I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Aitch i too was a panting hyperventilating wreck - now my breathing seems to have its own non painful sounding rhythm and my legs get tired before im out of breath now.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 15:38

sounds good. i remain ever-hopeful.

popsycal · 17/05/2009 15:57

just sticking my head in to say I have found the jogtunes podcasts to be good. Better than Rawwwwberrrrt.

Jogtunes Indie podcasts are more my cup of tea than annoying dance music

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 17/05/2009 16:27

Oh but I can't imagine leaving Rawwwwbert behind. Even if I am having problems with his music.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 17:28

o have you a link to jogtunes please

popsycal · 17/05/2009 17:54

if you are on itunes,go into podcasts and search jogtunes and there it is

NorkyButNice · 17/05/2009 20:05

It's my legs that give up first (I do sound like a broken down steam engine as I wheeze along the park though).

W5r1 for me tomorrow - am hoping for decent weather as I'll take any excuse at the moment to duck out. Anyone got some spare motivation lying around?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 21:06

Norky im going to do mine (w5r1) tomorow night also about 6pm weather permitting so motivation wise just imagine me chasing you with an axe or something - more likely singing out of tune

Dilettante · 17/05/2009 21:08

Has anyone tried Podrunner podcasts? I got mine free on iTunes. I like them better than Rawb. They do an interval podcast for training for your first 5k which I find pretty good. I think the music is better, plus, it is done by a proper DJ with approriate BPM on each track to help your breathing and running speed.

Completed W5 R1 today. It went fine, I enjoyed the longer running time and didn't get fatigued. Roll on W5 R2.

Dilettante · 17/05/2009 21:12

Oh yeah, Podrunner is kind of trance-ish music. Maybe you wouldn't like it. It is still better than Rawb's music though.

popsycal · 17/05/2009 21:14

podrunner is better than rawb

there is also a free couch to 5k podcast on itunes by suz or someone

but jogtunes folks
jogtunes

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 21:33

i've looked, pops. how do you know which bpm to choose? and does it cost money?

popsycal · 17/05/2009 21:36

i uswed it viaitunes podcasts so free
i have about 160bpm asnf run sroung 8:30-9:00 min mile

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 21:50

have done it, thanks. although you should know that my dream is to be able to run 5k in the time it takes Sandi Toksvig to host The News Quiz.

popsycal · 17/05/2009 21:55

how long is that

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 21:57

half hour.
i ran/walked 3/3 today five times but on the last three mins i did five mines. iyswim? how come i can do five mins at the end but if i tried to do it at the beginning i'd never make it?

popsycal · 17/05/2009 22:09

yu wil do it
the first mile of my 4 miler tofday was myslowest - takes me a mile to get in my stride

HuffwardlyRudge · 18/05/2009 04:22

I think everyone is way ahead of me but I'll say hello anyway.

I was supposed to do week 2 run 1 this morning but children kept me up all night and I couldn't face it. Will do it this evening or (more likely) tomorrow morning.

I am enjoying it though (despite having to run at 5.30 am ).

NorkyButNice · 18/05/2009 10:34

Welcome HuffwardlyRudge! You are truly dedicated to be out running at 5.30 in the morning (and enjoying it!).

I've just got back from w5r1 - I found the first 5 minutes OK (actually could have kept going quite happily), but then the next 2 were very difficult.

Good luck to everyone who's running later today!

SVioletdidnotwimpoutofweek4 · 18/05/2009 11:11

5.30 in the morning doesn't exist surely [puzzled]? Hello HuffwardlyRudge .

Norky - I'm doing w5r1 later - I almost went out last night (even though yesterday was supposed to be a rest day) but it started raining, so I poured a glass of wine instead . 3x 5 mins should be OK, it's the step up from 2x 8 mins to 1x 20 mins later in the week I'm more concerned about. Anyone further on than week 5 want to share how that goes?

NorkyButNice · 18/05/2009 11:32

It started pelting down with rain halfway through my first 5 minute run, but it was actually quite a nice feeling as it was on my back. Then I had to turn a corner for my next 5 minute run so I had blustery drizzle in my face - not so pleasant!

Not sure how Wednesday's 8 minute runs will go.

TrillianAstra · 18/05/2009 12:52

W5R2 (again) today - running at just over 12 minutes/mile for the second burst of 8 mins. Legs felt good, didn't get the achey ankles thing that I have been getting previous times, so that's good.

Very bored of this music though so might have a listen to jogtunes for my supposedly 20 minute run next time - someone tell me more about it?

Vulgar · 18/05/2009 15:31

i did W5R2 today . . .my lungs feel like they are gonna burst! And my legs really hurt. Am really of the people who are not in pain!

When I am tired I run a bit ploddy and waddle from side to side a bit. Not very attractive.

i'm going to have to repeat R2 on Wednesday as I'm too un fit to attempt 20 mins. Thankfully I really like Rawb's music this week.

Chinwag- you know you said to Aitch that breathing will improve as you go on. Well, mine hasn't yet. Or am I being too impatient? I'm worried that I haven't got the running gene.

Sounds like everyone is doing well and welcome to HuffwardlyRudge.

Dilettante · 18/05/2009 16:17

Vulgar, don't be afraid to run much slower if it facilitates your breathing. You should be running at a level of exertion where you can hold a conversation at the same time as run.

If your lungs are burning or feeling bursting it means you're overdoing it.

I'm finding it a bit tougher this time around and I'm running pretty slowly - felt silly at first but now I just concentrate on not getting puffed and it seems to work well. So what if everyone is always overtaking me...

HuffwardlyRudge · 18/05/2009 17:23

I was motivated and did w2 r1 this evening after all. It was good. Would have enjoyed it if it weren't for a blister the size of a 2p on my heel. New socks are in order I think.

I only run at 5.30am because I live in Dubai and it's getting too hot to run later in the day.

Actually, being so far behind everyone is quite inspiring. If you guys can get to week 5 then so can I. It can be done! You're all doing so well.
