doh! got as far as the realbuzz stuff and it had errors to do with what i had put in and then went to red screen saying the site has bee closed until later! SCREEEEEAM! Didn't realise it wasn't required field...was almost there!!

fishie · 27/04/2009 21:01

well done that hatwoman.

opening the ballot now means that people are more likely to miss out. so they have to fight over charity golden bond places and marathon organisers have to make sure there is demand or the charities wouldn't buy them. we've got 6 places and i'd love to have 60! they aren't cheap or easy to get.

orm you poor thing, painful and frustrating.

AtheneNoctua · 27/04/2009 21:08

OMG, hatwoman, you ran the marathon? Where have I been? How absolutely fab. Well done.

futurity · 27/04/2009 21:25

at last...got through and signed up for the ballot for next year!

MrsWednesday · 27/04/2009 21:55

And me . Fingers crossed that we all get in.

Orm, ouch to all your injuries. Hope the knee recovers quickly - are you going to see a physio?

Rasputin, good luck - or if I'm too late, hope the run went well!

Wallace · 28/04/2009 09:48

Ooops, I seem to accidently entered the ballot

mileniwmffalcon · 28/04/2009 10:02

lol, your finger slipped did it wallace?

Themasterandmargaritas · 28/04/2009 10:04

at all these entries. I could enter I suppose....

Poor you Orm. Can you manage some shorter and more gentle runs on a load of Ibuprofen?

I did a 'quick' 5k this morning in the sunshine. It was a bit hot though.

OrmIrian · 28/04/2009 10:09

Yep that is the plan! Loads of painkillers and stiff upper lip. Not giving in now.

Not with all these amazing people running 26 miles

sfxmum · 28/04/2009 11:10

hello good luck to the hopeful for next years marathon, you do realise you are quite giddy from Sunday's vicarious high don't you?

Orm hope the injuries subside I expect it is very frustrating

lovely 5k this morning sunny and not hot

happy running

Well done Hatwoman and MrsWed!

Well done Norky too. You'll be up to 10k in no time mrs!!!

CountDuck - I think the Hampton court 10k is at the start of October. It is on path and grass. I did it 2 years ago and it pissed down. Was very slippery!!!

Am back from 10 days up north and realise I have only run 3 times since my half marathon, 4 weeks ago . Will hopefully get out tomorrow, and see how unfit I have become. Eek

Twink · 28/04/2009 22:18

I don't think I've a muscle in my legs that's not aching tonight - not even got the marathon as an excuse!
Did a charity event Sunday, 10k treadmill run (how do you regular treadmill runners do it??!) followed by 42k on a stationary bike, then Body Balance & weights yesterday. Running club tonight was an hour's sprint session which was really tough. Even Mr T has suggested I should schedule a rest day, which is most unlike him!

NorkyButNice · 29/04/2009 08:53

Does anyone have any experience of clicky knee joints? My right knee clicks every time I put a lot of weight on that leg (eg walking up the stairs), so I'm sure it must do the same when I'm running, although I can't feel or hear it.

Should I be taking any precautions at these early running stages?

Off out for another jaunt in half an hour or so - I bought some running tights yesterday and am going to ignore them embarrassment of my bum wobbling all over the streets of London!

NorkyButNice · 30/04/2009 10:30

I guess I'm the only arthritic runner out there!

I did another run yesterday - I went to the park for the first time - brisk walk there, then half hour in the sunshine round the park, and a cool down walk back. It was so nice

My running tights were fantastic too - it really made a difference feeling more compact (does that sound silly?)

sfxmum · 30/04/2009 12:09

hi all

norky the arthritic one can't say my joints click much but my knees do click when I do squats, apparently that is normal, so really not much advice
I love the tights too after holding back from getting a pair for so long

am off to France on Saturday for a week and look forward to running along the beach, that will be new

got my race for life pack today I was told I will get the bug once I start we shall see

happy running all

Norky - where did you get your tights? What is the theory behind them, do they keep you cool?

liath · 30/04/2009 16:15

I am in awe of everyone who did the Marathon on sunday, well done! I was well impressed by Nell McAndrew - not content with being a breast-feeding goddess, she runs the marathon in 3 hrs 10!! Wow!

Norky, I reckon that some clicking is fine so long as your knees aren't painful. I wasn't going to bother with running tights etc until I discovered what thigh chafe entailed.....

I decided to embrace the whole "hills are you friends" philosophy and went offroad to see how far up Arthur's Seat I could get before expiring. Didn't make it to the top, funnily enough!

NorkyButNice · 30/04/2009 17:32

peachsmuggler I bought 2 pairs actually, one from Sweaty Betty that were an enormous 50 quid (but you can get 10% off if you use an MN discount code), and then another cheaper pair from the Nike Store (20 quid or thereabouts).

The Nike ones aren't as compact, but I'm sure they'll do the job (will try them out tomorrow!).

popsycal · 03/05/2009 13:07

did a 4 miler today
really didnt want to go out and for the first two miles i was almost going to turn back...so I forced my self to run away from the house rather than doijng circutis
I followed a 10k podcast i had found - the first week of a 10 week programme
had to do 4 mins run/2 mins walk repetitions
Not sure if it was the best way tbh - but my run pace was able to be a little fatser (around 8:00 to 8:30 min/per) so i suppose it is helping in that respect
the bupa 10k programme starts with a 15 mins/2 mins walk/15 minws run so veryr different
not sure which to folow

popsycal · 03/05/2009 13:08

i bought some £8.99 karrimor tights from sports direct and wore them today for the first time

mileniwmffalcon · 03/05/2009 19:43

i reckon all you folks in tights must be a) brave, b) pert or c) really fast so you don't hang around long enough for people to spot you

i do need spare kit actually, but i'm looking for stealth stuff that could double for normal clothes, i'm far too embarrassed (at my lack of running skillz) to actually look like a runner.

i did my longest ever run today, 50 mins, not quite up to 5 miles/8k but i reckon i might do it next time. i did a fresh route and got out early (just gone 7 ) so there was hardly a soul around and it was just the best feeling, everything clicked, although i did have to pinch myself a couple of times to believe it was me doing it.

i wanted to say a heartfelt thanks to all the people on this thread who bullied cajoaled me into starting, best thing i've done in years

popsycal · 03/05/2009 19:55
Grin
liath · 03/05/2009 20:19

Milen, I had a run like that yesterday - fantastic feeling . Really got into that "flow" that people talk about.

badgermonkey · 03/05/2009 20:30

Can I join in? I've been running about six weeks from absolutely nothing and I suppose I can consider myself a runner now - I've never done more than 4 miles though .

I went out running with DH yesterday. We did a 3 mile run we'd done once before in 30 mins, and managed to come in two minutes slower. He was a bit cross about it so we went out again and I did it in 27.42 - I remember the exact time because it's the fastest I've ever run! Not far off a 9-min mile! I mostly run on the treadmill and I know I don't push myself to run as fast as I could so going with DH is good practice. And I'm very brave, I run in shorts ;)

Anyway, I wanted to ask about Race For Life. There's one coming up in six weeks or so and I'd love to use it as a goal, but I don't know if it's a suitable race if I want to try and run fairly fast (think if I can do 5k-ish in less than 28 minutes now I should definitely be able to shave a few minutes off before then). Or is it a good first-time thing to try?

popsycal · 03/05/2009 20:33

race for life is grreat - though may be fully booked already
i run about a 27 min 5k when i am back intyo it properly
