just to house the runners

Back from the Sheffield Half with renewed awe and admiration for the marathon runners: at 10 miles I thought 'great, only 3 miles to go', then 'shit, if I was doing the marathon I'd have SIXTEEN miles to go'

Hopefully they will all be safely home now, nursing sore feet but glowing with pride.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/04/2009 15:15

Well done MrsW

Popsy - I found this

sfxmum · 26/04/2009 17:02

hello all

well done mrsW

went out yesterday for 3 miles and again today after taking dd to party it was very warm and sunny and full of people walking slowly across the path but hey it was lovely

I have not done 3miles under 30min since before I got hurt with the ITLS thing, maybe I got scared

hope all the Marathon runner are well and safe, well done all
so what mad pace was that?

popsycal · 26/04/2009 17:04

Thanks for the 10k podcasts - will double check but have a feeling they are the same as I found lastnight

The one I have loks a bit funny - fastrun/slow run intervals which I am not used to

Themasterandmargaritas · 26/04/2009 17:48

I'm itching to know how the MN runners got on today. We have found out a good friend of ours from here won the over 45s and came 43rd overall .

In the half marathon we are doing in June, we have a team of 10 pitched against a team of 10 former Kenyan champion runners.

Luckily it's only our top 5 runners that count (consider me the 10th!!!) and this guy is on our team.

I downloaded one of the podrunner sessions but I feel they are a bit too ambient for me, I seem to get on better with The Killers.

hatwoman · 27/04/2009 00:29

Hi everyone - I am home and exhausted. it was absolutely fantastic. I loved every minute of it - I was on a total high all the way round - the support is just amazing. I did 4.32 which I'm completely delighted with. now it is time for bed...

giraffesCantRunA10k · 27/04/2009 01:53

well done!

Wallace · 27/04/2009 06:13

Well done

OrmIrian · 27/04/2009 07:37

Wonderful! Well done that hat....

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/04/2009 07:58

Fantastic Hatwoman!

Twink · 27/04/2009 08:58

Fantastic Hat, a really respectable time (keeps head down after briefly reading some of 'that' thread) especially on such a warm day.

So, when the euphoria and the 'never again' feelings die down, will you be entering again ??

Not forgetting Mrs W either in her half marathon - well done!

Don't be put off trying a marathon anyone: A marathon isn't made up of two half marathons, despite what logic suggests - it's a 20 mile training run followed by a 10k race ;)

Enter for next year here

sfxmum · 27/04/2009 09:17

wonderful hatwoman well done!

futurity · 27/04/2009 09:29

well done Hatwoman! Look forward to hearing more details. Am currently trying to log into the site to put name into ballot for next year!

Twink · 27/04/2009 09:40

Me too Futurity. Have you got past the Virgin welcome page yet? I go from there to an error page

futurity · 27/04/2009 09:44

this is the direct link I think:

www.virginlondonmarathon.com/marathon-centre/enter-2010-virgin-london-marathon/

still no joy...imagine it will be 11pm tonight before I get in!

MrsWednesday · 27/04/2009 10:12

Hatwoman, that is brilliant! Well done, you are a superstar

You must feel so proud of yourself.

Cheers for the link, I'm going to try and enter too.

Thanks Twink, feels a bit feeble after hearing about these marathon runners.

futurity · 27/04/2009 10:32

got to the page i posted and found another link!

www.virginlondonmarathon.com/ballot/uk/

still trying...

hatwoman · 27/04/2009 12:19

hatwoman surrepticiously tries to access the 2010 marathon page without dh seeing...(I'm undecided but there'll be no decision to make if I don;t even put in for the ballot...)

does anyone else think it's pretty daft for the ballot to open at the same time as the marathon? it's not as if they need to attract more applicants - all they'll do is attract more undedideds (like me). what's the point of that?

Well done hatwoman!

I'm just back in from a half hour run/walk and really enjoyed it - it feels so much easier than my first go a week ago - can't believe how quickly an improvement happens

OrmIrian · 27/04/2009 13:19

Well I've f*ed up my knee good and proper. Was agony towards the end of my run. I've also damaged my foot on that leg through trying to favour the knee. Somehow I've rubbed the skin off a patch on the inside of my right thigh - so sore. And I ran through some bloody nettles too and that is still tingling. I also have a really stiff neck and shoulder. And to cap it all my eldest smacked me in the nose with the hoover attachment

So I'm falling apart and can't see myself running this week .

26 miles seems totally incredible from where I'm sitting. My utmost respect to all you marathoners.

mileniwmffalcon · 27/04/2009 13:39

oh no orm hope you don't go too spare while you're waiting for it to fix.

fingers crossed for you would-be marathoners that they get the site back up and running (heh) soon. i watched yesterday for the first time ever (until the beginning of this year i can't think of anything that would interest me less ) and it was fantastic to be able to follow people i know (irl) and people i "know" (online) on the trackers. it was really inspiring, and whilst i haven't got my finger on the ballot button yet i would just love to be able to run like any of the runners i watched yesterday. so just perhaps i might have to review my no racing plan, gearing up for a half in october sounds almost possible...

i had a lovely rainy run this morning (i get too hot normally) and for a few seconds in the middle of one of my sprinty bits (doing fartleks, lol listen to me trying to sound like i have a clue!) everything clicked and it just felt fantastic. 30 seconds bliss out of 30-odd minutes isn't a bad start, just need to work on stre-e-e-etching it out a bit

mileniwmffalcon · 27/04/2009 13:40

btw meant to say good luck rasputin report back!

Twink · 27/04/2009 14:16

Finally made it through the Virgin application thanks to some tips from Runners World:

'Drop the 's' in the URL
Use Firefox, when you get booted off just resend and you don't have to start again
Don't bother with the realbuzz stuff, not a required field
All be aware, this is just the ballot, still less than a 1 in 5 chance.'

The Realbuzz stuff referred to is just a username & password for the online community which you'd be able to join later - not that we'll need it as we have our own version here thank you very much.

I guess I'll be the one in the fetching red rain jacket come October...

Twink · 27/04/2009 14:18

Bloody hell Orm, not your day! Huge sympathy, hopefully the bop in the nose wasn't hard enough to cause black eyes???
