[Thanks for the good wishes. Yep, unfortunately things are not going too well here, the 6 months of chemo only knocked the cancer into remission for about 4 weeks and it's fighting back hard - so hard that Mr T's not made it into the gym for 2 weeks which is unheard of, even when he was feeling dire, he used to force himself down He started a new chemo regime yesterday as a kind of last ditch effort so we're keeping everything crossed (except when running as we'd fall over...)]

heartofgold · 29/05/2009 09:16

lol @ mozzas paunch, no the only thing i'd heard about him recently is he keeps stopping half way through to complain about the smell of frying meat :D

or gig (superfurryanimals) was fantabulous, although the friends we went with weren't impressed - they hadn't bothered to listen to heard the new album and they just played it start to finish but i think it's a stonking album i've been running to it for the last few weeks, so i had a ball, danced all night. makes a change to be 6 foot from the band instead of on the other side of a field, too, although it turns out my ears would have appreciated me being a bit further back

running 5k at 9:20 this morning with a belly full of lager and beanburger and a head full of cold didn't turn out to be one of my brightest ideas ever either. i'm starting to feel ok again now, but my ankles are a bit complainy. i'm def cutting back my long run on the weekend.

i appear to be a good advert for the benefits of running though, the friends we saw last night are both planning to start the c25k

heartofgold · 29/05/2009 09:17

keeping everything crossed for you too twink.

peachsmuggler · 29/05/2009 09:42

oh bollocks twink that's rotten. Best wishes to your DH and family and of course will keep fingers crossed for you all.

millenniumfalcon · 29/05/2009 09:42

btw enough of the confusing namechanges i'm reverting to this one (mileniwm/mwff/heartofgold etc.)

AitchTwoOh · 29/05/2009 09:49

twink, that's rotten news. keeping hopeful and positive for you. x

OrmIrian · 29/05/2009 11:33

Ah shite twink

HarrogateMum · 29/05/2009 11:35

can I rejoin? Not been on here for ages. Probably as I have not been running for ages...just trying to get back into it for the Jane Tomlinson York 10k in August. Only worked up to 3.5 miles so far but hoping to improve again soon!

Twink - sorry to hear your news, I remember you from the old threads and being full of admiration!

Themasterandmargaritas · 29/05/2009 11:58

Twink, so sorry . Keeping hopeful for you both.

Aitch, your rightful home is here, you are just merely hitching a temporary ride with the others until you get here .

MoshiMoshi · 29/05/2009 13:37

I have just managed my first run in about 3 months! Felt alright actually although I only ran for about half an hour at a very pedestrian pace as it was DD's first run in the P'n'T. It is beautifully sunny here in Wiltshire and we're enjoying half term at my parents' house. Hope the weather is nice where you all are and you can get out to have a run in the sun...

twink - wishing your OH as much good luck in getting over this as possible. I hope you, twink, and your families are coping ok too.

19fran76 · 29/05/2009 14:16

Twink, please accept my best wishes/positive thoughts/prayers for you & your family, sorry to hear your news.

MrsWednesday I moved last summer whilst fairly pregnant (!) & found the big clear out opportunity most cleansing, as suggested earlier. Recommended .

Did five miles earlier today but not very quickly as I was finding it very hot .

Looking to increase my mileage, so have a question for you all. When you go out on a long run what water/other drink do you choose to take? Thanks.

Hey there, HarrogateMum, welcome back .

sfxmum · 29/05/2009 14:20

hello all

Twink that is rotten hope the new thing knocks it back a bit more without knocking mrT too much

I have in laws arriving today for the weekend which is nice but means I will have to set the alarm otherwise will not have a moment for myself and I need to run

lovely day out been to Gardens with dd lots of running around must finish my essay due in a midnight

As you are entering summer we are entering 'winter', read grey skies and quite chilly at about oh 21 degrees . Enjoy the sunshine.

Fran, personally I can't run and carry water at the same time, my hands just get too sweaty .

Welcome back HM . And good luck sfx! I remember those days all too clearly...... what are you studying?

sfxmum · 29/05/2009 17:12

master (always feel like I am addressing Beelzebub) in my old age I want to start my own business so am doing a business thing on the Open University
me the arts and humanities girl

about running with drink, I think if it is not hot it is ok to run for 3 miles without a drink but if it is hot I rather take something with me usually water or diluted juice of it has been a while since last meal/ snack

OP posts:
futurity · 29/05/2009 18:40

sorry to hear that Twink

on the drink front...I take water out if I am running for over an hour normally or if I know in advance it will be especially warm

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 29/05/2009 20:45

I'm sorry about your news Twink. Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts.

19fran76 · 29/05/2009 20:51

Oh good, simple H2O is a winner . This pleases my low rent self. (Do none of you have a sneaking fondness for some flash sports drink then?)

I will shuffle off to plot a new slightly longer route. Fear I may develop sweaty palms .

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/05/2009 11:57

I managed 19.5 k (don't mock the all important .5) this morning in 2 hrs 2mins! I have never run so far in my life. I'm telling you, we as humans are not designed to run so far.

popsycal · 30/05/2009 14:54

just come back from a coninuos 5lk (well it would have been continuous had i not foumnd a barely walking little girl with bare feet and swim suit wandering around alone and had to knock on 3 doors til i found where she belonged

i prob shouldnt have run as i have an horrendous outer ear and middle ear infection. last night at 7ish i though i was abourt to give birth out of my ear - it was worth than chidbirth honrestly

anyway
i forvced myself to slow down to around 9:0 min mile to edencourage me to cutt out my tactical 30 sec half way walk and i did it in under 30 min

OrmIrian · 30/05/2009 17:17

Well done master. And popsycal.

I haven't run since Sunday - haven't really had time for various (genuine) reasons but I probably could have fitted one in. Problem is I am quite enjoying chilling out - I have to rush so much to fit in 3 runs a week in between work, kids, chores, DH's social life . It would be so easy just to relax and let it all go.

sorky · 30/05/2009 20:55

I'm not here yet, but hope to be soon.
2 miles planned tomorrow, if okay will try 3 next week then I'll stop a while

(that's the plan anyway)

Wallace · 31/05/2009 07:29

Sorry to hear, Twink

Wallace · 31/05/2009 07:30

liath (I think it is you?) - Good luck today for the Edinburgh MArathon Team Relay!

kittywise · 31/05/2009 07:55

Sorry to hear that twink, my thoughs are with you

Well I haven't been out for 2 weeks now due to never ending cold. I'm beyond frustrated. God knows how rubbish I'll be whenever my chest clears enough for me to start again. And I'd got up to 8 miles too

sfxmum · 31/05/2009 08:57

hello all

good luck for races I do hope the ones feeling poorly get a chance to run soon

I try to make it a priority to run, mostly because it makes everything much better and me a nicer person but it is not always possible

I managed 3 miles yesterday but limped the last half mile because somehow a huge flap of skin got loose and was rubbing on the back of the shoe, no idea how I did it but hurt like hell

hope everyone is well
