I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

amiodette,

i had previously been a member of ww and so just bought meself a big ass diary and counted my points. i wrote my weight each week. that was enough for me.

also, take a week off the ww every now and again. if you're jogging each week it doesn't matter and helps to keep you motivated. in the weeks off (every 1 in 4 or 5) i just ate healthy foods but allowed myself bigger portions.

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 06/01/2009 14:55

Thanks DA - I used to be a member too, of the online one though, - joined after DS1, and have just gone back after a (coughs behind hand) 4 year absence. Brilliantly, they recognised me from my PC and gave me my old user id and all my old recipes .

I really like it for making me think about what I'm putting into my food, Monday to Friday anyway (!), drink vodka rather than wine, and eat loads of veg as they are point free!

I also need to have something to motivate me, while remaining anonymous, so really like the online one.

DevilsAdvocaat · 06/01/2009 18:36

that sounds good amiodette.
you can do it and it's surprisingly easy if you get into a routine. also the couch to 5k thread i was on last time was incredibly supportive and motivational. i remember finishing my first 20 min run and on the way home thinking how i couldn't wait to tell people on here.

i hope this round is as successfull as the last

duckyfuzz · 06/01/2009 18:38

ok I'm here just to say and again, haven't quite got round to it yet, but I will...once I've got over the shock of being back at work and not able to eat and drink waht I want all day...

Arabica · 07/01/2009 11:01

I haven't been out for a couple of days as I get exercise-induced asthma when running when it's cold AND damp. Feel a bit as was counting on this to kickstart my 2009 fitness campaign.

Elk · 07/01/2009 11:48

I have just been out for my first run/walk, even though it was snowing! I actually enjoyed it, but my ears got quite cold.

I also had to make up the run/walk thing as I forgot to turn my mp3 player after downloading the podcast and the battery was flat.

I will go out again at the weekend.

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 07/01/2009 11:54

have just done W1 R3 - am now trying to decide whether to move on to W2, or do another W1 run.......and I can't connect to the piggin website to see whether W2 looks possible....

BrownSuga · 07/01/2009 14:09

I did the First W1 on Monday night. It was freezing, DH was home late, so I tried to put it off. DS started getting whiny, and that made up my mind, it was good motivation. I think I have to wear more clothes though, it was freezing. Had gloves and hat on, long pants and top, but still needed more.

Yesterday I bought cleats for my runners, just as well, we had snow last night and more expected today. It's -10C out there right now. (I'm in Montreal btw)

Thanks GiddyK for the links, the podcast is great, like having a personal trainer with you, but one that isn't annoying

Tonight I'll take my 2nd W1, I'm looking forward to it.

rolandbrowning · 07/01/2009 16:24

Hi can i join? I was up to the 7th week of cp to 5k before christmas, then I got a cold and stopped. I am scared of running in the snow in case I fall over! In the past I have done a couple of races for life, and I am going to enter the great manchester run which is a 10k in May. Scary!

Nice to see this thread as I'm not good enough for the proper running thread yet.

giddykipper · 07/01/2009 19:36

Meant to be out for run 2 tonight, it's just so cold and dark though.

BrownSuga · 08/01/2009 13:54

W1 R2 last night. Just a small tip for anyone interested, if you're running in a snowstorm, best to wear goggles

It was fine on the outbound half, but on the inbound I was running into the wind and had to squint my eyes against the snow. When I got home, my eyelashes were all iced up!

rolandbrowning · 08/01/2009 14:01

Just realised how my post sounds. I meant "I'm not good enough for the proper running thread" as a joke
Anyway I've just entered the Great Manchester Run so I'd better get going with the training.

BrownSuga · 08/01/2009 20:15

Did anyone else go last night, or have been tonight? How did you get on?

Don't give up even though it's cold and dark.

sumomum · 08/01/2009 20:25

I'm just back from my first run! Feel very proud of myself although I found it very difficult. Think I may need to extend week one however, as my fitness levels are awful .

The podcast was fab, would highly recommend, it helped to cover the sound of me wheezing like an old horse for the duration of the run!

How is everyone else doing?

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 09/01/2009 13:28

Well done sumomum!

I have done W2 Run 1 and I have to say I wanted to lie down half way through, but I managed to fight my way through it and felt great at the end of it. Am thinking that I might need to make my own podcast though as I don't really fancy Robert's taste in music....

policywonk · 09/01/2009 13:41

Oh can I join please. I've done 2 out of the 3 Week 1 run/walk combos (feel a bit embarrassed calling it 'a run' when I'm only running for 8 out of the 20 minutes - feel like a fraud!)

Does anyone have any canny suggestions for timing the 60/90 second bursts when you're running in the dark? My watch and stopwatch aren't back-lit so I can't see them - I end up counting (badly) and getting confused.

BrownSuga · 09/01/2009 17:50

well done everyone.

Policy, i'd just run until I'm about to get short of breath, then walk until I'm recovered, then run again. No need for timing it, let your body tell you.

Furball · 09/01/2009 18:13

policywonk - get a cheapy mp3 player and down load the podcasts in the link on the op

policywonk · 09/01/2009 18:50

Thank you both I'll try both suggestions and see how I get on!

Roll on spring (and being able to see your hand in front of your face after 5pm).

foxinsocks · 09/01/2009 18:52

I am a total veteran of week 1/2 but never get any further. Must have done it about 10 times . Think I have almost accepted I am not a runner.

foxinsocks · 09/01/2009 18:53

or perhaps more accurately, I am a couch potato

policywonk · 09/01/2009 19:01

What happens at the end of Wk 2 to put you off, foxy?

foxinsocks · 09/01/2009 19:02

I don't know actually

I've never been very good at running though, not even as a child. I can sprint 100m, have hardly ever had to run any further than that lol.

I always bunked off cross country

foxinsocks · 09/01/2009 19:29

if anyone does the whole thing (who has never run that distance before) and it works (i.e. you can run 5km), I'd love to hear about it

map my run
is very good for plotting your runs as you can see how far you are going (if you click on the hybrid maps, you can even plot over parks etc.)

policywonk · 09/01/2009 20:25

hmmm I'm a bit like that - not bad in short bursts but never had a lot of stamina.

However, I'm wasting money at the gym at the moment because I don't have the time to get there, so I really need something I can do. Something that's both free and time-efficient.

Thanks for that link, I'll have a look! I'm running up and down the local streets trying to avoid fellow school mums.
