I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Wheelybug were you a complete beginner when you first did c25k?

Wheelybug · 03/01/2009 17:18

Yes a complete beginner Pennies - I hadn't done any exercise for a loooong time but when I had been to the gym I had always liked running on the treadmill. HOwever, a friend who also started it claimed she couldn't run and is now up to the 5K no problem.

Arabica · 03/01/2009 18:53

Anyone been out today? Did R2, W2-4. Just about made it. So unfit.

duckyfuzz · 03/01/2009 19:15

ok no running, but I have been up a steep muddy hill with DTs, so exercise at least. Running will start seriously on Monday...

weathershore · 03/01/2009 19:25

Good luck to you all love my running altough at this time of year tend to stick to the treadmill had a brillant week this week virtually lived at the gym its back to work next week so its back to the healty eating thing says she with a choc biscuit on my plate

cocolepew · 03/01/2009 19:32

Hello can I join?

I started to drag myself around run a few weeks ago. Can do about 2 miles without dying I'm hoping to do the race for life and move somewhere flat.

rachw1 · 03/01/2009 21:39

Hi can I join in too - could do with the motivation

I'm onto w2 r2, on a treadmill (I have dodgy knees that wouldn't survive the concrete outside). I've got about half way through before and given up so am determined to get through this time and actually get to a point where I can 'go for a run' not do a half run half stagger

On the norks front, a combination of a regular sports bra and a Dancez Minimal Bounce bra over the top works well - gives one a bit of a monoboob but better than bouncing around all over the place I used to be a dancer but even when really skinny had norks to contend with so I'm a pro at tying the things down.

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 04/01/2009 09:37

Okay - I went out yesterday and actually enjoyed it . (and it was 0 degrees when I did it too!)

Planning on running Monday and Wednesday too.

Good luck!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 04/01/2009 09:39

Went for a 2.5 mile walk, some of it uphill pushing 2 children and did it quite fast yesterday.

lexcat · 04/01/2009 12:59

Did my second day (w3 r1) and was so much easier then the first day. Wasn't slepping well before christams and was feeling very run down. I have slept like a log since starting on New years day. Knees complaining abit but I'm feeling really good. Back to work on tuesday so am really going to have to start juggling my time but my running will be high on the important list.
Thinking I would like to do the race for life as my goal.

WaynettaSlobisUndergoingARefit · 04/01/2009 17:02

Good work Lexcat - I know, work does tend to get in the way doesn't it!!!

Gorionine · 04/01/2009 17:12

I did Race for life for the last three years but that is all the exercice I get I walk 4/6 miles a day but I would love to start running again. Count me in!

Wolfcub · 04/01/2009 17:23

can I join in? I have been intending to start running for the last two months but things have kept getting in the way I am determined to try and make this work

giddykipper · 04/01/2009 20:14

Yay, I went out and did it.

Took my life into my own hands running in the snow though!

Arabica · 04/01/2009 23:20

Lexcat, I also want to do a race for life this year. Saw your post a day or so ago and have about the same amount to lose.

UnfortunatelyMe · 04/01/2009 23:26

I am awaiting a herd of trainers arriving from littlewoods, went into a shop in town and just felt overwhelmed. Came home ordered some online and hopefully one pair will be good.
That podcast, can i put it on my cheapy MP3 player, if so, how?

Elk · 05/01/2009 13:13

Hi everyone,
I have got a new pair of trainers and have downloaded the podcasts so I can start running. I hope to do my first run on Wed/thur am this week. Dd2 is starting nursery 3 moarnings a week so I now have some free time.

What do you wear to run in the cold weather?
I have yoga trousers and a fleece. Would that work?

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 05/01/2009 15:10

Hi Elk. I have been wearing two layers and one of DH's fleeces so it covers my bum, which gets v.cold otherwise!! Also wear a beanie pulled down over ears and some gloves.

Did my second run of week 1 today, and am planning on doing Run 3 on Wednesday.

Arabica · 05/01/2009 20:50

Lots of layers! Vest, long-sleeved T, sweatshirt, fleece. Furry hat. Sunglasses (in case anyone I know sees me). Yucky lycra trackies from Matalan. Expensive trainers and bra though, it's worth it...

DevilsAdvocaat · 05/01/2009 20:56

i also did this last year with wheely, furball and brambles (i was ladyjogsalot).

i lost 1.5 stones and could jog 4.5k by the end, never did make it to 5k!

it is awesome and really works though.

when i did it last year i was living in london and had no issues running at 7.30pm as there were so many people around. can't imagine doing that where we live now as it is so quiet round here, i think i'd freak out! ironically it's prolly more dangerous joggin in london than here!

ah good luck everyone, stick at it. i went from a 16 to a 12 pretty quickly, it really changed my life.

DevilsAdvocaat · 05/01/2009 20:57

oh i second the idea of getting a decent pair of running trainers after slipping over twice.

lexcat · 05/01/2009 21:41

Just to help us on bad days please could we have some idea of the time it took people to shed the pounds. Plus was running the only thing you did.
Did my third run today still working up to the couch potato day 1 level that's about week two in my book. Feeling great and really please as I wasn't going to run today as I spent the day shopping with dd. But when I got home couldn't wait to get out in the dark and cold to run. Feeling it now as walking round town all day and running is maybe a bit much.

Furball · 06/01/2009 12:17

I started running last January and lost nothing sorry to disappoint, but then I used to think because I had run I could have more.

I started Slimming World in March and very quickly lost 1 1/2 stone by the July - with the running it literally fell off

DevilsAdvocaat · 06/01/2009 12:34

yes i lost 1.5 stones over about 5 months.
i also did weight watchers on and off through that time.

the problem with exercising is that you often over compensate with an after jog snack!

i worked out that i was burning about 200 cals for a 30 min session. that's 4 apples

remember the input/output thing. if you eat what you eat normally and jog you will lose weight, if you add an extra snack and jog, you will stay the same.

you will notice you shape change even if you don't lose weight, my legs slimmed down even though i didn't notice a weight loss at first.

sw and ww are excellent with jogging. with ww you get an exercise chart which tells you how many bonus points you've earned through the exercise you have done. i tried not to use the bonus points as much as poss.

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 06/01/2009 14:21

Thanks for that DA - I was debating whether to sign back up with WW and you have just convinced me....
