I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Waynetta, you could have got away with that you know.

I am celeb-a-phobic so don't have a clue

Pennies · 01/01/2009 18:35

Oooh - can I join too please? In fact, I cheated a bit and started yesterday with the first podcast (strange thing that I have about not doing things like this on obvious dates which puts too much pressure on).

lexcat · 01/01/2009 18:37

I read it as one workout for each of your 3 days of each week.
Sorry forgot to say I'm following a slightly different running plan from this book and that how it work in there.

BrownSugaSprinkledOnPumpkinPie · 01/01/2009 18:39

Brilliant, I'm in. I bought jogging pants yesterday and just need some cleats for my runners to stop slipping on the ice, then I'm all set.

sumomum · 01/01/2009 18:41

Ive just downloaded the first podcast, sounds fab. Im raring to go although I have to invest in an industrial strength sports bra first.

Any suggestions on where to buy a realatively cheap sports bra?

Furball · 01/01/2009 19:09

I wear Tescos sports bra - £5 - Bargain!

With regard to footwear, wear the best you can afford. This may sound off putting but it is best to go to a proper running shop (not high street sports type shop) and get your feet looked out for gait etc.

I know it sounds OTT, but it's not, yes you may feel a prat but they do it to everyone so to them it's normal.

starbear · 01/01/2009 19:14

I collect my orthotic insoles next week and I can start running again. Soooo can I join pls? It's the only way forward for me.

starbear · 01/01/2009 19:20

WishItWouldSnow. I know what you mean. What is the point of bargain hunting for clothes when you are will over 2 1/2 stones your normal weight and your tummy sticks out there and your bum out here. I'm in my 40's and have pregnancy weight and middle age spread to get rid of. Does anyone think I can really trim my figure down and not have a strange wobble belly?

kittywise · 01/01/2009 19:33

Hi Giddy, I'll attempt it again with you. I also lost it at three weeks. Fed up with being unfit. It should get easier as the evenings get lighter(eventually!)

UnfortunatelyMe · 01/01/2009 19:36

Well I threw myself out the door and managed a 15 minute walk/jog type motion.
Nice to get out in the fresh air.
I have some Marks and Sparks Sports Bras on ebay.
Not sure I would fancy doing it in daylight. I have 38E norks, and I restrained them with 2 bras, but still they flew

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 01/01/2009 20:33

Right, I am a podcast virgin, and am screwing up somewhere. I go to the page, download the podcast, and then when I try and do anything to it it tells me I'm not authorized to play it.

It's been ages since I added anything to my ipod.....

giddykipper · 01/01/2009 20:50

Ooh lots of people joining in.

starbear I would love to trim my figure down and not have a strange wobble belly. I've never been toned in all my 37 years and I so want to get fit so that I know what it feels ike for once before I die!

Wilbury I have the same problem with timing - DS is 20 months, DP leaves for work at 6:00am so going before he leaves is a no no. Once I'm home from work it's cooking, eating tea, putting DS to bed then I can't go out until my tea has gone down, so I end up going out about 9pm. Not ideal but it does help me sleep.

Last time I tried to do 3 times per week, this time I might just do 2 then I can go once at the weekend so I only have one late night.

WishItWouldSnow · 01/01/2009 21:21

Starbear, I was doing quite well until the summer when it all went pear shaped and I managed to drop from a lumpy 14 to a more toned 12 through exercise. I didn't fret too much about dieting, just didn't go mad in the evening as I felt that I ate quite healthily.

You will tone up, but we need to give a good crack for about 3 months to really see some results I would say.

I am very very wobbly in lots of places.

giddykipper · 01/01/2009 21:36

Well I'm determined to be asleep by 10pm tonight so even if DS keeps me up in the night (he has an ear infection bless him) I should get enough sleep that I have the energy to run tomorrow.

Waving at the new running crew

My neighbour kept up her running and went from a 16 to a 12 reasonably quickly - she went home and did a few sit ups after each run, but not a mad amount! Aiming to do the same!

Hoping that my horrible cold has at last gone and I can do some exercise at last.

Arabica · 02/01/2009 01:43

Hello runners! I have just started a beginner 5km programme and have lots of weight to lose after failing to do any exercise for about a year. Have just treated myself to ginormous Shock Absorber sports bra, size (ahem) 38F. Bought on ebay for £12 new. Of course, I won't be needing it for long, as soon I will be in a size 34 (yeah, right).
I've run a Race for Life before (5km) and would like to do so again later in the year. Am absolutely terrible at running, prone to injury and wheezy, but there's something addictive about it, isn't there?

travellingwilbury · 02/01/2009 15:33

giddykipper you have just blown my excuses out the water . my oh goes at half 6 and gets in at about half 7 - 8 so I was ready with the reasons why I couldn't possibly but if you can go that late I suppose I can to .

Now I just need to go and buy some new shoes which is always good

lexcat · 02/01/2009 18:07

NO excuses please if I'm willing to have ago anyone can. I'm a single mum I work and I'm starting college in a weeks time. Plus I'm over weigh by about 5 stone. Just to finish me off I also have asthma.
But I'm not going to let all that stop me if I can possible help it. I'll give it my best shot to make it up to the 5km.

giddykipper · 02/01/2009 19:41

The best laid plans...

DP has had to take his mum to hospital so I've got to stay in with sleeping baby.

No running for me tonight then by the looks of it.

Wheelybug · 02/01/2009 19:44

Good luck everyone and waves at everyone that remembers me from this thread this time last year (where did that year go). Am currently 30 weeks pregnant so not running but plan to start couch to 5K in the summer again as it was ace. I lost 1.5 stone from Jan - July and was running 10K + by the time I got pg. It felt like such an achievement.

duckyfuzz · 02/01/2009 19:46

no running for me tonight either, DH has gone to ikea to get shelves to tidy up DTs pigsty playroom (can't face going at normal times!!)

saffy202 · 02/01/2009 20:13

Can I join? I started this on Monday and have been out Mon, Wed and tonight. I have never ran in my life and I am a bit rubbish

WishItWouldSnow · 02/01/2009 20:27

Ok, not stalling but going to start on Monday as visiting friends this weekend and want to clear the Xmas chocs. Poor excuses but the real hard work definately has to start this Monday!

Good luck everyone!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/01/2009 23:04

It will be Thirsday when DS starts nursery but will be going out for some power walking pushing a pram through mud before that
