide with crossing over side roads for some and managed about 7.5 min/mile in some of them

As I seem to be doing about 11.5 to 12 min/mile when doing longer running that felt good

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2009 14:23

terrible run today, was supposed to do 2x15mins and just couldn't be arsed. had loads of breaks. bumped into our postie who runs 10k in 42 mins who assured me that sometimes this happens. has it happened to any of you?

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 16/06/2009 14:39

I have days where I can't be arsed. Generally just don't go then

Does your postman do his round at that speed? WOuld be great to have very fast postman

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2009 14:52

he is very speedy, it must be said. and Rather Buff.

bluerinsebeauty · 16/06/2009 19:33

Oh yes, I could not be arsed today, just did 5k on cross trainer, which is rather a lot easier than running and only takes 17 mins
