I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Yay - did my run

Made the mistake of not having a snack beforehand and felt rather lightheaded during it but my legs felt like they could have got going for a while.

Will make sure I have enough to eat before running on Saturday

NorkyButNice · 15/05/2009 07:54

Well done LovelyRita! I'm supposed to do w4r3 today but it's cold, grey and rainy out there...

I went swimming yesterday for the first time in years yesterday and my legs are killing me too, I think I used muscles that have been in hiding for years!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 15/05/2009 09:44

I am glad I did it last night - just got soaked on my way back from pre-school (2 min run) and would not have enjoyed running in it.

Dilettante · 15/05/2009 10:58

Hello folks!

Just found this thread. I'm a veteran runner who was forced to stop due to chronic injury a few years ago (Morton's Neuroma) however, after a lot of research I have discovered I can run pain-free with Nike Frees which mimic barefoot running. Bliss! I also have my eye on a pair of Vibram Fivefingers, I don't suppose anyone here has tried them?

However in the ensuing few years I've gained 2 stone and gotten out of shape, so I'm starting slowly back at the very beginning again.

I'm not doing the C25K podcasts as I find the music too irritating but I am following the Runners World beginniners schedule and I'm currently on Week 4 (Run 5 mins, walk 2 mins x 4 intervals).

I have to say it's tough carrying an extra 2 stone and I'm taking it slowly due to the extra strain on the joints (and slowly trying to lose the weight of course). I feel bad at the moment because I'm so slow - I run along the river where all the ultra fit student rowers go and they are always overtaking me massively .

TrillianAstra · 15/05/2009 13:54

Right, should be doing W5R2 (for the Nth time) today but instead a friend is taking me to her posh gym on a guest pass.

I would be doing 2 x 8 mins with a 5 min walk in between.

10 minutes/mile = 6 miles an hour or 9.6 kph
11 min/mile = 5.45 mph or 8.7 kph
12 min/mile = 5 mph or 8 kph

So if I decide to try to do the same thing on the treadmill I know what sort of speed to set it at. Not taking Rawbert as I don't like his music very much.

Rita and Norky - the beginning of week 5 is easy compared to week 4, don't worry about it at all.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 16/05/2009 11:06

Just done W5 R1 and I survived

The timings for the other days seem to fit in with this one if that makes sense - R2 has 8 min run which is R1 first run plus walk, then you walk for R1's second run and run for R1's second walk and third run. R3 you just seem to run a lot [worried ].

The unfair part is that R3 finishes one minute before R1 and R2 so when you are on your last R1 (and R2 I suppose) run and there is one minute left, Rawbert is saying you've finished and you haven't .

Not so keen on the music this week - I rather liked W4's music.

Skimummy · 16/05/2009 11:30

Finished week 2 in the rain last night...was absolutely soaked but really quite enjoyed it! On to week 3!

Very motivating reading about everyone a few weeks ahead. Hopefully I will make it there!

Vulgar · 16/05/2009 12:27

Lovely Rita - I did W5 R1 today too! It wasn't too bad - i really liked the music but I wished I was doing aerobics instead as I much prefer aerobics to running Hopefully that will change when I get better at running.

Shins are hurting a bit and i'm knackered. i guess we must be getting fitter but I don't feel it!

Dilettante - i've seen those Vibram shoes - weird aren't they? I think I would look like Bigfoot if I wore them

TrillianAstra · 16/05/2009 14:31

I didn't do a proper run at the gym, played on the cross-trainer instead. My friend generally does stuff with the weights so she was very impressed at me doing a 20-minute programme on a cardio machine, and I think I have this running thing to thanks for it

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 16/05/2009 19:16

ooooo i just did w4r3 and managed it ok apart from the massive hills (very slight gradient )- good to see you guys are surviving w5 as i look ahead in nervous anticipation! Whats involved in r1?

SVioletdidnotwimpoutofweek4 · 16/05/2009 19:51

I'm back from w4r3 too Nappies, and most oddly, I actually enjoyed it (rather than "I'm doing this because I've made a committment to doing this") - perhaps week 5 might not be as bad as I was expecting....

SVioletdidnotwimpoutofweek4 · 16/05/2009 19:52

(sorry, Nappy not Nappies too many endorphins, and not enough wine )

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 16/05/2009 20:57

R1 has three lots of 5 min runs with 3 minute walks inbetween (and the usual 5 min warm up and cool down)

NorkyButNice · 16/05/2009 21:00

w4r3 done here too! After last time I was doubting myself but managed the 5 minute runs this time, so hopefully w5 won't be too bad.

Well done everyone!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 16/05/2009 21:04

Yay for all the good running we're doing

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 16/05/2009 22:00

Yey arent we good!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 17/05/2009 06:26

Feel a bit sorry I can't go today (it being a work day. Boo)

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 12:27

Im just about to download week 5 for tomorrow night. I am guessign for the run3 thats just 20 mins running i will just listen to my own tunes as i really dont enjoy rawbs songs.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 12:36

i'm on the bupa schedule, week 3 last run is run for 3 mins then walk 1-3mins. i'm to say that i took the 3 minutes walking BUT i did run for five minutes at the end.

tell me about breathing, ladies. i sound like i'm about to die. that's not right, is it?

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 12:38

yes yes, surely ONE of us (not me) has the technical know-how to create a brilliant playlist of beyonce and jackson 5 etc songs that we can download for running. i've searched on the internet but it's all ghastly ambient shite.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 17/05/2009 12:46

There was a thread recently about good running tunes. Will try and find it

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 17/05/2009 12:48

Here it is.

Am doing marking today and for once managing to have a lunch break

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 13:12

cheers, rita. i fear i am v pop by comparison.

Chinwag · 17/05/2009 15:16

Aitch; your breathing will improve, as you work through the weeks.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2009 15:27

hmm, do you promise? i don't want to sound like a hamster has crawled into my throat to die for much longer.
